Ah that’s proxy A, hopefully it’s only a minor setback for you.

OH I know that feeling Anne but hang in there it will come right for you
I hope those blisters do not come back and your back out and pain-free

    Hi Anne,

Thinking about this and I feel maybe a new approach might be better for you as thinking back to when Laura_ac had PF she changed her training and mind-set to slowly build up the minutes and forget about the miles. After a lot of patience she then came back to form. For a while she was running 3 miles and thinking sure it is only 3 miles but at the time it was too much. By switching to minutes and managing the foot with rolling/icing and resting she was able to return to form. I know how great you are when you train and good that you've adjusted your fitness paces but maybe at the minute the miles are just too much.

I hope this post helps rather than hinder you at the minute.

She also had some sock thing for bed. Have you seen those?

Poxy is the right word for it alright B and hopefully it is only a minor setback. We shall see what the week holds. Good to see you back on form. Great street names over there.

Blisters healed N so here's hoping its onwards from here. Same thing happened last time i got new orthotics, think he forgets I've sensitive "little" feet ha (size 8) :D
Hows the new plan working out?

Thanks A, yes that makes perfect sense and i kinda have been doing that for the past 7 weeks.
The gut is telling me that the new orthotics were the final piece in the jigsaw for me, along with the icing, exercise, slower runs and treatment.

He made me another new pair and they arrived yesterday evening, wore them for a bit in the house but decided not to run. Foot is much improved today so will do a short run later, 20- 25 mins max.

You back flying after the hols and I'm going to join you in Project Skinny!! 10 weeks to my holidays and not a stitch to fit!!!

    Week 1st - 7th April

    Monday & Tuesday - Rest
foot was very sore and I had planned a few laps of football field while youngest was training but sensible thing was to rest. New orthotics arrived and he's made me another new pair. Wednesday before the PF pain eased.

Wednesday 3rd April - short easy run

Half an hour to wait before girls u12 match kick-off, lashing rain but stuck a rain jacket and baseball cap on and off I headed out the road for a test run, 1 mile out and I could feel the rub starting so turned and headed back.
Feet were raw when I got home but not as bad as previous pair. very disheartened, but good news is tat the PF is definitely not as bad.
    10.26, 10.31, 10.19 (.31)
    Total 2.31m in 24.14

Thursday Pilates - great class again.
Every week I find some new part of me that is too tight or not working properly. I've a terrible time with the knees wandering due to weak hips so need to keep this going!! I was feeling very old but few other had said that it takes a while to get use to it and get stronger, jeez though 2 classes and id be flying ;) (if only!!) No Pilates next week due to Show in the hall but following week is the end of this 6 week cycle. I will be signing up again for the next 6 weeks!!

Friday 5th April - short easy run
another test run and hoping to get a bit further. first mile was grand and then the rub started. I stopped to tighten my laces as felt the foot was moving in the runner too much, but the tightening made the rubbing worse so had to turn for home again but I did preserver to get 2.5m done.

The left foot was rubbing worse than the right and I couldn't understand as I had a blister plaster on. Turns out it had moved down my foot and was giving no protection at all. I also discovered that I didn't have a blister, just a raw foot as I'm missing a few layers of skin so very tender. after my shower I covered both insteps with savlon and ordinary plaster to give it some relief.
    10.36, 10.54, 10.34(.54)
    Total 2.54 in 27.15

    Sunday 7th - easy run

45mins to kill before a girls u16 match this time so headed out again. Brought my old orthotics with me this time so if the rub started I wouldn't have to endure it till I got back to the pitch. Before leaving home I had pushed and bent and rubbed the new ones to see if I could soften them a bit before putting them into my runners.

I had a slight niggle from the PF but as usual, this was gone by half a mile and definitely no rub on the feet. I pushed it out to 1.6m before turning. I was delighted to manage 3 m with out any issue except for the sweat that was pouring off me.

I was so busy concentrating on the feet and waiting for the rubbing to start that it was a little faster that my new slower easy paces.

    10.10, 9.52, 9.58, 9.54 (.20)
    Total 3.20 in 32.00

Hugh improvement in the PF again which confirms my suspicion that the return last week was due to the running in the old orthotics again. I'm hoping that the new orthotics are going to continue to improve and I will build up the distance slowly in them.

The mileage is not great but at least I have managed 8 weeks of running with no major setbacks. I will continue on with easy running only for the time being and see where I'm at in another 4 weeks.

