Blackbox FX for iOS, free for a limited in iTunes, you guys should grab it while it's free. It's like DailyRoads Voyager with cyclic recording/looping, g-force detection, etc...

Yeah, guess I'll be waiting for a blackbox type go pro quality before considering spending money on an upgrade myself :)

Aye, they're too expensive in their current form anyway, i bought mine as a helmet cam primarily. Picked up a dash mount just for the hell of it!

Yeah GoPro are the ones used in action sports/helmet cams. The Drift HD170 is the same deal, i have it strapped to my helmet on the bike.

There's one similar to the GoPro with GPS, but i doubt it has loop back functionality. You'd just have to have a 32GB card, which would get a fair few 720p hours worth.

Have you heard of this one -ContourGPS

Looks the part just wondering is it any good.

Had a bit of craic yesterday.

Basically a truck saw me and pulled out in front of me so I gave the obligitory make it difficult for him (I really don't like truck drivers) There's a wee thud as I drive around him which is him punching the back of my car. He wasn't quite expecting what he got when I stepped out of the car raring to go.

He eventually backed down and apologised as did I. :D

I'm generally NOT the type of person who enjoys conflict but punching the back of my car? Seriously? Is he 6 ??

I didn't get my mount:mad: Still in the post.

Might just tape it to the dash! I'll post up a video of the quality later on. I don't know if the super wide angle lens on mine is a good thing or not for a driving camera...

Haven't gone throught this whole thread, but this might be a cheap option:

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Mini-HD-DV-key-chain-Camera-Recorder-DVR-Video-1280x720/160546966106?ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1&category=48634&cmd=ViewItem

Coupled with a decent size sd card, it will go for 40 minutes on a charge or 2 hours+ pluged into the cig lighter.

( ^^^^ Not me) But I do own one, and it works a treat.

I may have this wrong, but the truck pulled out when he had an opertunity, I.e the car in front turning. It looks like you then accelerated hard right up to the truck for some reason....

    Looked pointlessly aggressive IMO.

You didn't make it easy for the truck driver there. He had already started pulling out while you were behind the car. Looks like you sped up a little too and then didn't leave enough of room. Share the road - those small rigids are not the easiest to manouvre.

Punched the back of your car ?
You mean you clipped him when forcing your way past him ?

For the record I do agree he pulled out in front of you but the rest was all you being a dick. If YOU hit HIM whilst forcing your way past that was your fault

i actually have one myself, here's mine (the 720p one) tested on the cabra road.

(the video wobble is from my Pajero vibrating, not a problem with the cam) :)

they're a great little yoke (and very little), but not ideal really for a permanent dash cam imho, but good for a bit of craic. :D

Facts, his fist impacted the nearside panel of my car. I did not touch the truck. I had already started accelerating when he began his turn. Factually he crossed my path. Was I an ass by extending my stoppage time and pinning him? Absolutely! I already addressed that point in the OP. :)

Wait. How did his fist reach your car ? You were passing the end of the truck when the thud is heard. Did he hop out, run after you and whack your car as you were driving away ?

    Immature stuff tbh.

Intentionally speeding up towards a truck pulling out? Grow up and let the grudge pass, no room on the roads for that crap.

    Don't know if he's 6, are you?

What did any of that achieve?

If he was of a mind he could have pulled the side of the truck against your car, oops. Now how that'd be settled in the end, who knows, because it looks like there was two of ye in it. But it would certainly put you out in the first instance getting the car fixed.

As for "the obligatory" that's definitely very 6.

Give the vein in your forehead a rest next time :p

as a contrast, this is my HTC Desire HD recording via Autoguard Blackbox.

I split the video between day, dusk and night (splits around the 1 and 2 mins mark) to give you an idea of what sort of quality you'll get depending on what time of day it is.

don't bother with 1080p, the original was 720p, so it won't improve the quality, i just overdid the quality settings a little in live movie maker. :D

the developer of the android app above is regularly updating the app (there's a free 'limited' version as well as a pro one if you want to try it out) and usually if someone suggests a useful feature he'll incorporate it into the app whenever he has a chance, so if there's something good that's missing from it, just let him know and you could end up getting your own feature included in it. :)

Whats it like on battery? I remember using "DailyRoads" a similar app and in 720p mode the phone would discharge even while plugged in it was so hard on battery because of the GPS / 720p recording.

My dad is looking for a dash cam too so Im looking at ordering two, I'm a big android fan but I know for a fact that the first time something worth recording happens the phone will be in my pocket or in the centre console

What were you driving ? If it was a car there was no way this is possible - can't you see the length of the truck - much longer than any car ? The noise came when your front axle was past the end of the truck.

You hit the truck. No other possiblity.

Waaaayyyy better quality than mine. The other night some guy did something erratic at a junction. I couldn't remember just after if he had indicated or not, so when I got home I reviewed the video. The lights were so glared/flared on the video I still couldn't tell if he had indicated or not

    Grrrrr

interesting note on their website that says:

Am I missing something here? How was that a setup? The Golf braked hard to take the late exit, forcing the Merc to brake hard too. Truck hit the Merc.
Truck didn't have enough time to stop safely.

i think the point was, both the merc and the golf were in it together.

if the merc had just jammed on the anchors for no reason and let the lorry hit him, then it would have been his own fault.

by having an accomplice as the cause for you stop suddenly which then leads to someone else hitting you, if you get away with it, it's not your fault and there's a good chance of getting a payout.
