    Week 3rd - 9th April. (Continued . . .)

    Friday 7th April - 5m Easy run

A beautiful day in the park on my lonesome. I was enjoying the run so much and keeping it very handy, that i was contemplating continuing for another 5 and doing the longest run for the week but a received phone call during mile 5 put a stop to that. Had to head back to deal with a few things

    9.59, 9.55, 9.59, 9.59, 9.50, 9.43(.30)
    Total 5.30m in 52.38 @ 9.56/150

Saturday 8th April - Easy run

Plan had 8m session on it but everything conspired against me and I just couldn't get out for this, so at 8pm just before it got dark I got out for a short run, and I had the youngest with me. Run streak still intact - day 40.

    11.51, 11.41
    Total 2.01m in 23.38 @ 11.45/143

    Sunday 9th April - 10m Easy

Another very busy day and after 6 before I got out for this. I set out on my usual route and combined my 2 routes but it came in at 10.6 so, as you do I rounded it up (and over) to 11m. :D
The rain was threatening as I headed out but it stayed away and it turned out to be a cold sometimes sunny evening with strong wind at times. Tried to keep the pace nearer to 10min pace but gave up trying and after the first few miles just went with feel and never looked at the watch. Much more comfortable run. Plenty of hills to keep the HR high during this run.

    10.30, 10.06, 9.58, 10.04, 9.42, 9.44, 9.38, 9.36, 9.42, 9.36, 9.42, 9.39(.18)
    Total 11.18m in 1:50:00 @ 9.50/164

So considering this was the first week back into structured training it didn't quite go to plan but that's life when you have a family and 3 active kids.

I know this week theres going to be a bit of shuffling around the plan too as there's a few matches scheduled in!!

    WTD: 35.56m
    MTD: 47.41m
    YTD: 472.91m

    Run streak 41 day = 203.90m

Weight is stuck rigid at 163 so Im not going to worry about it but will keep an eye on it!!

    Week 10th - 16th April.

    Plan for the week
    Mon | Tue | Wed | Thur | Fri | Sat | Sun
    Rest| 5m Easy | Session 1 | 5m Easy | Rest | Session 2 | 10m Easy

    Session 1: 2 m easy, 5 x 2.0 mins @ 8.10 off 60 sec Rec, 4 x 30 sec hard, 60 sec rec, 2m Easy
    Session 2: 2m easy, 8 x 1 min hills hard, 3 min rec, 2m easy

Because I'm doing a Running streak, Active recovery on the rest day is allowed and this will be 20 mins - 3m very easy, whatever fits in best.
Switched things around a bit this week but all session and runs completed.

    Monday 10th April - 5m easy

Youngest at training with the girls football so I headed out for a very easy run. When i got to the crossroads instead of going left as usual i went right and headed along a different route. Turned again down a lane that's very popular with walkers and decided i'd run to the end and back. Longer than i realised so ended up back just in time for the end of training. Enjoyed this run so will do this route again.

    9.53, 9.27, 9.28, 9.31, 9.26, 9.10(.21)
    Total 5.21m in 49.39 @ 9.32

Tuesday 11th April - Easy Run
Had to travel down the country with work and so this was a late easy one as my hips were in bits after 350km round trip and sitting in the car for so long.

    10.24, 10.19, 10.14
    Total 3.14 in 32.23 @ 10.19/157

    Wednesday 12th April - Session 2 - 2m easy, 8 x 1 min hills hard, 3 min rec, 2m easy

I decided to swap the sessions and do this on the Khyber as not sure what hill at home to use that would have 1 minute running on it.

Tough session as haven't done hill reps in soooo long. Was struggling by the fifth one and walked the 3 mins recovery for them all. Started at the bollards at the bottom each time. The first one beeped to start as I was still running down the Khyber so just added a final one in at the end so was a little longer that the others as i didn't stop on time.

    9.52. 9.33,
    6.27, 6.33, 6.29, 6.33, 6.47, 7.03, 6.55, 7.12,
    10.12, 9.46, 9.36(.35)

    Total 7.20 in 1:18:46 @ 10.56/143

    Thursday 13th April - 10m Easy

Wanted to keep the format of the LR after the hills so got this done on an extended lunch break. Hips were feeling the effects of the hills but eased out after the first mile or 2. Did the first 3m with one of the girls from work and hips had eased out so continued on to get the 10m done.

