That was kinda my point, with exception that driver doesn't need to be politician at all.
    It could have been anybody.
Pedestrian stepped right in front of car driving at speed. This is prohibited, therefore it's pedestrians fault, and he might be sued to pay for damages to the vehicle.

But even if a politician with immunity drives drunk and kills someone on the road / zebra cross he / she still be not responsible, believe me, that is the law in that country

and if he was not a politician a simple bribe will do the job, happens all the time and the court case is usually dismissed due to lack of evidence...even when cctv is provided...

outside a school near 8pm on a Friday evening hahahahaha, not too many junior infants gonna be comin out of there

The local school near me runs after school clubs most evenings as well as being a community centre, adults as well as kids coming and going most nights. It's a school, slowing down for the couple of seconds while passing it, shouldn't be too much of an ask.

As for one poster 'blaming' someone driving to the posted limits for others infringements, well that's just beggars belief; we are all responsible for our own actions.

    Nothing happens at this school.

I take this road everyday, it's 300m from my house.

While I'm not a law-abiding driver (I usually go through this road at 70kph), what this man is doing is by my book dangerous driving (and that's a lot, coming from me) Overtaking on the white line is meh, because it wasn't a solid white line until like 2011 before the department of defence was ready and I haven't seen a single child walking out of it. It's for children with special needs by the looks of it.

Going through THESE lights on red IS very stupid indeed. When coming from the other way, I always slow down to 40-45 because a lot of people cross this road from Energie fitness etc. and they don't expect anything. I had to emergency brake once, because a woman didn't look to see if a car is coming.

I hope you are joking.
As the appropriate speed in a built up area is the posted speed limit .

No one has the freedom to exceed the limit. Not unless they are exempt from the law.

I'll disagree on this one. Everyone knows why.

I can see why people would have a problem with this, but I would gather the truck driver was not familiar with the area and had taken a wrong turn, it looks like a residential area so probably the least worst option to get back on the right route, last thing you want is a truck going further into tighter streets or reversing down a residential street that may have kids playing that he will not be able to see.
Still, I don't know the area so maybe he could have continued on and found a safer way to double back?

In fairness to him he judged his manouvere very well and carried it out without causing any disruption to the other road users.

Driving west on the M6 Friday I overtook a bus and started to move into the left lane when I noticed an oncoming car on the other side of the dual carriageway flashing his lights. A few seconds later I meet a car coming in the wrong direction on the M6 in the overtaking lane

You can see from Exit 5 sign that they must have driven 2km down the wrong side. There are two cars pulled in just after the exit and another pulls in as I pass possibly to phone the Gardaí.

You should forward that video to the gardaí
    http://www.rte.ie/news/2014/0523/619329-collision/
Gardaí are investigating a four car collision on the M6 motorway this evening.
It is understood a car may have been travelling in the wrong direction on the Dublin to Galway road prior to the crash.
Three people were taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries.
Gardaí have appealed for anyone with information to contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

What I don't understand is why didn't they just cross over to the hard shoulder to stop, the road looks fairly busy but quiet enough to cross over and stop.

Thats 2 points and 80 euro fine. Lets just hope they had no NCT so they can get 5 points, fine and a court appearance. Ridiculous country!

The penalty for driving on the wrong side of a motorway is usually death, they (and the other driver) were lucky to survive.

That car looks quite modern so chances are that it was a hire car driven by foreigners.

That is dangerous driving, clearly. It won't be 2 points and 80 euro fine.

Judging by road position they knew they were doing it

They should do it on the other side, carrying on on a hard shoulder would be much "safer". Has to be shock for drivers to see something like this on their path.

Or, had become aware and were not sure how to proceed.

Other examples I've seen where the offender flies blissfully unaware down the motorway in all innocence. Otherwise they are death riders or escaping criminals who drive much more aggressively and deliberately.

Oh yes they can! If they joined the motorway when the junction was empty, as in no one was exiting at the time and they didn't understand those old Irish " no straight ahead" ahead signs and ignored the "cas aris" & " turn back" signs, then yes it happens...

    and did

Agreed but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that's a tourist car, it's very new and a car hire companies are using.
