Visitors stealing from your house

Is it common for visitors to steal when they are in your house or is the guy that robbed an LED bulb from the bathroom in my place recently just a bit mad? 4 visitors and only 1 went upstairs, switched on the light next night and the bulb was missing. No other possible explanation, this guy took it!

The guy that took it would be pretty well respected and intelligent and not the type you would expect to do something like this.
For the past few weeks i have been buying expensive phillips LED's whenever i can afford them and the last one i bought was put into the spare bathroom only that day, Im having to remind myself of that part because it seems so odd for someone to steal somthing like this and you question yourself.

    Is this common?

If someone nicked something from my house, they wouldn't be invited back.

For the past few weeks you've been buying expensive bulbs whenever you can afford them, and you think this other guy is a bit mad?

It's not common for visitors to steal from their friends.

Just keep your head down, do your time and when you've paid your debt to society you won't have to worry about your "visitors" nicking stuff from your cell house anymore.

Stick any new lightbulbs up your arse before fitting them...you can bask in knowledge of what you did, next time anyone robs them.

That was mean. If they treated your friend like **** why were they friends with them?
I would not take anything from anyone's home and would not be happy if it happened to me.

Hey folks, just realised i now have a spare LED lightbulb, any tips on how to set up an E Bay acocunt to flog it off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,984 ✭✭✭✭kippy

Ah, it common enough all right.
I've had a TV, a set of knives and a bottle opener stolen by visitors since the turn of the year alone.
The key really is to make sure you do the same when visiting. Things usually even themselves up and if you are good you will end up with better stuff than that which you had originally.

    nope:cool:

and in my experience- nor is people stealing lightbulbs or things from your house unless there is a house party which can sometimes result in **** going missing if friends of friends of friends turn up

2 video games went missing from my house over Christmas when we had a couple of parties. I have my suspicions on who's responsible but can't prove anything, It's extremely FCUKING annoying to be honest.

A ex buddy of mine used to nick my Mach 3 blades every time he came round. I got fed up of it so got my hands in 2 strips of the fake ones you get at the boot sales and left them out and invited him round for a session and yes he took the bait.. Poor f uc ker wasn't long about being found out!! Tore the face off himself with them :) them blades could be used as torture implements they're that bad !!!!

As regards light bulbs, a lad who I used to work with would take, milk, sugar, big roll, biscuits, newspaper, bulbs and washing up liquid on a regular basis. The lad was a bachelor and as mean as ****.

You had one LED bulb in your bathroom?

There's a joke about brightness in there somewhere, but I'll just ask how on earth you lit a room (even a small one) with one LED?

If this LED is bright enough to light a bathroom, I'd like to know where you get them.

In the 80's I had a problem with a so called mate swiping lawnmore petrol from a can in the front garden. One weekend he took a gallon that I just bought and dissapeared before I got to the gate. I heard the sound of an Yamaha RD LC 350 so I knew it was him.

A few weeks later I was expecting him back so I left a mixture of petrol and sugar in the same can. It also dissapeared and a few days I saw the top end of his bike and carbs stripped down at a Yamaha dealer. LOL.

Interesting thread! :) Mad that light bulbs is a common robbery, they are a bit pricey to buy alright. I had a few friends of friends rob stuff from my friends at a house party before. I usually lock my bedroom if i have a party and put anything valuable in it. I had put my friends bag and camera in my room that night because i had a weird feeling before the party. Anyhow, wallets, IDs and another camera went missing that night. We knew who it was but it was too late after we cuaght them. :(

WTF? Email all these so called "friends" and ask them to return your lightbulb.

I had a cheeky cow of a former friend come to stay after a night out once cos she didn't want to pay for a taxi. The next day I realised that my foundation, a necklace and a cardigan were gone. I was raging so I text her and she was mortified and called round an hour later with them saying she was only borrowing them. Didn't understand her at all, I lost all respect for her because I'd never do that to anyone, I hate sneaky people.

The ones with the brightest hands are usually the culprits, they being light-fingered and all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,009 ✭✭✭✭Run_to_da_hills

What you need is to set up a trap if you know someone is that is lightfingered with bulbs is calling.

Disconnect the power from thw switch in a room and have a bulb full of something combustible, if H2so4 in a capsule was added even better. This would teach the fcuker when he tries to power up the bulb when he gets home. :D

Cost me a euro but I was slightly perplexed when I copped it

A (now old) friend was over and while we were in the living room the diamond became loose in my ring, it was quite expensive, approx. 800euro, I left it in a vase on the mantle, so I didn't loose the diamond. we were heading out and I left the room before him to get my coat, then we went out. Few hours later I got home and went to get the ring to put into an envelope to bring it for repair and it was gone, it was only both of us in the house and he was alone for a moment, I mentioned it too him and he was saying he doesn't even know what I'm talking about, never seen the ring before. Funny enough we had been talking about it a few weeks previous, about how small my hands are and trying so see how it wouldn't fit in his little finger!

(before the ring went missing) another time he was over and I was getting changed and he said he forgot his wallet and went home (he lived nearby) to get it, about 4 days later drinks were being had at mine, i took out a 2l of Bacardi, the lid was already opened and the drinks were served, everyone that had it was like thats not right, I don't drink bacardi so it would have been left for weeks without being touched, basically he had poured the Bacardi into another bottle and filled the Bacardi bottle with water.

Needless to say he's a leech, a liar and a thief, I know it was him but he just denies it, he has done similar with others too.

yea this happens more than you'd think, years ago when I lived at home I left my silver bracelet on the hall table, my bro brings a few of his mates girls and lads round for a few beers. this girl who I'd never met before was admiring the bracelet asking me where I'd got it etc (wudn't mind I saved for ages and ages to buy it and told her this, it wasn't even expensive, I'd been saving my babysitting money) and next day I go to get the bracelet and voila! poof! gone. fking b1tch. hope it brought her nothing but bad luck.

When I was a kid I had a slight obsession with snakes, I even had a rubber one and had made a little newspaper nest for him. My brother brought friends of his around to the house one day when I wasn't there and when I got home and went to check on my little slithery friend he was gone, no where to be seen.

Turns out my brothers friend took it and dumped it into a skip down the hill from me. I have never forgave him. I miss my rubber snake. :(

Sadly, you gotta be careful about who you invite into your home.
Be it a so called 'mate' willing to snatch something whilst there or worse.... Worse being someone willing to break into your house cause they know what you got.

I'm from a council estate and as such so many break in's over the years (nothing shocking there) But I am willing to say majority of those break in's were from someone the person knew. Be it directly or indirectly. Aka, a mate who you invited in and got a first hand look at what you got ... or a mate who opened his mouth in passing to someone else about that you got.

Moral of the story. Don't invite anyone but close, very very very close people into your home.

OP, I've found a vital clue in the mystery of the missing bulb! It seems the culprit has been trying to flog the bulb in none other than After Hours!