Here's hoping that its onwards to Berlin now. I booked my flights & accommodation last week so no going back.:D Berlin is the aim, but it will be get around and not worry about any time target. Fingers crossed I get a break this time. 15 mths is a long time to be off my game!!!!

Delighted your week ended on a high :) I stick a bit of KT tape or equivalent over blister plasters to keep them in place. I had to do that for DCM my new runners rubbed the side of my foot any time I went past 5k

Week 8th - 14th April - another very low mileage week

Operation Berlin Starting this week - 25 weeks to go so building up again before increasing the mileage. At the moment, the aim is just to get around Berlin after the last 16 months it would be nice to get some proper injury free running done.

    Monday 8th - Rest

    Tuesday 9th - easy run
Headed out and within a mile i could feel the rubbing on the feet and realised that i forgot to reapply plasters, so just turned and headed for home.
    Total 2.10 m in 23.03

    Wednesday 10th Rest

    Thursday 11th Easy Run

Headed out and the first 1.5m was great but then the rubbing started and became pretty intense fairly quickly. Stopped at 2, and changed to myold orthotics. Bliss straight away. Discovered when i got home that my plasters had moved so need to get a different approach. Skin is still raw and the rubbing is preventing it from healing.

On this run, in spite of the feet, I felt strong and that my form was good and that obviously the Pilates is working. There's none this week but I will be signing up to the next 8 week block and aim is at least once per week and 2 classes if i can manage it.

    Saturday 13th Dundalk parkrun

Laura has been trying to get her 20th parkrun done but her soccer is usually on every Saturday morning. She had none this week so after dropping her big sister to work we headed for Dundalk. She needed the restrooms so I stopped off at the Apple Service station on the motorway and as we arrived in plenty of time the last time and we knew where we were going this time, i thought we had lots of time. However when we parked up and headed for the start we decided to jog to the start line, but as we were heading in that direction we saw the runners taking off. So we just continued running when we got there and we had to make our way through the walkers but sure what difference did it make. She wasn't chasing a time today. I always let her set the pace and we were moving a bit faster than usual but just left it with her.

It was bitterly cold and very windy so she decided not to take off her tracksuit to run in shorts and ran with her sweatshirt on too.
The first lap was faster that she'd normally run, so we slowed a tad, but we were constantly passing people. Less that half a lap to go and she told me to go on and although I went slightly ahead she didn't fall too far behind. i didn't want to put her under pressure.

Coming in at the end you have to run past the finish, around a roundabout and back to the finish. She passed 3 people here in her sprint finished and was only 1 spot behind me.

For a 10 year old, she loves her running and loves parkrun. Her 20th parkrun time was 31.57 in place 77 to my 29th in 31.50 in 75 place. One of these days i will have to race one to see where I'm at fitness wise.

    Total 3.29 in 32.15

    Sunday 14th - Lismullen 3k

I won a free chipped entry to the 3k or 10k for this race and was contemplating the 10k but with the feet the way they are and not knowing how they would hold out, i decided to do the 3k. The young lad was to come to run with Laura but decided he'd stay in bed instead. So I told her that I'd run with her. She was a bit nervous of running on the roads without us with her so i swapped my chip entry for 2 non chip entries.
Another bitterly cold and very windy morning and we were lucky to get to park near the start, so we registered and sat in the car waiting for the run to kick off at 11.30. When we saw everyone heading to the start we headed ourselves.

Back a bit from the start but ahead of all the families with buggies and bikes . Couldn't hear anything from the front, and in mid conversation with someone and next thing we were off. We kept it easy down the hill at the start but lots of kids barreling off way too fast and even a few fallers, so we had to watch where we were going. Plenty of mini hills along the way but we kept it easy and again Laura set the pace. lovely route but so so cold.

As usual when she spotted the finish she took off and left me for dust. i went after her and there was 1 fells between us but i couldn't pass him as he ran toward the right and blocked by line(in fairness it was unknown to him)

A quick Cup of tea and hot chocolate for herself and we headed home after the 10k had started.
Default PB for both of us as neither of us have ever done a 3k race before.
    17.36 & 17.38:D

I had heel pain(PF) at the start but as usual once i got moving, by half a mile it was gone. Didn't feel any rubbing but was running long enough me thinks.

I was going to go for a run later when i got home but PF was starting to affect me again so rested instead.

