What motivates me is that I'm still here. It's this or nothing so for now at least I'll take this.

I have to set goals or else there would be no reason to get up in the morning. (and yes on the positive thinking, I put in orders for stuff with the universe)

I'll be another year closer to the grave, I've a lot to get done in life and I don't know how much sand is left in my hourglass.

yes I believe in positive thinking because if i didn't i'd be dead already.

the most important part of a human beings life is the need for positive thinking, it is essential. without it you will wither away.

well it worked for me well, but i had to put a lot of study into the things i liked and wanted to learn and no matter how negative i got about having to do it i just programmed my brain to always have a positive outlook. easier said than done mind you.

Get your positive thinking mumbo jumbo away from me. It's all about the doing things because they need doing.

I'm wanting to get back into the gym for the new year. I agree that it's extremely difficult to get motivated or optimistic about doing things. For the last two months I've been saying "i'll go back next week" but it never happens.

Would love to be one of those upbeat, happy go lucky types who have no problems doing anything.

    ... the bastards! :P

    Neutral thinking.

But thats a lie, I like most people automatically drift off into negative thinking so I don't mind putting effort into positive thoughts.
Meditation is good to, just a case of being strict with myself.

In a terrible situation been here for about 4 years but I don't have to feel just as bad as a response its easier to fake a smile than embrace a frown - well that was cheesy. Yes it is cheesy..

I fucking hate the whole American "motivation" psychology bullshit. It's the kind of crap that makes "Life Coaching" a profession & shifts self help books off the shelves by the millions and it does so by preying (and profiting) on people's insecurities.

What it all blatantly ignores is that it is very possible to be motivated without the feeling the "power of positivity" the whole time. In fact, it's probably unhealthy & unwise to do so.

Negativity, doubt, etc are natural feelings.. there's nothing wrong with them & anyone who thinks that being constantly positive is a natural state of being is setting themselves up for a fall.

Obviously, a constant feeling of negativity is not good for you, but by the same reasoning, a constant feeling of postitivity can be just as dangerous in the long term.

surely the hormones you would be producing would not be as damaging to your body and your mental health couldn't be worse unless you go so far into thinking positively you lose touch with reality. But anything becomes a disorder if you venture into the extremes of any spectrum.

Those books are not a representation of the reality of dealing with negative or positive thoughts, as far as I know those books usually tell people to accept all feelings and digest them in a way that you can function other wise they would be telling you to bottle or ignore, they wouldn't get away with that there would be an out break of dissociation.

I don't know - I've never read one. I'm basing my theory on a mostly unfounded assumption and was hoping to get away with it without being pulled up.

If it wasn't for that pesky saa....

I am motivated by fcuk all, just the voices in my head tell me I should be doing more useful stuff. The voices win so I am somewhat gainfully passing my time.

The thought that there is so much to see, do, learn and experience in this world.

It takes 10,000 hours on average to master something. Most people never manage to truly master and gain supreme insight into even one thing in all their time on this planet.

I am currently working in sales and I love it. My people skills have always been lacking but I wake up looking forward to each day in my current job because I know it will make me a better person by making me better able to communicate and be closer to people.

I love my sports because it teaches me to master my body. It is like clay in my hands, I can do with it what I want. I can make myself 400 pounds and struggling to move, I can bulk up and become a tower of pure muscle, I can increase my agility and mobility and achieve the freedom to move through this world with ease.

I love to learn because knowledge is power. What mysteries and insights there are hidden away. The feeling I get when I learn something new is immense, I feel like I am one step closer to knowing the mysteries of life.

Each day is a new opportunity for me to learn about myself. To discover what makes me tick, what get's me up in the morning, what makes me happy, sad or mad. I look forward to what emotions, both good and bad, life will throw at me because it means I am still alive. I look forward to learning to be a stronger person, to be able to shape the world for the better and to learn to control my darker side.

As the song waving flags by K'naan puts it "When I grow older I will be stronger". I still have a long way to go but the thought that each day I am getting one step closer makes me smile.
    . I love you!

    What motivates me?
prejudice, stereotyping, disrespect - seeing how people harm others with their prejudices, seeing them restrict and limit other people by stereotyping them, seeing people treat others with utter disrespect - compels me to act and to keep going.

Rewards - I need them. Whether it's 30 mins of COD, a big glass of red or a movie - I need the promise of a gold star at the end to make me work!

The important people in my life. Their belief in me and their need for me to be happy makes me pull up my britches. I know my actions affect them - if I give up, it has negative consequences for them. I think of my Dad (now deceased) and I know he would hate for me to give up.

What motivates me is having a clear and obvious enemy that needs to be destroyed. It could be a person, it could be a bad habit, it doesn't matter.

    I like to win.

Seriously? Bigotry and intolerance motivate me to kill them with kindness and reason. My personal motivation stems from wanting to reach my creative potential in writing and wanting to leave a little bit of a mark on the world.