    10.19, 9.57, 9.40, 9.55, 9.51, 10.02, 9.46, 9.37, 9.40, 9.33, 9.35(.24)
    Total 10.24 in 1:40:40 @ 9.50/162

    Friday 14th April- Recovery Run

hamstring still tight and the body sore everywhere, like i did a workout, which i suppose the hills were a workout but felt better after this run.

    11.22, 11.11, 11.11 (.22)
    Total 2.22 in 25.01 @ 11.16/149

    Saturday 15th April - Session 1 - 2 m easy, 5 x 2.0 mins @ 8.10 off 60 sec Rec, 4 x 30 sec hard, 60 sec rec, 2m Easy

The hamstring was tight setting off so decided i'd do the 2m easy and if ok to continue with the session. It eased out after the 2m so went ahead.
5 x 2 mins were fine and the 4 x 30 sec hard were hard!! The first one was flat out and the rest didn't measure up and it took a full mile before i recovered fully after them but enjoyed the session!!

    9.53, 9.45,
    8.05, 8.07, 8.08 ,8.04, 8.05,
    5.17, 5.21, 5.50, 5.42
    10.21, 9.40

    Total 6.35 in 1:01:22 @ 9.40/157

Sunday 16th April - Easy run

The hamstrigh slightly tight again this morning so decided to leave it as 5km instead of 5m as the hills weren't helping it. Much improved by end. Once its warmed up the hamstring is fine.

So that's the run streak for Lent finished. Total 48 days and 241.46m
Will decided tomorrow if i continue or rest the hamstring.

    Week 17th - 23rd April.

    Plan for the week
    Mon | Tue | Wed | Thur | Fri | Sat | Sun
    Rest| 4m Very Easy | Race 1500m | 4m Easy | Rest | Session 1 | 8m Easy

    Session 1: 2 m easy, 3 x 3.0 mins @ 8.10 off 60 sec Rec, 3 mins easy, 4 x 30 sec hard, 60 sec rec, 2m Easy

I'm still on my Running streak, so doing Active recovery on the rest days and this is 20 mins - 3m very easy, whatever fits in best.

    Monday 17th April
    Plan - Rest
    Actual - 3.25m Easy

After a lovely day out walking in Dalgan Park and on the Hill of Tara with the kids, i went out for a short one before dinner. Lovely evening out and I would have kept going but it needs to be kept short on these runs. Thankfully not a peep out of the hamstring, the hill walking must have stretched it out for me properly.

    9.53, 9.42, 9.33, 9.29(.25)
    Total 3.25m in 31.30 @ 9.42/150

    Tuesday 18th April
    Plan - 4m very easy
    Actual - 3.1m Easy Run

Another day wandering and picnicking with he kids. Headed North direction and went to Stephenstown Pond and then up over the border to Slieve Gullion Forest Park. What a fabulous place for big & small kids alike..the rain started as we got nearer t home and i decided i would run on the treadmill but as i got home the thoughts of running on the treadmill didn't sit well with me so it was 8.20 as I headed out. The rain stopped and it was a lovely evening again but I only manage 3m instead of the 4 that was on the plan as it was dark by then.

    10.26, 10.25, 10.18, 9.51(.10)
    Total 3.10 in 32.09 @ 10.22/158

    Wednesday 19th April
Plan - 2m warm up, strides, 1500m, cool down
Actual 1.3m warmup, strides, 1500m 1m cool down

Meath Track & Field League, Day 2

The club wanted as many as possible to turn up for this as after day 1 were were in second place 4 point behind first placed club in our category. Last year I hadn't the never to do this but this year I'm feeling a lot braver and decided I'd nothing to lose b giving it a shot.
So 2 of my kids were also competing and the youngone was up first in the u10 300m and although she is not 9 until December she was way taller than everyone else so was easy to pick her out. She started at the back because when anyone pushes she lets them by but she made u lots of places during the race and ended up in about 8 out of 15 so she was delighted with herself. then she headed off to the Javelin where i discovered she throws with her left hand even though she is right handed and she enjoyed it. While she was at this the younglad was up int he u13 600m. He was starting on the very inside and I was hoping he wouldn't get boxed in but he did well and had a good run and ended u with jelly legs so he gave it his all and finished mid-pack.