    Weekly Total 10.5 miles

Another week of easy, low miles but moving in the right direction. 4 runs and 2 days back to back so will follow that patter this week but make them all 3m runs. Still a bit unsure if i need to return the orthotics again and will make that decision later in the week.

Operation Cop-On slinky started this week and aim is to lose 2 stone by the time Berlin comes around. Great start with 3 lbs off this week.

    Thanks N.

So I've had a chat with orthotics guy and he has come to the conclusion that his new covering on the orthotics is my issue. I'm allergic to it. The same happened a few years back when he changed his materials. So he will recover for me next week and all should be sorted.

This makes perfect sense as I'm allergic to, well I'm not sure exactly(plastic maybe) (unfortunately not the credit card though) as I've never been tested but I can't wear non fabric plasters or anything like that. Even the strap of the Garmin watch irritates my arm if I don't take it off for a while every now and again.

Now, that's one allergy i could do with developing

Glad you're finding light at the end of the tunnel. It's good to see you back on Strava more regularly but not so good that you're still not fully sorted. Fingers crossed for you for next week :)

    Week 15th - 21st April

Mon - Wed rest - planned - giving the foot a chance to recover as PF was playing up and it was quite sore. Ice, rest and anti-inflammatory meds taken

    Thursday 18th - Easy run

Headed out on my lunch break for this & it was a very hot run, no sun but I was melting.
Not realising how warm it was out, as it was quite cool inside the house, I had full length tights, t-shirt and have to confess a light jacket on. It wasn't long before i shed the jacket and tied it around me. The first half mile is usually quite cool and windy but then i go down into a valley and its so warm.

I managed the full 3 miles without having to change the orthotics and the rub was just starting coming near the end so persevered.:D

    Total 3.21m in 33.31 @ 10.25

    Friday 19th - Rest
It was so tempting to go out for a run but knew i had to run Sat & Sun so thought 4 days in a row might be a risk at this stage. So settled with 3 for this week but planning on going a little longer.

    Saturday 20th - Easy run
Woke with a bad headache(non alcohol type hangover) and sinus pain in my face so had a bit of a lie in, dropped eldest to work and came home. I was in my running gear but Lazed about for the morning. Lunchtime before i headed out saying i would be 30 - 60 minutes. Decided to play it by ear and added tot he run bit my bit.

Eventually decided as things were going well that I would get a 10k done and even managed 5.4m before having to change the orthotics.

I drank a full 750ml of water on this run and although its not something I would have done in the past, everything is different now and I had to make sure i didn't get dehydrated in the sun as there wasn't a whiff of a breeze of out and its a distance I'm not used to so Mrs Sensible head was with me today!!

    Total 6.5m in 1.09 @ 10.40

    Sunday 21st - easy run
AM - 2.5m walk to the local river (&home)for a duck race. 300 ducks fighting it out among the rushes to get down the river to the finish line 150 m away. Great family fun and the beautiful weather had a great crowd of families out watching it.

PM: while dinner was cooking i decided to get this done as the plan to run after dinner just might not work out!! So headed out for 3m but pushed it to 4m. The pace was slow but that's ok, i was just running by feel. The hills wipe me out and although I was tempted to walk the biggest one at start of mile 2, its the one half a mile from home that i always feel is the hardest, but i don't walk. I've never been one for walking and i just slow right down, maybe id be better off walking as it would give me a chance to catch a break.

Had the proper gear on today as in shorts & vest but forgot to add the sun cream so between the mornings walk and the evenings run i have lovely sunburn on the back of my neck.

    Total 4.04m in 43.39 @ 10.47
    Total for the week: 13.8m

another 2 lbs off too so that 5lb in 2 weeks and heading in the right direction.:D

    Some ramblings!!
I realise that I have to let go off where i was before and that i am where i am now. I need to adjust my pace but more importantly my thinking.

I still find myself drifting to a faster pace on the easy runs, so consciously I need to slow them. I can never use HR as a guide as there are so many lumps & bumps in my usual run, but i think these will stand to me in the long run.

That 2 weeks building back up for the Berlin marathon. I'm at a bit of a loss and not sure what way to go after a few more weeks building up. Coach was going to do a plan for me but i haven't heard from him in over a month so not sure whats going on. I think i might just follow a Hal basic plan as its about getting back to the distance and getting around the course and not worrying about the time.

