So Berlin has officially been deferred and Dublin is now my aim.

I'm still having issues with both my feet but trying to manage it as best I can and keep the mileage going.

    Marathon training week 14/22

    Tuesday 27th – Easy Run & Strides
Last day before school kicks off so headed to Deerpark in Carlanstown with the 2 youngest so they could play on the agility course and play football while I ran a few laps. Very warm on this run and the addition of the 5 strides was to stretch out the legs. I also wore the new pair of orthotics I received in the new Saucony ride ISOs and they were fine.
    4.30 in 46.35 @ 10.49

    Thursday 29th – 3 hr Easy
My 3 were all back in school today so arranged to meet up for company on the long run which definitely helped the miles fly by. It started off flat enough and the there was plenty of hills. The route worked out just over 16m in 2 55 so added a bit more to bring up to the 3 hrs
Feet were annoying me with about 2 miles to go but stretched them out as I ran and they weren’t too bad. Iced them when I got home.

Took 750 ml of water, 500ml tailwind and 2 gels – all good.

    16.55m in 3.00 @ 10.54

    Friday 30th - Easy run
Late enough heading out and plan was 3m. I couldn’t believe how warm it was and I really enjoyed the run so of course I added another mile but then it was getting dark and it’s not a road to be running on in the dark or you’d easily go over on your ankle as its very uneven.

    4.22m in 47.40 @ 11.17

    Saturday 31st – Easy hour
Planned parkrun had to be postponed as the little lady needed an extra in bed before we headed off to her soccer. Headed out that evening and it was chiller than I expected and could have done with a t-shirt instead of the vest I was in. It was a cool 13 degrees compared to the 18 from the previous evening. Then the rain came for the last 10 mins and I was cold enough getting home.

    5.51m in 1.01 @ 11.07

Sunday 1st September - Easy hour

Headed out in a tshirt as it was 12 degrees but I was too warm. I went down the main road for this one and I had to keep pulling the pace back as I was going too fast even though I felt like I was crawling. No significant hills so that would explain it. Would have like to go further but Soccer tournament to get to and Physio in the evening. The soccer tournament ran 2 hour behind schedule so instead of standing for 2 hour, I was standing for 4. Feet and back were in bits by the time I got to physio and she worked wonders on me for over 1 ½ hours.

    Total for the week 36.8m

    Marathon training week 15/22

Strange week this. First week back in work after 10 weeks off and I was really feeling the early mornings. I got to bed early enough but also back doing the long drive also took its toll.

Monday I went for a 25 min walk while girls were warming up for u13 match and Tuesday was a rest day, body was a bit battered after Sunday evenings treatment and the added fatigue meant that I didn't push for a run.

    Wednesday 4th - Long Run
I was off today so had arranged to run with the same lady as last week and we were going to do the same route as last week but in the opposite direction. Raining as we started and very windy so I went with a light long sleeved top 7 shorts. She was in a vest and was really cold at times even though the sun came out for most of the run, the wind took away any heat you might get.

We both found this run a bit tougher than the previous week and we don't know if it was the wind r just cumulative fatigue. I also had a bit of a bug over the few days and this might have impacted me more than I realised. We kept everything slow and just ran by feel. The last 4 miles were tough into a strong head wind and then the rain came again, but overall we lucky with the weather and the miles flew by. Definitely would have been very tough solo.

I wasn't feeling great after the run but had 3 school runs to do and get organised for the evening. We were having our first girls U11 match of the Autumn season and I had to get the team lineout sorted and the pitch set up. By early afternoon my feet were very sore and I was having difficulty walking. A 30 min power nap, while the dinner was cooking and then icing my feet made a huge difference and the evening was more manageable.

    17.21m in 3.10 @ 11.03 pace

    Friday 6th - Easy run 6 miles.
Didn't get out on Thursday so made sure I got out Friday and really enjoyed this run. Perfect running weather sunshine and light wind. Cant remember if there were any issues with the body. Ended up doing 6 miles and followed up with the Myrtl program which I have neglected over the pas few weeks.
    6.07m in 1.05 @ 10.49 pace

    Saturday 7th - Kettlebells Class
To return to Kettlebells has been on my mind for the past few months as when I did them before I was in great shape and weight 2 & a half stone lighter than I do now!! So I took the bull by the horns when I seen a new 6 weeks program starting and getting the go ahead at home (because there is so much to work around with kids activities) I recruited my sister to re-join with me, safety in numbers :D
So for the next 6 weeks, fingers crossed I will attend 2 classes (3 where possible as that's the program) and I am back clean eating and hoping to lose 14 lbs in the 6 week period and then I hopefully will continue and get 2 stone off by years end. With the 8lbs Ive already lost it should bring me back to a very healthy weight.