So while he kept an eye on the youngest I headed out the road for my warmup with 2 others. We were due to start at 8.30. We turned back after a bit and got back to track ata bout 8.20 and i was horrified to discover they were running ahead of schedule so stripped off, gave the gear to the kids and headed to the start. Manage a couple of strides while they were sorting out which order to run the races and it was decided to run all the Juniors, seniors & master women together so there was about 6 juniors, 3 seniors and 10 masters all lined up together.
Next thing we were off and the Juniors went haring off along with the 2 seniors and about 4 of the masters and i set in behind them. The first 300m went by in a flash and i was wondering what pain lay ahead as i couldn't see us keeping up this pace for anther 3 laps. I settled in a fast but steady pace but my breathing was fairly laboured (bit of a chest thing starting after a headcold all week) so I tried to steady it by taking a few big breaths.

One of my club mates had gone off too fast and she was slowing down and by the second laps a group of 3 of us passed her. 2 laps to go and there was a lady sitting on my shoulder and i was sitting on another clubmate's shoulder.

At the 600 to go mark the lady on my outside made a move to pass me but i upped the pace and she had to run wide to get by me but didn't have it so dropped back and sat in behind me.

I was now along side my other clubmate and I said 500m to go as i passed her and headed up the home straight. One lap to go and I'm now at the front of our pack of about 5 runners with the others strung out in front. As we rounded for the last lap, I moved away from our group but no one came with me so now i was out on my own. Down the back straight and I'm moving up through the gears and then coming around the final bend and I'm about to give it full welly but the I'm suddenly not sure if its another lap or last lap. . . . but I then remember stating 500m to go on the last lap so i give it welly.
I catch and pass the runner about 10m ahead of me and there's another one about 10m more ahead and I'm catching her and just as we reach the line I catch her but don't manage to get ahead.

She had stated she was a senior but declared on the line she was a Master, when she realised she would have been 3 senior but 1st Master. Its all tactics when it the league and there's points at steak. So 2nd Master for me and I was delighted with the way the race went. I forgot to stop my watch and working back from other results we reckon it was 6.10ish, but looking at my Garmin and cadence/pace it might have been 6.08 but it doesn't matter. So I've no idea how that fits in with times for my proper category but might get another chance later in the year.

For such a short race I had a bit of a headache last night which i know was from eyeballs out running in the last 200m. :D

After a chat with the others and cheering on the lads in their races i headed of for 4 laps of the track for a cool down with my little Miss, while the others headed for the Discus competition, which then had to be cancelled as it was too dark and the lights were not picking up the discus as it left the cage so too dangerous for the officials out on the throw area.

Very satisfied with my nights running and I would definitely go again.;) #trackfairyinthemaking!!

    Total for the night 3.32m

Well done, Anne. Track sounds like lots of crack. You definitely have a competitive streak in you.

I'm sure it's not kosher to change category after the race. You are entitled to know who you're racing against. So well done on the win. :D.

Yeah that sounds bonkers that she was allowed to do that, name and shame the club!!! (Hope it wasn't us ) Sounds like you enjoyed it and you won't let anyone away the next time around :D Congrats!

Fantastic stuff, Anne! What a great race, loving the competitive streak ;). More track races and reports please! Leinster Masters in 6 weeks, just sayin'....

Super report Anne. For some reason, as I was reading your report, all I was thinking was "hamstring - not now". Glad you made it in fine style and great that the kids show so much interest in giving it a go as well.

Thanks Snailsong track certainly is great crack, but really depends on what your definition of crack is!!;) As for changing category, as its a league they don't take your name or category, just the club name at the end!! And I suppose as we were all running together we were all racing against each other.

Every race you learn something and yes i may have to go a bit sooner next time, if i can!!! I Don't know what club she was as i didn't recognise the shirt, could have been one of her own.

Competitive streak probably has been buried in their since i was a kid . Leinsters  don't think I'm anywhere near any standard for that yet. Going to give the Meath Championship a bash first in a couple of weeks and take it from there.

Denis, Thankfully the Hamstring behaved itself and never crossed my mind, it was the stomach i was thinking might make an appearance as i came up the home straight!!
Yes the kids enjoy it but didn't like the jelly legged feeling at the end(who does??), but it might get easier as they get older and more use to it!!

