My G1W-C dashcam arrived a few days ago from China. Pretty daycent piece of kit.

What made me finally buy one was some van almost t-boning my car after he ran a red light in Cork city centre at fairly high speed. Although I guess that wouldn't have been picked up on the cam. My brains would have been picked OFF the cam probably.

Do you guys leave sound recording on? I turned it off to reduce video size, but is there any advantage to having it on other than listening to yourself coughing and spluttering in the car?

Sound it worth it IMHO, depending on how 'Air Crash Investigation' you want to get will depend on what it can be used for, but one obvious example would be indicators.

If an incident happened and someone suggested you were talking on your phone, also hearing if the horn was pressed.

I thought that I had recorded a car overtaking while a lorry was coming the other way and getting back to the left at the very last second!
Got home and tried to download, found that it hadn't saved

The save button has no feedback, I wish it had!!! :o

32 gig, the problem was that I didn't press the save button hard enough..:o

Anyway here's a bit of fun from the random videos thread.

Phone, indicator noise... OK. Good idea to leave the sound on. Why would the horn matter?

To show that you did everything in your power to alert another driver to an incident that was unfolding, showing lack of attention by the other driver.

E.g. car reversing into you, car changing lanes into you, someone running out in front of you.

It may not seem like much but in an accident the more proof you did everything to avoid the accident the better, especially in stuff that seems 50/50 and is more 75/25 because you tried to avoid the accident but the other driver was unaware.

You have to love insurance companies

also, if you witnessed something it would be a good idea to call out the reg in case the camera didn't get it clearly enough

I'm using the trancend drivepro and recording in one minute clips as the longer videos crash on my laptop during playback for some reason. Just wondering would there be any issues if an incident occurred at the end of one clip and the start of another? Or would you need unbroken footage for insurance companies/gardai to use if needed?

Anything that can have holes poked in it will have holes poked in it if it comes to that. It's very difficult to say whether it would be fatal to the evidence. In all honesty you have to consider the various other factors, such as the other party merely seeing the dash-cam and perhaps not taking the micky on that basis alone.

There's a thread on dash cams over in Legal Discussions you might want to hijack - it's run it's course on defamation. You should get a full answer over there.

    Holy fcuk.
Catapulted into the air, I wanted to thank the video but I think it may be inappropriate considering the driver was killed.
    Speed and lack of seatbelt.

There's either two people or one person and a dog in that car or something entirely more gruesome at the end.

The two passengers survived. One was unharmed and the other suffered minor injuries.

Those that survived were lucky as well as the car caught fire once it had stopped.

That's a snuff movie, lads. There's no place for it on such a forum.

Dashcam certainly didn't save his ass.

The final moments of a car crash that resulted in a talented South African actor and musician being flung to his death were captured on video.

Thabang Sidloyi, best known for his staring role in the Irish/South African feature film The Good Man, was a passenger in his car which was being driven by a friend when it smashed into a wall on the N2.

Just a FYI on a dashcam I was watching on a price watch site. The DR550GW has dropped £30 in a week. I get the notifications sent to me from camel x3. The price now is £230. It's a fairly good camera with front and rear view dvr. Although I settled for the 0801 :).

Not really, a snuff movie is where the death was deliberate, rather than as a result of a crash.

The message from that video is seatbelts save lives

An oldie but still dramatic, very similar to some of the crashes on the Irish motorways.

You think the road is clear then all of a sudden traffic jam!

Listen to the car radio!