Anyway Saturdays class was ok as I did the beginners class but I still felt it everywhere. I was very sick in the afternoon with afore mention bug that has been haunting me all week so I ended up not being able to get out for a run.

    Sunday 8th - Easy Run
Very stiff and sore all day. I watched the GRN and 3 x Great Camogie matches and then headed out for a run. Told them at home I could be 10 mins or I could be an hour but once I started and did 2 very slow miles, everything loosened out so though I'd keep going. Got a text after 75 mins to see was all ok :D
Ended up with 10 miles and very happy with that to make a reasonable week with only 3 runs.

    Marathon training week 16/22

    Monday 9th - Rest day
I missed the Kettlebells class as I had a girls match and didn't fit any exercise in.

    Tuesday 10th - Easy 45
While Laura was soccer training I went out for a lovely easy trot on the back road around Kilberry. Visitied a few new roads too and got plenty of ups & downs to keep the pace honest. It was raining heading out but was very warm so had to remove the light rain jacket I had on. Getting dark as I returned and even with Hi Viz on I'm not sure how much longer I can go out at this time. Having said that I could always just run the pitches!!

    Total 4.15m in 44.41 @ 10.45

Wednesday 11th - Kettlebell and Core class
This was definitely an education as I've never worked with a barbell and only briefly with medicine ball before but it was also good fun.
    Plenty of sweat!!
We do plenty of running as warmup and the feet are doing ok without having any issues. Found my knees were feeling it while doing the exercises but were fine once finished.

Thursday 12th - Rest day - day got away from me and was away at appointments with the you one not getting home until alte so she missed soccer challenge match and I missed my run. Time to sort access to the treadmill again.

Friday 13th - Rest day - I had an hour to spare after getting home from work early and doing school pickup and had time for a run but just had no inclination to go for one. it was so bad, I cleaned the house instead and that's not like me  Friday evening and away at Niamh's football that evening and again contemplated a run while girls were warming up but decided to read my book instead.
I did do my home program when I got home but its only 20/25 mins

Saturday - Kettlebells and Core class
We weight in on a Saturday and I was delighted with a 3lb weight loss as I followed the clean eating guide all week.
Another great class but again knees were feeling it as there was a lot of squats in this class but again fine once class was over. Fully intended to go for a run in the afternoon but wasn't feeling 100% so went for a 30 min power nap that lasted 2 hours  and then had stuff on all evening including watching a great replay.

    Sunday 15th 8m with 4 @ MP
Headed out for an easy run but within 2 miles the left foot arch was start to ache so I decided to inject a bit of pace. Ended up doing 4 @ MP and the foot eased but came back in the last mile and was not great for the last mile.
A misty rain that was coming at all angle so the cap want much protection so I was went for the whole of this run but I enjoyed it. :o I hadn't done any MP in the last couple of week so happy with it.

    MP=9.41, 9.45, 9.51, 9.39
    Total 8.03 m in 1.22 @ 10.16

So overall a poor running week and I thought I was doing myself a favour by allowing the body to get used to the kettlebells/circuits/core classes and letting the feet rest but the left foot is very tender again this morning and had to ice it before work, so maybe shorter runs are better. I'll see how this week goes and play around with the different orthotics & runners I have as yesterday combination didn't work.

We have a home program to do from the CBF program and the body is definitely getting use to the exercises again as its less sore everyday:D

AH thanks B. I think I'm just going to trot around and do some miles @ MP. Final decision tomorrow when I see how tight calf is.

Thanks N. I know but haven't gotten a chance, busy in work, busy every evening and football is in full swing.

All going well thankfully. The half went really well and I felt great and strong throughout. (2.02)

I've ben doing 2 or 3 x Kettlebell/circuits/core classes every week for the past 6 weeks and with the few lbs I lost before I started I've 15lbs gone so happy with that. another 15 over the next 2 months and I'll be delighted.

