Batch Bread...

What's the point in batch bread?

I hate when it's brought home over a long pan. Its not soft, the crudt is chewy, you can't butter it without it falling apart, breaks when you bend it, stuff falls out of the sandwiches, doesn't fit into the toaster properly, and when you do toast it it goes like a prawn cracker and cracks when you butter it.

Anyone prefer it over other breads?

On iPhone so can't put up a poll, maybe a admin can.

I only eat wholemeal or soda bread. But i do like a fried egg on toasted batch.

HAve to say im a fan of it, toasted with poached eggs!! Cant beat brennans tho!

I like my toast mid warm to cold. For the perfect slice of toast take -


- 1 slice of batch bread

- Trim slice to fit toaster or alternatively grill slice under the grill.

- Let the slice cool for 1 or 2 minutes to a reasonably cool level.

- Butter slice with butter. A knife usually achieves the best result. And that's real butter I'm talking about, not just any kind of spread.

- Make sure slice is covered evenly and there are no dry areas on bread. That's not to say the slice should be smothered in butter, but there should certainly not be any dry areas visible.

- Eat from a plate with 1 hand. The plate size should be relevant to the slice of bread.

- Slice may be cut, but only in a triangular fashion.

Batch bread is very nice when it's fresh, that is one thing I like about about Ireland, and I miss batch bread now I am over in Germany!

Cut of the heel, scoop out the white bread inside so all you have left is a hollow batch loaf.

Then fill it with whatever unhealthy stuff you can find. I recommend custard, butter, bacon, sausage meat, king crisps, broken up crunchie and dime bars, bounty bar, roasted peanuts, ham, maltesers, beans and BBQ sauce. Pack it all in so it's well wedged in there.

Pop in an oven at low heat for about an hr. then take out and leave to cool down. Then slice that bad boy up and enjoy with a few leaves of lettuce and a pickle.

Oh and I forgot oatmeal. It helps to bind the innards!!

Its the king of breads. Nothing like it of a Sunday morning with the eggs and the sausages and the tay...

I Could eat it for days on end, particularly when I'm hungover.
