The paint bucket absorbed a lot of the energy. Very lucky indeed.

The car and bus casually just drove away after the accident?? LOL

The car driver has probably gone to get the paint off before it dries. :)

That happens here all the time except the paint is a new one..

I just can't understand why anyone would run, walk whatever onto a road and behind or in front of a large vehicle without looking or even listening.

It's quite shocking stuff I have seen for real not on video and it is different been there believe me.

I really wish I could see the previous five minutes, and the five minutes afterwards.

What's in Baldonnel? Do all new cars have to go there first before being distributed?

No, they don't. They just provide a service for a few of the Distributors. Storage/PDI/Transportation etc.

They operate out of Rosslare too. Possibly Cork as well.

Yeah, there is a huge depot in Ringaskiddy beside Pfizer. The cars come in from overseas covered in a special grease to protect them from salt water. They are brought to a yard that has 10 car wash bays and washed and then sent out to the dealers.

Thanks folks, just wasn't sure why it was assumed it came from there. I guess if most vehicles pass through there, chances are high though :)

Wasn't sure what the driver in front was doing - but it was the two that skated down the outside into the left filter lane then swung right around the traffic island that I was referring to.

So it might not made that much difference but if it was me I wouldn't be standing around recording the crashes, it may have been feeble but they could have ran up the road and tried to warn oncoming drivers in advance, at least I could say to myself I tried to help.

1 person killed, I'm surprised it wasn't more.

In all honesty he'll probably save more lives with a viral video than he would have done trying to warn people. If you can't see you slow to the speed at which you can stop in the current visibility. Hopefully some people will be reminded.

I very much doubt if he would have been seen let alone take any notice of. How many people take note of huge signs saying:

    SLOW DOWN
    40MPH
    ACCIDENT AHEAD

    Very, very few.

During the building of the M6 to Athlone, there was for a period of time a GIANT VMS sign in Kilbeggan with DUBLIN in flashing 1 metre tall letters on it to alert drivers that another section of motorway was open. The number of drivers who didn't see it was frightening.

Several times the car in front sailed past the sign, only to reappear behind me later on.

People don't trust signs because obsolete signs and messages aren't deleted or removed. I can't ever remember a time I seen a message on those giant signs that wasn't old. I think we have far too many signs in general.

Left lane for turning left, not for this driver though.

On another note is there a better way to upload/edit videos other than movie maker ? It makes the video real jumpy and it's not like that watching the original

Undertaking on a bend, the car cuts in a lot closer than it looks in the video as its set to wide angle.
Must have been in a hurry

I disagree, though intially I though same as yourself. It's 100% up to drivers to maintain appropriate speed and distance. So even if you do get a few cars / trucks to stop, if there is more coming behind at incorrect speed and distance the whole things starts again and you are in danger, because some people have "reasons" to drive unsafely.
I think the selfless thing would be to help people before any vehicle fires started.

I go into that retail park regularly and that's quite common. Even the turn right as well. Too many muppets.

    Have you tried Registrator Viewer?
When I put the SD card into my PC card reader and run this program it automatically loads all the clips. You can select clips to cut and save and exclude sound if you want or save clips at faster than normal speed if that's useful. And it's free. :D

The speed the trucks are moving at in low visibility and ice is scary. Surprised at truck drivers most of whom would have a lot of miles under their belt and have probably seen it all.

This reminds me of some of the terrible Irish motorway driving in fog. Cars lured into a false sense of security because they can see the rear lights of the car in front but have no chance of stopping if the motorway is blocked.

That and the roundabout at Liffey valley seem to bring all the muppets out in force