Feet are 85% better with a few issues nearing the end of the longer runs, so aim for Dublin is 4.20 -4.30 or whatever it ends up being. Hoping that after 20m the feet will play ball or it could be a long 6 miles limping home.

I kind of fell off my plan but got al the prescribed long runs done with the longest being 19 with 14 @ MP. This should have being 17 but I pushed it out having done a 17m a few weeks earlier. Majority of long runs were 16m but happy with that.

I'll try get a full update done before next weekend.:o

    DCM 2019 - Marathon no #10 - short report.

Goal 1 - get to the start line - Achieved
Goal 2 - get around without incident - Achieved
    Goal 3 - Time aim 4.20 - 4.30 - Achieved

    Previous PB 3.49 (2016)
    Target 4.20

    Official time 4.21.17
    1st half 2.10.38
    2nd Half 2.10.39

I had an issue with my hamstring that had reared its head the previous week and when i went to get it strapped Friday evening i was told it was borderline and if any issues with it I had to stop. So iI was very nervous heading off and I was waiting for the pull the whole way round. The PF made itself know at mile 6 but didn't get any worse which I'm really thankful for.

Overall I had a really enjoyable day, high 5'ed all the kids and enjoyed the atmosphere. Found it difficult holding back in the first 6 miles as hundreds passed me, but i then passed hundreds from mile 14 on.

Pacing was pretty spot on considering it was all run by feel.

    Mile 1-5 - 9.58, 9.50, 10.05, 9.50, 9.56 - pretty uneven as had to keep pulling the pace back

    miles 6 - 10 - 10.57(toilet stop) 9.56, 9.54, 9.43, 9.47,

miles 11 - 15 - 10.01, 9.33, 9.41, 10.10, 9.58 zoned out a bit here on this section and pace slipped but as it was by feel I obviously need it.

    Mile 16 - 20 - 9.45, 9.45, 9.45, 10.54(toilet stop), 9.47

Mile 21 & 22 - 9.54, 10.14 (easy going up heartbreak hill as so many were walking it was hard to keep running)

    Mile 23 - finish 9.50, 9.45, 9.58, 9.37, 8.55(.30)

I used 750ml of tailwind and had it gone by half way and overall took 4 gels, probably didn't need them but I'll never know as its what could have helped me get around comfortably. Thankfully no sickness or stomach issues and my legs are in the best condition after any of the previous marathons.

I had a gentle rub on Wednesday and the hamstring is still a bit ropey so decided not to run this week, but maybe a parkrun in the morning. Exercises to start next week to try strengthen it.

Donedea 50k training starts next week - 14 weeks

Glad you got around in one piece Anne, glad you enjoyed it...
Just go easy starting into Donadea training on Monday.

I'd probably do feck all running for next two weeks to get over the marathon. Let everything settle down while just doing walking/pilates/stretching kinda work.

I might head to Donadea for a spectating role myself......

That's some pacing by feel! One second difference between the first half and second half :pac: Seems to have been very comfortable for you, all things considered. Well done :)

Ye planning on taking it very easy for two weeks and letting the hamstrings settle.

Would be great to see friendly faces at Donadea.:D

Cheers J. I was very happy when i realised the consistency. Some miles were slightly faster and some slightly slower but overall because it was by feel it made more sense to me to just go with the body.
I wasn't pushing to get a certain time so didn't put myself under extra pressure and as a result enjoyed the experience totally.

It was like running the first marathon again :D

I've a lot going on in work at the moment so haven't had a chance to update last few weeks of training.

anyhoo, just 2 easy runs since the marathon.

Parkrun with Laura on Saturday, that turned into an unintentional Progression run and an easy 5k on Sunday

Hamstrings, especially right one, are still a little tight and i can especially feel them when driving and sitting for long periods.

Plan for this week is 3 x easy runs.

Hopefully today, Sat & the Remembrance Run on Sunday with Laura.

Next week more structure required. and im returning to Kettlebells/circuit class. Dreading the DOMS for the first few days.

Not sure yet what the training plan is for Donadea but might just follow similar to the marathon plan.

Really missing the evening light and i may have to start driving to local towns to get the runs in.

The dark evenings are lousy aren't they? Bad enough here in the city never mind on roads with no lighting, I can only imagine!
Well done on DCM - delighted you enjoyed it and that the PF didn't cause too much pain during.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,883 ✭✭✭Younganne

ok so its time to get off my ar*e and get back at it.