I haven't entered any races and I'm afraid to as i don't want to jinx myself. Berlin is the aim so will take it one run at a time.;)

Have you settled on a plan yet, maybe look at the 80/20 ones from Matt Fitgerald thanks to Murph_D for queuing me on it.

Murph_D is following the 80/20 at the minute and I am following a modified version my coach says he like this type of approach for someone like me coming back from injury as it makes sure you training at the right intensity.

It might work for you maybe :)

Great to see you getting out again, it's great to end the week when you get in all your planned runs:) it has taken me a while to let go of where I was as well hopefully we both get back and then some soon :D

Thanks N, looking good for both of us so fingers crossed it continues.

I had a chat with the club coach the other night after Pilates and he will give me the club plan the others use and adjust it to suit me. He uses the Daniels approach/style of training.

Now i just have to do a race to get my current times to work training pace of.

I'm thinking of a 5k in the next 2 weeks, but the thought of racing has me terrified!! I must start throwing in a few strides as nothing faster than 10 min miles has happened in a long time.

I'm thinking of signing up to the AAI race series, 5k (next Saturday 4th), 5m in June & 10m in July. It will only happen if the kids don't have too many matches over this weekend coming.

I will make final decision during the week.

Delighted with a great weeks training. Things are finally going in the right direction.:D

    Week 22nd - 28th April
    Monday - Rest

    Tuesday 23rd - Easy run
Lovely cool evening for running. Thankfully have had no PF issues since weekends running, 2 days back to back.
Wore the old orthotics for this run and it was great not to have the skin rubbing on my feet.

    Total 3.51m in 36.57 @ 10.32

    Wednesday 24th - Rest

    Thursday 25th - Pilates
    ,
I nearly didn't go to this class as i was sooooo tired but seeing as i can only go one evening next week, I decided to cop on and go. Great class and i thoroughly enjoyed it.

Athletics is on at the same time out side so got chatting to the club coach after and hes going to give me the club plan for the marathon. I just have to do a race:eek: to get my current times to work out training times. Plenty coming up locally if my plan for the race serious doesn't work out.

    Friday 26th - Easy(steady-ish) run
Headed out while youngest was doing football training with a plan for 3m. horrible horizontal rain and in my madness decided it was best to be running in it than sitting in the car freezing after a run, so i kept running.

Then the sun came out for the last 5 min and while i was doing my stretches. Pace was a little faster than my new easy pace so we might call this one a steady run. I don't know if it was the rain or the relatively flat route but all felt easy. Lovely run:D
    Total 5.14m in 53.14 @ 10.22

    Saturday 27th - Recovery run
Put on my running gear first thing, but procrastinated all day. Even changed to go out for tea when picking up the eldest from work in Ardee. Got home and eventually headed out at 7.45 for 3 miles recovery. But it was so lovely and i felt so good it turned into just over 5 miles.

I stretched the foot before i went out as it was sore(I'm blaming the hour standing at the soccer sideline earlier in the day with the youngest one). Doing single leg heel drops are definitely helping and making the PF pain disappear.

    Total 5.20m in 58.01 @ 11.09

    Sunday 28th - Easy run
second year in a row to be missing out on running the London Marathon and now my spot is gone. Ah well I've done it once so I'll get over it, or else will just have to get the time again:D

another very slow easy run and I would have loved to just kept on running but alas, sensible is where I'm at,:D at the moment. Another great run with no PF issues or any other issues.
    Total 3.51m in 38.08 @ 10.52

Weekly total 17.4m so very happy with that. I am cautiously build up weekly to get to around 20ish before i start official marathon (18 week ) plan for Berlin.

Last few weeks (bearing in mind the drop due to issues with orthotics etc)

    week 1 - 4 runs - 11.8 m
    Week 2 - 2 runs - 7.1 m
    Week 3 - 3 runs - 14.6 m
    week 4 - 4 runs - 18.2 m
    Week 5 - 3 runs - 13.8 m
    Week 6 - 1 run - 4.1m
    Week 7 - 3 runs - 11.3m
    Week 8 - 3 runs - 8 m
    week 9 - 4 runs - 10.4 m
    week 10 - 3 runs - 13.7 m
    this week - 4 runs - 17.3 m

So i think I'm being sensible enough and that's all slow easy running. Now the plan is to start increasing the distance. 10k has been the furthest.
    22 weeks to go!!