    Week 24th - 30th April

I've been very busy with work so haven't had a chance to catch up on all the logs or posts in the last 10 days. I'm cheating now and just copying & pasting from my training log!! But all he details are there in a readable format!! Work will be manic for the next 4 - 6 weeks too bu hoping to get all my runs in. For my run streak reckon saturday week will be my biggest challenge as youngest is making her First Communion and I'm not an early morning person!!!! We shall see!!! :)

    Date |Plan | Actual| Time | Splits/Pace |Distance |Comments
Monday 24-Apr |rest | 3m easy run | 0:31:46 |10.37, 10.29, 10.12 | 3.05 | after 8.30 when i got out and I nearly didn't go but close to my previous running streak total so went out for a short one and them really enjoyed it. It was bitter cold and i had three layers on me and was still cold|

Mile 4 was into a very tough headwind on Acres rd, adjacent to the Kyber so was uphill too and i just couldn't up the pace so just plodded on, last bit was back in the sunshine and was much better. we were comical heading out, i had long leggings, jacket and gloves, the next one had open jacket & 3/4 lengths, the 3rd one was in shorts & short sleeved t-shirt!! i was glad f my jacket & gloves when in the strong wind.
Wednesday 26-Apr|Session |1m easy, 2m @ HMP, 4 mins easy, 5 x 45 secs hill off 2 mins rec, 2m easy| 2m easy | 0:24:19 10.25, 10.22, |2.34| very busy in work and ended up working through lunch and then late too. 8.20pm before i got home so just headed out for a short one, did one hill rep to see if I could get 45 sec out of it, got 55 sec @7.09, don't know if i could do too many of these
Thursday 27-Apr | 5m easy | Session 1m easy, 2m @ HMP, 4 mins easy, 5 x 45 secs hill off 2 mins rec, 2m easy | 1:07:38 |9.59, 7.55, 7.49, 6.17, 6.50, 6.46, 6.40, 6.28, 10.15, 9.56, 9.56(.40)| 7.03 |found it hard to get a rhythm going for the first mile @ hmp and then it felt very fast. but it settled down for the 2nd one. For the hills I had to do them from Halfway up the Khyber as the Deer were grazing on both sides of the path and i was afraid they'd run across into my path. But still found them tough. First one was too fast and form went to pot so the rest were not just as fast and concentrated on form as Coach had instructed. Took the long way back to work.
Friday 28-Apr | rest |5m easy |0:49:07 |9.40, 9.46, 9.42, 9.32, 9.53| 5.06 |easy run, late getting out again but managed to squeeze the 5m in!! Body very tired but felt better as i ran.

So last year I managed a Run streak of 60 days and today was day 61 so very happy with that. I'm following my training from Coach 5 days and just doing short runs on the rest days, 2 & 3m no further.

    Sunday 30th April
    5m Progression Run

So between Girls U16 Football Semifinal(ye they won) and potting flowers that needed potting and feeding the tribe it was after 6.30 when i set off in the rain for this run. I had a cap and my gloves on and a long sleeved t-shirt. The gloves never came off as it was cool enough.

Instructions were 5m Progression, easy - HM but by feel. So started off easy on the first mile but it was coming in too fast so pulled it back a bit so that I'd have a proper pace to progress from!

This felt grand throughout and I ran by feel but then the last mile felt quite tough but just kept it going. But I did have the thought that i'd couldn't do 13.1m at this pace but just dismissed it as that always happens during training!!

I had gone a little further than the 5m so i wouldn't have to do the last half mile which is a long horrible climb, not high but long. So this was done at easy pace as a cool down.

    April Round up
And so another month comes to a close and looking forward to the Summer months ahead!!! A relatively quite month for me and just 1 park run and the Master 1500m debut on the track. I actually enjoyed this so going to give another one a go in the Meath Championships in 2 weeks. If i could run & pace like the first one I'd be happy enough. No idea what to expect re numbers & pace of field but willing to give it another go.

April finished out with a Total of 149 m and the run streak is still going. April 30th made it 62 days and 305.49m. This is my longest to date and will keep it going until a genuine reason stops me from running and not just a couldn't be bothered evening.

The body is in good nick and the monthly maintenance massage is catching any niggles that could turn into a potential injury. One thing i need to improve on is the S&C and strethching.

    Recovery Run

Beautiful warm sunshine this morning for this run. Kept it very easy and let the body dictate the pace, slow up the hills and slow down the hills, felt great after it. Would have loved to keep going in this beautiful weather.

    Plan 4m Easy Run

A late dinner before we left for Football & soccer training and so i couldn't run while kids were training so therefore 8.30 when I got out for this afterwards. Big drop in Temp after the lovely sunshine all day. Out & back nothing exciting during this, stopped to chat to a neighbour for a couple of minutes.