Recovery from DCM has gone well but if I don't get back to a plan ill have a hape of weight back on and wont be fit for anything

    So since DCM
    Week 1 - Recovery
    Oct 26th - 30 mins walking
    November 2nd - Navan parkrun -28.49 progression
    November 3rd - easy miles - 3.20m

    Week 2 - Recovery
    November 9th - easy miles 4.80m
    November 10th - Easy miles 5.62m

This weeks plan is 3 x runs with medium run of 8 m

I haven't gone back to classes yet as the evenings are so horrivel and ive been shattered so trying to get enough sleep to tackle new plan starting next week = 12 week marathon plan for Donadea.

I'm going to follow a 12 week plan I found online and the only change I'm making to it is that I'm adding a 10m run every week the day before my Long run so that I have back to back longish runs.

Any thoughts on it would be much appreciated.:o

    Recovery Week 3
Well I'm glad I posted last week as it inspired me to get back to it.:o

Thursday 14th Nov - easy run & Pilates Class
An evening that was cold & frosty and I nearly stayed by the fire as none of the kids had any activities but last minute decided to go for a run before Pialtes class

So 3.22m @ 10.36 easy around the football field and then straight into Pilates.
    3.22 @ 10.36 in 34.11

First time back to Pilates since before the Summer and boy could I feel it. Great class with hamstring work, just what I needed as they are still a bit ropey.

    Saturday 16th - 8m - 1E, 2MP, 1E, 2MP, 1T, 1 E
I had a girls u11 football match scheduled for 11.30 but by 9.30 I was down to 8 players as there's a bug doing the rounds in our village so match was cancelled and I headed out for a run.

Was planning a few MP just to dial into it and add something other than the easy miles I've done since the marathon so ended up with 1E, 2MP, 1E, 2MP, 1T, 1 E
The MP all came in a slightly on the fast side but all felt comfortable and I wasn't clock watching so just went with it.

    Planned pace = MP 9.40 T 9.06
    MP = 9.38, 9.30, 9.36, 9..36, T= 9.01
    Total 8.30m @ 9.53 in 1.21.59

    Sunday 17th - Easy run
Headed out and was planning 5m maybe 60 mins but it was such a beautiful day that I just kept adding miles and ended up doing 9m.

I really enjoyed them but had to keep pulling back the pace as I was drifting into steady pace. I did this down the main road and back so none of the usual hills that keep my pace low but will head back to the hills next week

    Total 9.12 @ 10.34 in 1.36

So that brings me to 12weeks until Donadea and despite planning and printing off copies of the above mentioned plan (previous post), I had a think about it and had a chat with the club coach and he's going to do me up a 12 week plan similar to the marathon plan we've just completed.
So I await with bated breath to see what he comes up with.:)

Meanwhile quads are a little tight today but its to be expected after 2 runs back to back first time since the marathon.

Think I've found my mojo again:D and I am looking forward to the next 12 weeks. I've even cleared a path to my treadmill :D so I've no excuses for not getting any runs done.

 Time to do a bit of an update

Tuesday 19th Nov - easy run with Laura
I let Laura set the pace as she's the 10yr old but have to say not a bother on her. She chatted the whole time and flew up the "big" hill with me huffing & puffin behind her. Enjoyed the run
    3.12m in 36.30 @ 11.22

    PM - Pilates great class

Wednesday 20th Nov - Circuits class
Kettlebells, barbells, med ball & core - great class, did all the reps but at a lighter weight seeing as its the first class back after the marathon.

School football final on Saturday put paid to any change to run. Great day for our first ever girls team winning their final with Laura having a great game.

    Sunday 24th - Longish run
    Plan 12m,
    Actual 10.25m

Time to start upping the mileage a bit with the 50K on the horizon. Seriously don't think I'll make the 5 hrs cut-off with the fitness so far behind where I was in 2017 when I did it last time(4.54), so plan is to just go with the flow and see firstly if I can complete it and secondly in whatever time it takes . I think 5.10 - 5.15 is realistic goal.