Week 4 of Berlin Marathon Base building

    Week 29th April - 5th May
    Monday 29th April Cross training

While the eldest two were football training, myself and Laura went for a walk. Misty rain but lovely fresh evening. PF playing up by the end of it.
    2.02m in 31.30

Tuesday 30th - Rest, foot giving a bit of grief so rested it.

Wednesday 1st May - easy run
While Laura was warming up for her a Soccer match I did an easy run.

Nice hill to finish on but a change of scenery is always nice. Nice win for the girls 8 - 0

    Total 3.24m in 35 min @ 10.48

Thursday 2nd May - Decided to add a little variation to the easy run

While Mark was warming up for a Gaelic match I headed out the road and after a mile warmup, I decided to see if I could do 8.00 min pace for 2 mins and decided to do 4, 2 out, turn and 2 back with a mile cool done,
This went ok, the first one I was wheezing by the end of it which means it was too fast for my current level of fitness but after 2 mins cool down I gave it another bash and it was ok, except for the up hill finished that threw my time off. Overall they were manageable but no way I could hold them for much longer. Slightly longer cool down to round up the figures and arrived back to the match that had started and tensions were high as the two team are all school mates so pride was at stake. After a close encounter and a 2 point victory for our side, they all shook hands and were friends again
    The 4 x 2 mins were @ 7.56, 8.07, 7.55, 7.56

    Total 4.20 mile in 41.09 @ 9.47.

    Friday - Rest
I was contemplating a run on Friday but PF flared up again, not sure if its from the walk on Monday or the pounding of the speed work. Rest was the best decision.

Saturday 4th - Another Pitch and another easy run
While Laura was warming up for soccer match I ran around the MDL Grounds. They have put in a walking path and its perfect. Just short of a mile but does the job. Defeat for the girls 6 -0. Short run done and as I was headed straight to another pitch, a neighbour took Laura home. I was going be there for a few hours as county football trail were taking place. If I had know earlier I wouldn't have Laura, I'd have done a longer run but you know what it was lovely watching the emerging talent in Co Meath instead. M wont be going back as there were other trail he missed so maybe next year. At 6ft tall this 13 year needs to grow in to his extending body!!

    Total 3.21m in 32.50 @ 10.13

    Sunday 5th May - Shakeout & Stride

Just a few slow miles to ease out the body before 5k on Monday. At the 1 mile marker I decided to add a few strides, ended up with 7 as wasn't really counting them. They were for 25 sec, with walk back 30 sec, jog 30 sec recovery and @ 7.52, 7.46, 7.22, 7.12, 7.19, 7.14, 7.12. concentrated on form and enjoyed them.
Very warm out but then a cooling breeze on the way back was lovely.
    Total 3.12m in 34.06 @ 10.56

Total for the week 4 run 13.78m

No Pilates this week and weight stayed the same. Total loss to date 5lbs. Must try harder.

    EDIT:
My orthotics arrived back with lovely multi-coloured cover on them and I wore them on Saturday morning, Unfortunately by 2 miles in the familiar burn started especially in my left foot and the last mile was not nice. New approach required!!

Hang in there Anne. The PF sounds like a scourge but hopefully you are well on the way out of it.

Thanks D, managing it as best I can and hoping it will disappear soon. Think another trip for treatment is overdue.

    Monday 6th May - Royal County 5 k

So the coach at the club wanted me to set a marker before he finalised the marathon training plan for me so though better get it over with and see where I'm at. Family commitments ruled out the Irish runner 5k on Saturday so decided to do the Royal 5k in Kells on Monday. 20 mins from home, tshirt, and all for a €10. What more could you ask for, well maybe a flat route!!:D

On my way over to Kells, the Service light can on in the car with the message to Check the Injection System. I didn't realise it was a message for me as well as the car!!!

I was very nervous before this run and was trying to settle myself. I got there nice and early, collected the number, the too small tshirt :o(another one for the kids) and chatted with a few familiar faces. Headed back to the car and relaxed for half an hour. At 10.30 I went for a 1mile warm up and although the sun was shining there was a nip in the air. Back to the car to get ready and grabbed my gloves and then headed back tot the Race HQ at Headford hotel where thankfully there was no queue for the loo, as the 10k had started at 10.30 and the 5kers were headed for the start line. Used the facilities and then jogged to the start. I did my Myrtl routine to shake out the legs and the PF that I usually have for my first half mile had settled a bit after the warmup so that was good.

The heat was starting to build now and the gloves came off!!! Ended up carrying them as could see anyone to give them to and didn't want them going missing as they are a vital part of my gear!!

