    I suppose it depends on the reason for designating it a NHA. According to the NPWS site;
    NPWS site wrote:
    This is an area considered important for the habitats present or which holds species of plants and animals whose habitat needs protection
    It says the animals or plants need the area to be protected, but makes no metion of the animal or plant themselves. However i doubt they would consrve an area for the benefit of the animals and plants to allow shooters to possibly interfere with or hunt the animals they are trying to protect by conserving the area.

    TBH i think your best bet would be to contact the NPWS and get a straight answer, and not inference of poeple's opinions that could be wrong.

    I enquired about an area before near me that was one them areas and they told me once I had permission from the farmer it was ok. It had a lake on it we used shoot duck on and I explained this and they said that it wasnt protected species so it was ok. Different areas might differ so ring to make sure

    I suppose it is area dependant, aswell as species dependant. So even if a species has a season they may not want you shooting it on certain NH areas for conservation purposes.

    Definitely ring up if in doubt.

    Hi, the following link gives contact details for NPWS regional management http://www.npws.ie/media/npws/images/Contact_numbers.pdf They can then put you in touch with your local ranger if need be. Did you look at the site synopsis for the site in question? The site synopsis is available on the NPWS and will give you a better idea what the site has been designated for and as long as you are no impacting the qualifying features there should be no issue with NPWS.

    Theres a lot of SAC's around me to protect the rivers, as they are all salmoniod rivers but that dosnt mean you can't fish on them!! Its to protect the habitat. The NHA's would be the same, they are to protect the habitat, the raised bog or whatever if you a shooting a species in season on land where you either have permission of the shooting rights I can't see any problem, but as mentioned previosuly if in doubt check with the NWPS
