Looking for suggestions for a small hatchback with a boot big enough to fit a set of golf clubs and a trolley.

By "fit", I mean without taking out any of the clubs from the bag to squeeze them in.

1.4 to 1.6 and no, not a golf or focus. Thanks...

You've heard of the Octavia right?

Sure have, I'm in the boot of one right now :D

Can't find many 1.6, would that size car in 1.4 be fairly weak?

    ^^^^

What he said. Probably the biggest hatch boot in its class. The boot will take 3 bags and three trolleys but you need to take the woods out of one bag...

It's brutal. And stock suspension means it corners like a boat too.

Yeah, 1.4 won't be too nippy. 1.6 or TDI the way to go. How much have you to spend?

I wouldn't do it to myself. Twould be pointless fitting all that stuff in the boot if you to take it out everytime you came to a hill!

You're going to be very disappointed with the octavia. Are running costs and important consideration?

    Sell the 325 privately.

    Go to the UK

    Or keep the 325

The Civic hatchback has a very spacious boot and is very deep with easy access.

Unfortunately it's all about the cash these days. Wouldn't be fussy on looks

I don't mean stay over there!

If youre considering a 1.6 Octavia, the place is littered with them.

    Volvo v50 perhaps?

Best way to save money is keep your six grand and enjoy the 325. If you're considering an Octavia get a diesel one. Much nicer to drive and a lot more economical than either of the Petrols.

Yes, the 2006-2012 model (new model just being released). My wife has one and it holds a huge amount of stuff. There's a 'hidden' compartment below the floor of the boot as well.

I thought a BMW (being so prestigious, like) would've easily fit the bag, clubs, trolley and your manservant/valet/caddy in the boot! I do know a serious golfer who bought a Mazda 6 recently, but apparently that's a banning offence at any prestigious country clubs.

But seriously, you'd die of boredom with a 75bhp Octavia after a 325.

    v50 added, thanks

Have had it for 2 years now, not enjoying the tax, petrol and repair bills...

Yes, I'm going to test drive some 1.9 tdis this week

You thought wrong. Yes, only octavia being considered is the 1.9

It's got a full history which is a plus, mileage is nothing too bad either but it's pretty low spec, although most of the basics are covered.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

I feel an epic waste of money coming up. What's your annual mileage, OP? If it is very high and your budget for variable costs is really low it would be the only reason I could see for downgrading your 6-pot BMW lion all the way down to an Octavia diesel war mileage horse

    Probably <10000m - 325i becomes a 1.9tdi 'saving' money. The usual