The race got underway without any problems and off we headed on the downhill start. I headed off and everyone around me seemed to be at the same pace but with half a mile I was on my own with a group ahead and a group a bit back, I didn't want to be isolated so moved to the group in front but then proceed to pass them and keep going. The first mile beeped in a t 8.29 and I was happy with that thinking I could maintain or push on. The second mile was along the bypass and although I was passing people all the time and I felt like I was getting faster, but a glanced at the watch and I see that it was getting slower. Just ignored the watch and ran by feel. 3km marker and I'm feeling ok but the pace is not getting quicker, however the breathing is good and I am running with good form. At the roundabout the 10k runner join us and this is a bit of a test as a few of then stop to walk and it plays with your mind.

Mile 2 beeps in at 8.57 and I think I want to keep all miles under 9 mins. We continue on the bypass and at the 3rd roundabout we turn left and head back into Kells along a long hill which saps the remaining energy out of the legs. I glance at the watch and its reading 9.20 but I pump and power up the hill as best I can. Mile 3 beeps in but I don't see its 9.01

I am expecting to continue straight and finish up a hill where we started but we are send right at Supervalu and I realise where the finish is and I just take off. There's a guys getting people to cross at the pedestrian crossing and they are following the path and then the crossing but I just diagonally cross the road when I see the route and by doing so pass 4 people and I power on and then the finish is slightly downhill and I'm flying. The last .1 was at 5.56. Garmin time is 26.59 but chip is 27.00 so that's where the current fitness is.

Initially I was slightly disappointed that I didn't get nearer the 26 zone like i did last December at the Turkey Trot, but then I realised how little training I've been able to do. 167 miles year to date isn't a whole lot so I'm happy with the result on analysis and will move forward and build again.

So hopefully the Injection system will sort itself out and be in tip top shape for the next run. The cars one seems to have sorted itself out after a frustrating spin on the motorway this morning

cuppa tea, chats and a mile cool down before heading home.

    Total for the day 5.4m

    Time for an Update!!

Week 5 of Berlin Marathon Base building

    May 6th - May 12th

    Monday 6th - Royal County 5k

    (Report above)

    Tue 7th & Wed 8th - Rest
My foot was very sore after the race on Monday evening and didn't really easy out until Thursday

Thursday 9th - 45 mins Easy & Pilate Class in PM
PF was still noticable during this run so kept it easy. Hamstrings were also a little tight but wasnt usrprised as its been a loooong time sine there was anything other that a slow plod.

    Total 4.10m in 44.50 @ 10.56

Instructor introduced Resistance bands in the Pilates class. Hhhmmmm
    fun !!??!!
At least the hamstring felt better after the class.

    Saturday 11th - 90 Mins easy

Headed out not sure how far I'd go but was hoping for 6m anyway at my new training pace set from he 5k race . Easy pace was to be 10.39 - 11.49. I decide to let the body decide and it settled into a nice easy rhythm. Did a turnabout at 45 mins and retraced my steps. 2 miles from home decided to add 2 miles @ marathon pace 9.55, half mile cool down to round it up. Longest run in 16 mths. delighted with myself. Thoroughly enjoyed that run except for the Midgets:eek:

    11.22, 11.22, 11.08, 11.08, 11.13, 11.16, 9.54, 9.45, 10.49(.50)
    Total 8.50m in 1.32 @ 10.53

    Sunday 12th - 3m Easy

Started this really slow and just let the body decide the pace again. Soon settled into it . Very hot & sunny but beautiful day
    11.43, 11.13, 11.11
    Total 3.15 in 35.44 @ 11.19

Total for the week 21.2 miles

Followed it up with a treatment and she gave me a full body workout, starting with the top of my head and worked right to my feet. There's something lovely in a weird way :eek:with getting sports massage, its very painful but its a good pain as you know it will help mend the body. Needles in both calves too as still tight and plenty of work on my feet. PF is hugely improved and should be seeing big difference over the next few weeks. I came out feeling great.

Very happy with how the week went and onward PG.
Weight stayed the same but I'm not focusing on it as there's so much going on with the kids etc, that I'm just taking it one day at a time and it will sort itself out over the coming weeks.