    Wednesday 3rd May
    Session 1 - warm up, 4 x (600m (2.30 target) off 90 sec rec, 200m (45s target) 4 min between sets, cooldown

Got delayed when i was heading out for this but had to get it done as Son had football match later. I made a mistake of not knowing what my target time equated to in pace so the first set was too fast, the 2nd a bit better and the 3rd one was much better but pulled up too soon on the 200, and the 4th one was into a headwind and I couldn't push anymore to get inside target. Very happy overall with the session as its been a looong time since doing sessions like this.

Beautiful sunshine out today and I could have done with a drink during this session as the sun dried out my lips really badly. And it was hot!! Did this from Phoenix roundabout back towards North road, from Bollards to ramp is 600m perfect with virtually no traffic!!! Standing recovery of 90 sec after the 600 and walked/ jogged the 4 mins back tot the start for the 600s

    Target for 600 was 2.30 and 200 was 45

    Week 1st - 7th May (continued)

    Thursday 4th May
    Plan 3m Easy
    Actual 3.25m easy

I met up with the fabulous Ososlo at her loop on the Acres road and ran a few laps and chatted for the 3m. It was very windy in places. The Body was good after yesterdays session!!

Only disappointment about this run was that it was too short, i did think about doing my 8m long run for the week but though after yesterday session that would be foolish!! Will definitely be doing a longer run with Ososlo next time( but not one of her mad long, long, loooonnng runs:D

    Total 3.25 in 33.13 @ 10.13

    Actual short easy run

A short easy run after the youngest played her first football match with the girls u10.

    Total 2.71 @ 10.13

    Saturday 6th May
    Plan Session
    Actual Recovery run

A long busy day at a funeral and it was either no run or the treadmill, but when it came to it I just couldn't get on the treadmill and hubby said it was lovely out to go over the back road, so I set out at 9.36pm and I said I'd do just the one mile but ran over and back a few times to bring it up to 2m. That's the minimum distance I've run in this run streak!!! And it was a beautiful evening, dark but beautiful!!

    Sunday 7th May
    Plan 8m Easy
    Actual 4m slog

So another long busy day with the family, Sons first Meath Championship event following by daughters U16 Cup final, which they lost by 1 point!! Lots of sunburn on my neck as i forgot to put suncream on it. I put it everywhere else and on everybody else but forgot my own neck!!:o

I had planned on doing yesterdays missed session today but discovered that i can't do the 1500m race next week so was heading out for the 8m instead.
So headed out for 8m easy but by 1.5m my stomach was in a hoop, tried to keep going but at 2m mark it was painful & very uncomfortable. Walk back with running to keep from getting too cold as i was in shorts & vest and it was getting cooler. Tummy settled down about a couple of hours after the run. just something dodgy i ate!!

    10.15, 10.23, 11.59, 11.51
    Total 4m

So that was a bit of a disaster of a week but we'll take it as Stepback week!!!:D

    Weekly total 25.78m

So as I mentioned above I wont be doing the Meath Masters 1500m afterall. On Sunday while at the Juveniles Meath Championships with my son, I discovered that the Masters 1500m is not on in Navan as I thought, but in Clones in Monaghan.

The Meath Championship is being combined with the Cavan Championship and been called the Setanta Games. Its to get more competition in the races so better numbers. A great idea except its too far for me to travel for one event, when the family have plans for the afternoon. I had hoped to pop to Navan do the race and be back home to collect family. Plus side is I can enjoy my daughters Communion on Saturday without worrying about my food & drink consumption:D

    So back to 10k training!!

    Week 8th - 14th May

    Monday 8th
    Plan Rest
    actual 5.5m Easy

Trying to get a head start on the weeks training so weekend is free from long runs & sessions etc so got this done after I got home from my Son football match. Lovely run but body a little tired after a long day standing yesterday.

    Tuesday 9th May
    Plan Session
    Actual 2 junk miles

2 junk miles on the treadmill. I had headache from Late morning that got progressively worse so didn't get out. Took meds when i got home a bit early from work. Went to bed for a couple of hours. When i got up i decided i wasn't running but kids told me i had to go!! they are more worried about my run streak!!! so this time I had no problem getting on the treadmill to do 1 m but as usual did 2 instead.