Mark was training in Navan with the emerging Talent soccer squad so headed off for a run from the MDL pitches.
Got back with intention of doing a few laps easy but the training finished early so left it at 10m

    3 @ easy, 5 @ MP, 1 @ Tempo, 1 @ E
    MP (aim 9.40) = 9.37, 9.47, 9.45, 9.39, 9.39
    Tempo(aim 8.55) 8.53
    Total 10.25m in 1.41 @ 9.55

Monday 25th Nov - Circuits Class
Hamstrings are niggley and calf tight after hurting it getting out of the car when I got home yesterday. got appointment for rub out tomorrow so should be ok then

    Wednesday 27th - easy run
While waiting for Niamh's Minor football match to kickoff I did a few laps around Slane pitches. I found it difficult to run in the sandy gravel so just kept it very handy stating off and as I got use to it the pace picked up so ended up with a mini progression run
    10.49, 10.31, 10.24, 10.01
    Total 3.14m in 33.12 @ 10.33

and that brings me up todate. Hope to get logging more frequently and not let it slide so far done the list.

The plan is to get out over the Christmas whenever I can and not worry about mileage once the long runs get done.

The plan for 2020 is to continue to regain the fitness. I don't think any of My PBs are in danger but will build towards getting back nearer to where I used to be.

Race plan for 2020, PG & Fingers crossed is:
Jan - Half marathon in Donadea 'World festival" of running
    Feb - Donadea 50k
March - Half in Carlingford or Bohermeen
    April - Conn Half Marathon
May - Belfast Marathon - Relay
    June - Aug - 5m, 10, & half(maybe race series)
    Sept - Berlin Marathon
Oct - Dec - whatever takes my fancy :D

Happy Christmas to you all and your families.

So despite all the best of intentions and building up after Dublin Marathon, I've had a shocking training cycle with illness and then blisters so missed 3 weeks of training.

I was coming from Dublin marathon with low mileage and had hoped to pick it up but somehow it just never happened. I managed 1 week of over 45 miles but then I was on antibiotics for the next 2 and that was that.

I've had a few good long runs including
    1 x 18m
    1 x 16m with 10m @ MP.
    1 x 15m various speeds
    1 x 13m,
    1 x 12m with 10m @ MP
2 x 10m with 5m @ MP , so all's not lost but on Saturday I will be taking it as it comes and whether its 5/ 6 laps or I mange a few more, I'm going to enjoy the no pressure running.
I certainly wont be beating my 2017 time of 4.54.

Here's hoping that 2020 will be kinder to me than 2018 and 2019 have been and thing just keep improving.

Donadea 50k, what a great event and fantastic atmosphere.

My 2nd time at this event but unfortunately i didn't get to finish it yesterday. I started having an issue with my left hamstring as early as on the 2nd lap at about mile 4. I've had no issue with it before and i was having the right one treated even as late as Wednesday. It wasn't 100% but good enough to run.
So the fact that the left one was giving me more of an issue was annoying. It was quite uncomfortable during lap 4 so ducked into the tent and had them both rubbed out. Headed off on lap 5 at a slower pace and it was much improved for that lap but started to give me issue again on lap 6 and i was limping.

I decided to finish at end of lap 6, but when i got there it wasn't too bad and the cheers made me feel like i could keep going, so headed off for another lap. My family had arrived and as i was finishing lap 7 I told them to follow me to the tent as i was limping again with pain in my hamstring and glute and it was causing a pain in the arch of my foot which was not going away.

Physios were great, as were all the people who let me skip the queue to get taped and I had planned on going out again but, when i got up from the table i was shivering with the cold, and my legs seized up and i could hardly walk. Unfortunately at that point i had to admit defeat.

I was so cold that I couldn't even wait to see my friends finishing. Took me a good while to warm up and on the 1.5 hr drive home my legs kept cramping and seizing up.

Have to say my fellow runners were fantastic and as i was lapped people were urging me to keep going as i was at the back of the pack for a good bit after lap 4 when i lost an extra 6 mins in the tent.

I hope to get back next year and try beat my 2017 time of 4.54 as i would love a sub 4.30 finish. well see what the year brings.

Well done to everyone taking part there was fantastic running going on out there yesterday. Blessed with the weather and lucky to dodge most of Storm Ciara.

    7/10 laps in 3.41.

Physio told me it was radiating form my glute and last night i remembered that on Friday morning when doing my glute stretch, the left one was very tight and i felt something pull, but it was fine all day so passed no remarks on it.

Today the body has slight DOMS in my quads and my left hip and my upper right back is very tight but other than that its the usual feeling after a long run.