Week 6 of Berlin Marathon Base building

    13th May - 19th May

    Monday 13th - Rest

Tuesday 14th - 45 mins Easy & Pilates Class PM

What a fabulous day out beautiful sunshine. After Marty pointed out my high HR on easy runs I wanted to give it a bit of a check. I don't usually pay much attention to it as my regular route is quite hilly and once I hit the first hill the HR doesn't really settle back done.
So for this run, i went half a mile out the road as this was the lease hilly part and ran up and back this until i had 3m done and then went a bit further. HR data was much better and the max wasn't nearly as high as normal.

    Total 4.05m in 45.39 @ 11.15 .

    Wednesday 15th Rest

    Thursday 16th
    - Pilates Class, no running can't remember why but think i just didn't have time??

Friday 17th Navan AC 6km - Simon Cumbers & Paddy Hyland Run

I was thinking of not racing this but giving my new Threshold pace a go. I was with another club member and after chats and queues for the loos, we did a few laps and then headed for the start. There was 1 min of clapping to remember club runner Ena Tobin, that was tragically killed in a car crash a few weeks ago and her sister was running.

The race started and the beginning is on a narrow enough road so it was nice and handy. I was running by feel and within myself. I wanted to have a good run and not a suffer-fest  First mile beeped in a 8.39 which i didn't expect as i felt very comfortable. The second mile is a long sneaky drag and i could feel the pace here but just tried to stay with it and also be comfortable. Mile 2 beeped in a t 8.48 so i wasn't way off the first one. Again just tried to concentrate on the breathing and not going into wheezing mode. My club runner had gained a 50 m on me but i could see her and kept her in my sights.
Still feeling somewhat comfortable Mile 3 beeped in for 8.34.
As we came back past the start, the 5k marker was there and i knew it was time to pick it up for the last bit. I did this gradually and as we entered the track we had 250 m to run on the track before the finish gantry. I was flying now and let if all there for the last 150 m as i passed 3 or 4 runners to cross the line happy with the effort. Last .73m came in at 7.56 .

Chip time of 31.52 so was happy with that and Strava gave me a 5k time of 26.20 so faster than the previous 5k and i was feeling a lot more comfortable. So all the slow running is paying off the fitness is starting to return.
We forgot about our cool down and after chatting to so many people I haven't seen in so long it was 9.30 before we headed for the car. It was so cold that we had to run to it.
    Total for the day 5.10

    Saturday 18th - 60 min Easy

In Navan at MDL ground with Mark for Soccer so did a few laps. No issues after last night race so delighted.

    Total 5.50m in 1.02 @ 11.17

    Sunday 19th - 2 hrs easy
Wasn't really feeling the love for this run after been away all day so decided iI' do a few miles just to get the 4th run in and round up the weekly miles, but sure once i got i I was grand. Kept playing mind games and adding one mile at a time until i managed 2 hours . Delighted with this and the body was just getting tired but i really enjoyed it. Cold enough when i was finishing at 8.45pm

    Total 11.03m in 2.02 @ 11.06

    Total for the week 25.7m
Weight stayed the same again this week.

Very positive two weeks there! You've been so patient for so long it's great to see the approach paying off now and the fitness clearly improving. I could do with taking a leaf out of your book and getting back to the pilates myself :o

Thanks Guys. I bought new Positive pants in a much needed bigger size:eek: and fully intend on wearing them every day:D.

Week 7 of Base building didn't quite go to plan but we'll just call it a step back week.

Week of Monday May 20 - Saturday May 25th

    Monday May 20th - rest
I was pleasantly surprised the way the body held up after Sundays 2 hrs running. No DOMS and foot was good also.

    Tuesday - May 21 - 5m Easy
The 3rd pair of new orthotics arrived last Friday and decided to give them a whirl this evening, so headed off with old one in my hand. Beautiful sunny day and hot to go with it. Took it all nice and slow and managed to run the full 5m in my new orthotics without a peep from my feet.
    11.02, 11.22, 11.19, 11.13, 11.25

    Total 5.12m in 57.34 @ 11.14

Pilates that evening I found very tough and I was sweating quite a bit. I also had a sore back and it wasn't muscular.

So that was the only run and Pilates class for the week. I had a UTI so antibiotics for the rest of the week and a rest from running.

    Total for the Week 5.12m

And that concluded the Base Building for Berlin. 15 weeks with a few issues in the middle but with a total of 173.8 miles ran and the PF not gone but manageable.

18 week plan started Sunday 26th with a rest day:) my weeks will be running Sun - Sat for this plan.