    Wednesday 10th May
    Plan Session - warm up, 4 x 3 mins @ 10k pace off 80 sec, 3mins easy,
5 x 30 sec Hard off 60 sec rec, cool down

Thankfully when I got up this morning the headache was gone!! So late morning I set off down the main road in the beautiful sunshine and feeling abit worried about the pace and the heat but it was all fine!!:D

I did 1.5m warm up and then set off into session. First rep at 10k pace started off too fast but the other 3 were there or there abouts . For the 5 x 30 sec fast I though the first one was the fastest but i was obviously cautious not to leave myself wrecked. Felt good ding these and not hanging on for any of them!!

    Thursday 11 May
    Plan 10m Easy

Wow what a Beautiful sunny morning. Left the car in for a Valet and headed off on roads I don't know too well.

The first 1.5 miles were in the dead heat and i though it was going to be a tough slog, but turned at a junction and there was a lovely cooling breeze and some shelter from the sun in parts. Stopped off at the football pitch at about 6 mile to get fresh cold water from the outdoor tap!!

I made up the route as I went and had a few different alternatives but felt that they would measure short so was delighted when i hit the 10m just up from where i had to collect the car. Fab run and could have kept going!!

Denis its a good one and I enjoyed it, but I'm strange in that I like all the sessions. Love the variety of them.

My youngest is keeping tabs on me for the streak and tells me that I have to run and asks me when I get home from work if I've done my run!!

    Week 15 - 21

Monday 15th May - Easy run

I was due in Rathkenny as young lad had a Challenge match and we had to be there well before kickoff so i arranged with another mum to go for an easy run.

However we didn't know the road except that it was a quite country road. It was a very hilly route. (I was told after the hill is a full mile long!!!)

It was tough but we took it easy. We had to run into a strong headwind at times but it was a warm enough evening so this was very cooling!! I enjoyed the company and the run and the change of scenery. I'll definitely do that route again. Hills make you stronger! Got back in time for the second half of the match.

    May 16th - Session 8 x 400 off 70 sec rec

The youngest one is running in the Meath Championships next week so time to get her back to the club. Wasn't sure whether to do my Wed session or an easy run. We have a 1 km circuit around the soccer pitch and the adjoining football grounds so the plan was (after warmup and drills), 1 lap easy followed by 4 x 750(football pitch section) @ 3k to 5k pace, with recovery of 1 lap of soccer pitch. So i set off with them to do that. But i got myself all confused:confused: as i felt like i was running fast but watch was showing 10.xx pace and my stomach started heaving so i was going to drop to an easy pace, when i had a lightbulb moment:p , yep wrong screen on display, so lapped the watch after 400 m and decided to do my own session.

Pity i didn't decide this at the start as i had it programmed into the watch and would have been more accurate.

So the first rep came in waaaay too fast as damage was done before I discovered i was on the wrong screen .

The next one was too as i couldn't get a feel for the pace as the ground was uneven and stony in places, not great for a session really. And there was a kids match on so lots of cars and some lazy feckers parked right along the end line giving us very little room to get by them. (Kids were playing on the Juvenile pitch at the bottom of the site and we run to the end around the juvenile pitch and back along the adult pitch across the carpark, through a gateway and onto the soccer pitch)

I had 7.30 in my head as the pace but then realised after 5 reps that it was 7.20 aim so managed to get the last 3 back on target but the reps are all over the place. A bit of a mess overall.

So 400 aim was 1.50 which equates to 7.20 pace

    Distance| Pace| Time
    .25| 6.47| 1.42
    .27| 7.10| 1.57
    .25| 7.32| 1.52
    .25| 7.28| 1.50
    .25| 7.34| 1.52

Wednesday 17th May - Meath Seniors Ladies Relay2
    4 x 100m & Medley - (2 x 200m, 1 x 400m, 1 x 800m)

So at training Tuesday night and they had 3 interested in doing the Meath Championship Ladies relays the next night but needed a 4th. I just can't say No!! 0 Anyway something different and couldn't let them down. I had a dentist appointment at 6 in Ardee so told them id be there by 8 which should give plenty of time.

I arrived at 7.45 and was told that they were running the uneven ages, then the Juniors & Seniors 4 x 100 and then the kids even ages. So I only had time for a 1.5m warmup as we needed to do baton practice. I did a few drills on the last half mile of the warmup and a few stretches back at the track.

