217 sitting in Kent station in cork in the siding by platform 1 and 2. There was two Dublin trains arrived in when I was in the station and both were ICRs.

I got thinking as 217 seemed shut down and if a 201 mk4 set arrive into the station and as the train was then preparing to leave and the 201 failed or had to be taken off the train. How long would it take them to power up the spare 201 ?

If I recall correctly you're looking at about 20 minutes to do the pre-departure checks, prime and start the engine, as well as checking the brakes.

Would love if somebody could catch a video of one being started, it happens more now so it should be possible!

There was a 40 minute delay due to mechanical failure on the 07:35 departure ex Connolly according to IR twitter, which may have caused the substitution at the Belfast end ? Just curious as all three sets were running yesterday.

218 hauled the Waterford to Ballina timber train.

234 hauled the Ballina to North Wall IWT liner.

    I was in Kildare from 12:30 to 5:15 today and I didn't encounter a single mk4 set.

A Mark 4 service would of passed just before 5.30, the second Cork bound mark 4 of the day.

Something I alway wondered about the 201s

When they are stopped and sitting idle...you can hear the engine rev up on its own then settle back down at times...or when they are coming to a halt....the revs will drop way down then come back up and idle.
Anyone know the setup on these as to what's happening at the time.?