I got appointment for Tuesday evening to get checked out and we'll take it from there. fingers are crossed that its nothing serious and maybe just a strain from Friday morning.

Feb 9 - Feb 18 no running - lots of resting, eating and drinking

So since Donadea I've had 2 sessions with the combined muscle therapist that looks after me. On the first visit on Feb 11th, she assessed everything and my hamstrings were both troublesome but nothing to worry about. ,She did lots of work with the needles and then taped both of them for me and told me easy runs only, if any..

No running for 9 days and then I started back out easy.

I'm doing Bohermeen in March & conn Half marathon in April and I wanted to get back out running.

These will not be raced but just enjoyed for the sake of being able to run. Conn has always been on my To Do list so I decided to do the Half and see if I will go back for longer next year.

    Week 1/9 Run 1, Feb 18th - Easy miles

Laps of Slane walking track at the pitch while eldest was at indoor training. Baltic out and first ime running where I didn't have to take off the light jacket, hat or gloves.

The track is slightly over a half mile and the bottom half of it is quite difficult to run on as its made up of very small loose stone and its like running on soft sand so calves were feeling it and the pace dropped each time on this section but no worries as I just wanted to run easy. No issue with hamstrings.

    4.70m @ 11.13 in 52.51

    Week 1/9 Run 2, Feb 20th - Wu, 3 x 5 mins T off 3 mins, Cd

Another football pitch with the eldest again and another cold evening and I sat in the car for nearly 20 mins trying to persuade myself to go and run. It wasn’t as cold as the previous night’s running and the jacket was off after 1 mile warm up. I decided after a mile it was a bit boring as each lap is only about .3 of a mile so decided to add a bit of speed to make it more interesting.

Threshold pace is 8.50 so that was the aim for 5 mins with 3 mins easy running. Really enjoyed it and of course I was kicking myself for not getting out earlier and I could have done another rep, but I suppose 3 was enough as the right hamstring was a little achy for some of it.

Threshold sections came in at: 8.49, 8.40, 8.43

    4.32m @ 9.50 in 42.26

    Week 1/9 Run 3, Feb 21st – Easy run

The Sun was shining as I left work so I decided that when I got home, I’d go for a short run, but when I got home the wind was howling and the hailstones were pelting down so I has tea and biscuits instead. Then I realised I’d sit eating all evening so to save me from myself I popped on the gear and headed for the treadmill. First time using the TV when running and it really took the boredom away. Netflix is great and I enjoyed a very easy run, before I headed off for treatment.

There was a hugh improvement in my hamstring and only a few needles required in my hamstrings and the calves were not happy either so they got some too. Everything felt much better after.

Week 1/9 Run 4, Feb 22nd Freedom Parkrun

No Soccer for Laura this week so we headed off to help out at Deerpark, Carlanstown parkrun. Laura’s first volunteer credit. The wind was howling a gale but where we were marshaling it was sheltered by trees behind us and there was no wind. The sun was shining and it was like a summer’s day.

After a quick cuppa and the obligatory photos, we set off on a lap of the park, but forgot to start the watch!!. Then Laura told me she had her book with her to read so I went on and did a few more miles as she sat in the car engrossed in Tom Gates. The wind was savage on one side of the park but the sun was shining so overall it was a lovely run. Ended up being a progression run with the 5k parkrun section coming in a 30.20.

    Total 5.20m in 51.51

I had planned a longer run on Sunday, but hamstring was very achy so decided to rest it.

    Total for the week 17.3m

Week 2/9 - Building back up

Run 1- Monday 24th February - Easy run

I don't usually run on a Monday but having not run on Sunday I decided to test out the hamstrings. Headed off on my usual route amd there was a lot of surface water and I got through that but almost half a mile in and the road was completely flooded for about 30m and its a small country road and verge was full of water too so I turned and headed home as this was the flat section so I've no idea what the bottom of the hills would be like around the river.

Went up the other way from home which was no harm as I tend to avoid those hill  but turned out to be a lovely run with no hamstring issue while I was running. They were achy later in the day. Would have kept going but I had a school bus collection (9km away) to do.
I had the new orthotics in too and there was some slight discomfort for about the first 500m and then all was fine.

