There is 2 places that do them in Waterford. Both Italian chippers. They are supposed to be disgusting!! Better off sticking with the batter sausage!!:D

How did anyone ever come up with the idea of deep frying a Mars Bar? One thing is certain though, it must have been some session beforehand.

It was invented in Scotland as a way to increase their fat storage for insulation.

Fusciardis on Capel Street do them. Keep threatening to try one but terrified I'd have a heart attack afterwards.
With regard to where they came from, this is the same country that gave us haggis, need we say more?

Sure that stress will give you a coronary anyway, may as well enjoy the bar at least.

One of the nicest things I've ever eaten, don't knock it 'til you've tried it.

Yeah, i saw them available in Carrick on Shannon last time i was there, about a year ago.
In Flynns Fast Food, across from Dunnes pub. Never tried them though.

Was up there on a stag night a few years ago and asked for a battered mars bar...they had no mars bars so they did a battered snickers for me...ferkin lovely (along with taco chips and a burger...and about twenteen pints)

Lino's in Mullingar used to do them, don't know if they still do.

Best thing deep fried is a Chimichanga!

First they came for the socialists...

Use some initiative. Bring a Mars Bar in to your local chipper, ask if they'll batter & deep fry & for how much? If they don't go elsewhere. Chippers aren't likely to turn down easy business or concern themselves with your health.

I can imagine the response when I walk into a northside chipper, throw a chocolate bar across the counter and ask yer man to batter it........

Also, would it be battered in the same batter as the fish ? and in the same fish n chips oil ? I'd be tempted if I knew it was in a separate batter and fryer...

Lingi's in Mullingar not sure if they still do them.

No they are not concerned for your health for sure but anyway you don't see them for sale very often, they could well say yes but I have a feeling it would be a no because [according to Maria who runs my local chipper] its not worth ruining the oil over something that isn't that popular or profitable.

I've only had a bit of one once in my younger years and it was just like a chocolate doughnut but with the characteristics of a battered sausage except more absorbent (eew). Was a pound before probably double now. :)

They're nice enough but the texture is odd. Bull and Castle at Christchurch do them.

the Chinese do have fried ice cream on menus so I'd say someone seen that and said I'll try my favourite bar, which they liked even more fried

Surely there's nowhere near 1000kcal in one!?

932 calories in one to be exact. And after all the hype I tried one 2 years ago, absolutley vile (though this may have been due to the chipper I got it in frying all sorts of **** in the same oil).

Even worse though is a "Snickers Cake" - 1250 cal per slice. And over 100 grams of fat.

Solid lard, heated to a temperature where it will cook your food through... then we allow it to cool and solidify again.

Of course, your food has absorbed loads and it is currently solidifying on your arse.

Deep fried Mars.... hmmm, think i shall pass.

The chipper on faussagh avenue Cabra does them.

That's the thing, you'd need to have a dedicated "sweet" fryer specific to it, or youre wasting your time. Cross over of flavours. One portion of onion rings in there and it's

You people used to laugh at these ideas, "Only in America" you all giggled.

And now look at you. You'd deep fry an apple pie in chocolate sauce at this point!

Apple pie and chocolate?????!!! That's worst than incest to be honest.

No my friend, my latest discovery is that sausages deep fried with a splash of heineken or 2 are food for the gods. Do not ask how I stumbled across it because I was extremely stoned.

That fried ice cream is actually lovely. Some girl made it for me once and I thought she just didn't like me very much or something but it really works.

I can't say I've ever noticed a difference to be honest??? They taste exactly the same as they did when I was 5.

They're not exactly the most difficult thing to cook yourself

Deep fried pizza is way nicer though.. and at least twice as deadly
Intriguing...how does this work exactly? Battered? Deep fried from frozen? Please elaborate.
