Are you thinking of proposing to that someone special this Valentine’s Day? We’re talking to all the ladies here too...it is a leap year after all!

    188730.jpg

If so, we have a fantastic competition where you could win an overnight stay at the ultimate romantic proposal venue – the 18th century Westport House in Co. Mayo, which will be exclusively yours for one night! This really is a money can’t buy prize as usually they do not allow overnight stays in this historic tourist attraction.

You will go back in time and experience life as Lord and Lady of the manor and also enjoy a delicious banquet for two.

    188731.jpg

Westport House enjoys a superb parkland setting with lake, terraces, wonderful gardens and magnificent views overlooking Clew Bay, the Atlantic Ocean, Achill, Clare Island and Ireland’s holy mountain Croagh Patrick...so there are plenty of romantic places to propose!

To enter, simply tell us in 50 words or less how you met the man/woman of your dreams...

Anyone who wants to keep their story private can email their response to marketing@westporthouse.ie, but you must post on this thread first and include your post number (which you'll see on the top right of every individual post) so we can link it back to a member (we'll keep the details of your story private).

Without ever speaking to me, he stopped me when we were out with mutual friends as I was about to leave a bar and said 'Where are you going, you're great craic' to which I replied 'You've never even spoken to me'! Probably not the last of the great romantics but as they say the rest is history!

This guy should win seeing as he had the idea first :)

Met on Boards, but seeing as we're well into the wedding planning stage, I think the prize would be a bit wasted on us.

My nearest and dearest is the sibling of a friend from university; turns out we both had secret crushes on each other forever, but were both too afraid to make a move. One night, after plenty of Dutch Courage, we finally got together and have been (mostly!) happy ever after!

She came in as a sub teacher. I saw her being shown the catering area and thought to myself "I'll have a bit of that". And 16 years later we're still together. Not civil partnershipped yet - maybe we're just waiting for the right venue ;)

Group of friends meeting in Hotel. Sitting opposite my now wife of 20 years I swapped places with a friend so I could sit beside her and chat her up . Spooky but true. Her mother had nearly married my uncle but split up 2 weeks before their wedding.

Met my wife at her 21st birthday. I was invited through a friend of a friend. I wasnt going to goto the party but circumstances that cannot be explained in less then 50 words led to us getting together, getting married and having two lovely children.

I am very sad to say
I'm still waiting for that day
But heres hoping that as this is a leap year
From some nice woman I will soon hear

I was wearing a T-Shirt I made myself that said "I'm not good in bed" on the front.. She came up to ask me about it so I turned around, on the back it said "I'm F***ing brilliant", 8 years later, married and our first child on the way...

I loved that T-shirt, tis gone now.. We where moving house and I'd two black bags in my car.. One with clothes to keep, and one with clothes for charity.. I gave the wrong back to charity!! By the time I realised it was too late.. Still, hopefully whoever has it now is having as much fun with it as I did...

We got engaged at Christmas but I'll go down on one knee again for a photoshoot if it'd give us a break from the wedding planning... still looking for a venue too btw ;)

We met when she asked me for a light in the smoking section of Bruxelles.

We met nearly 15 years ago in an Irish Pub in my home town Leipzig in Germany. My English was so la-la and his German minimalistic!!! Talked with hand and feet until the early morning hours. One week later I confronted him with my 2 Teenagers (Son than 13 and daughter than 11 years old). Still not put off, he called and waited patiently for me. So I gave him a chance. We did live in Germany for 6 years together. But he was so homesick! We decided to move to Ireland. Bought a side here and started to build our dream home in 2001. I was still in Germany and we could only talk over the phone. A very long year passed and at the end of 2002, I packed all my stuff up and moved with my daughter to Ireland. Son was studying in Germany and followed 5 years later. We are still together. Now it is only the two of us, after the kids left the nest. Going through a lot of financial trouble at the moment, but this makes us only stronger. Awaiting our first grandchild in 2 weeks time. Can`t wait!
I would like to propose to my love! Love him from the bottom of my heart!

Hubby and I met outside a night club and instantly clicked due to our mutual love of a certain singer. Honeymooned in Westport (married in August 2011) and would relish the chance to return for our 1st anniversary :)

We first met at tag rugby, so brief introductions and handshakes. I saw her, but im not so sure she saw me - although she claims to the contrary.

We remained friends for a year and a half before we started to text, talk and meet up outside of tag rugby.

I treat our first date as the first time we met each other romantically. It was a simple meal over burgers and fries, but we stayed talking to each other for a good 5 hours until we were told to leave as the restaurant was closing.

I was due to move to London 3 weeks later, but there was a bond there and we couldnt stop talking to each other, so stayed with each other from that date, through my year in London even until today, where we are planning on moving in together.

met on the first day of college on the library tour, were best friends first, then things got strange when we tried to get each other drunk so we could kiss each other. Finally had to admit to each other that we liked each other as more then friends. it took a while but finally came out to family and friends and haven't looked back since!!

We met in a chat room online nearly 7 years ago, had a bit of a fling but nothing serious(being young and scared and silly), kept an eye on each other over the years but never met up, decided to meet up last valentines day and realised we were still mad about each other and we officially got together and plan on staying together!:):o

I met the man of my dreams at a music festival! I was walking through the crowds on my own when I heard someone shout my name, it was a friend of my sisters and when I went over to say hello he was with her group and I instantly fancied him! We kissed that night and haven't looked back since, it's love :)

She walked into my old work to fix her phone (that she didn't even buy there). I had to do up a fake receipt from our store just so I could send the phone for repair and keep talking.

She said I was being very nice, I said it was because I wanted her number, she gave it to me and told me to give her a call. I did and here we are 7 years later.