    3.40m in 36.11 @ 10.38

    Tuesday & Wed - Rest.
Tuesday I was on course so had a later start which resulted in a 2 hour commute. This didn't help the hamstrings at all. They were still achy on Wednesday so rested again.

    W2/9 R2 - Thursday 27th - Easy miles
I had arranged to meet someone to run with while the girls did soccer training. I was tired and cold and only for the arrangement I may have not run, but as usual, once I got going I was fine. Really enjoyed it, nice and slow without looking at the watch. Just laps of the MDL soccer pitches on the walkers path. Hamstring fine running but again a little niggly after. A good rubout of them in the shower usually helps.
    3.60m in 41.13 @ 11.26

    W2/9 R3 - Friday 28th - 2m E, 3 @ HMP(9.00), 1.5 E
I was working from home and had the gear on to go outside but the horizontal hailstones and wind made me change my mind and take the easy option. When I get very cold when running it takes me all day to warm back up and my skin soon won't tolerate the extremely hot showers for much longer. Netflix & Fan on and off I went.
The HP pace aim was 9.00 minutes and of course this is much easier to control on the treadmill so they came in at 8.59, 8.59 & 8.58. There is no way I could sustain that in Bohermeen next week but hopeful of being able to get nearer to it in the Connemara Half in 7 weeks.

    7.20m in 1.12 @ 10.06

    W2/9 R4 - Saturday 29th February - Leap Day Parkrun

Headed off to Deerpark Carlanstown parkrun with Laura as we wanted to do the Leap Day parkrun. The snow was starting to fall as we arrived but thankfully it was only a light shower. The sun was shining and the wind was howling so we eventually got out of the car and did the group warmup while chatting to runners around us. and then suddenly we were off and I hadn't the watch ready.
Anyway Got sorted and although the plan was an easy run I got carried along as the start:rolleyes:, as its a very narrow start so you kind of have to just go with it. Laura was beside me and she was comfortably trotting along. She prefers to do her own thing and she had her inhaler in her hand so after half a lap I pulled ahead.

I paid no attention to pace and I was feeling good so just went with it. It ended up being an unplanned progression run and I came in 15th overall and 4th female. Numbers are low at Deerpark, usually 50 -60 runners but good testing course with 2 nice hills which you do 3 times.

Got a surprise to see Laura coming in not long after me. She was 24th overall, 9th female and got a really big PB of 29.04, previous one 30.26 from Dundalk last year. Her first sub 30 5k, not bad for an 11 year old. She was delighted with her run and had even spend the last lap chatting to a lady who was a first timer and the lady said after that Laura helped her to keep going. Very proud of her:D
Chats, cuppa tea and then the long way back to the car for a cool down mile.
    Total 4.14m Parkrun came in at 27.14 (8.56, 8.44, 8.24, 7.33)

    W2/9 R5 - Sunday 1st March - 8m - 4 Easy, 3 @ MP, 1 Easy
Niamh's football match was cancelled and so myself and Laura headed to Navan to Blackwater park. Laura wanted to cycle while I ran and she doesn't like going on the road and I reckoned the greenway in Drogheda may be flooded as its alongside the river so Navan was next choice.

The first 3 laps she cycled beside me and we had hailstone, wind & sunshine and it was very cold on one half of the park. After 3 laps Laura decided she'd run a lap with me before heading to the car to read. It lashed hailstones again on this lap so she left it at one and got into the car, even thought the sun came out again.

I continued onto lap 5 and the rain came then and I unwittingly picked up the pace as it was so cold. Realised it was MP when the mile beeped so decide to keep going as it felt very comfortable. Did another 2 and then headed to the car to check on Laura and see if she wanted to join me for another lap. No, she was feeling the cold so I told her I'd only do 1 more cool down and not the planned 3.
Really enjoyed the afternoon run and the body behaved itself.

    MP currently is 9.40 - 9.37, 9.33, 9.32
    Total 8.5 laps -8.06m in 1.20 @ 9.56

No issue with the hamstrings last night and its probably due to the fact that I've started doing the exercises I've been given to do.:D

The plan for Bohermeen this weekend will probably be a progression type run and build up toward Connemara half on April 19th.

Happy with how I am getting on and taking it week by week.
Trying to take control of the eating again and have 3.5 lbs off this week so long may that continue. Positive mind frame again and mojo going ok so onward to whatever may be. Berlin Marathon is still the target for the year.

    Total for the week 26.4m