Thankfully we had 1 member who knew what she was doing!! So we did a bit of changeover practice. first one for me and the baton goes flying nearly taking the head off two men standing outside the railings(we were in lane 8)0. Next few much better!! My changeover to the anchor was not very good at first but we eventually got it right

Then as it was getting very late they decided to run the rest of the kids races after the Men's Juniors & seniors 4 x 100. When we eventually got called it was 9.45!! We were in Heat 1, lane 1. and it was over in a flash!!! All changeovers went smoothly and we got around finishing in 3rd place in our heat but I don't know overall finishing spot yet.

Then the men's medley and we were up again in our medley.

It was the 200 or 800 leg for me and the other girl had done the schools Leinster's earlier that day in Santry and had run in the mile so I was being foolish nice and said I'd do the 800.

There were 9 teams so they let us all run together instead of creating 2 heats and it was 10.15pm at this stage . The first 3 legs went smoothly and the baton was passed to me in either 5th or 6th, can't remember how many I counted at the change over but think it was 6th. The girl in front of me was away like a hot s0xt and there was no way I was going to catch her so just concentrated on good form and getting around in one piece. At 300m had the fleeting though that I was going too fast and would never hold it and my pace did drop a bit here.

Coming over the line with 1 lap to go and I was wishing to God I had let the other girl do the 800!!! this was hurting and my lungs were burning. Then I heard the shout outs for me and it really helped. I could see that the girl who had been in front of me had passed someone but she was still 80 m ahead of me .

So the focus became not to get passed, but from the shouts I knew there was someone getting close enough to me and on the last bend I glanced to my left and could see out of the corner of my eye the next runner was about 10m behind me!! Well she wasn't getting by me and although I though I had nothing left I tore down the finishing stretch and left her for dust!!!000 Turned out to be Mary Watters from Navan AC who is a sub 20 5k runner so was delighted to realise I held her off( joked with her after it was the only time I'd finish ahead of her and omitted to mention the 80m head start I had on her!!

Looking at the Garmin connect, my pace had dropped to 6.21 but managed to get it back up to 5.23 in the final push. I managed to hit a top sped in the first lap of 4.41 but overall average for the 800m was 5.30. I'm delighted with that and can't imagine the guys who do marathons at this pace!!!

Got to the car and was going to head straight home as I thought they'd be locking up fairly swiftly but then I saw the aforementioned doing her cooldown laps with another woman so I joined them for 2 laps and did 2 more myself arriving home at 11.20 pm!!! My lungs were burning all night but are much improved today!!

Another new experience for me(as a Master) Over 30 years since I ran in a relay before!!0

    800m (.53m) in 2mins .55(not official) @ 5.30 pace

    warmup & cool down 2.63m

Hope the recovery is going well and the rest is not driving you demented.

It was good fun D and the adrenalin was buzzing after the 4 x 100, not as much after the Medley as we were getting very cold and tired(and hungry) but fun never the less. There was quite a few people there doing their first ever track event so we kept each other company!!

Oh D pain was in abundance in the 800 but think the endurance I've built up helped me to hang on!! And the fact knowing that it would all end very soon. I was telling my friend who was doing her first ever track(for another club) to just threat it like a 3min rep in her speed work!!

A, yes Speedy for me but not speedy in terms of the track fairies that were flying around the track, but its all relative!!

Well done Anne!! That's brilliant :) It's great to try these team events I think - puts a whole different perspective on our running.

That's for sure AM and I couldn't say No when I knew they had 3 that wanted to do it. And I was even happier when I found out later that its the first time an adult team has been entered in the Meath Championships, small country club so glad to do my bit!!

Thursday 18th May - Easy Run

Very stiff when I got out of the car after 75 min journey home from work and then an hour sitting in the stand at the football match left the body feeling tired and creaky. I did think of taking a rest but decided an easy run would be better.
So 9pm when I headed out on the usual back road for 4m easy. Body was tired starting off but fine when finishing.

    Total 4.15 in 41.42 @ 10.00 avg pace

Later while sitting with feet up watching Primetime, my left calf went into spasm with a cramp and 30 seconds later my right calf did the same and I was left in agony and unable to move. Eventually got to a standing position and my daughter rubbed out the rock hard calves enough so I could shuffle around the room. Put a heat pad on them and took a water bottle to bed and they were fine.

However they were still sore and tight getting up this morning and the calf guards are helping but I still have tightness in them and so my body is giving me the signal to end this run streak and take a well earned rest.(unless there's a huge improvement by this evening;))

As informed by my 14yr old, Cramp is the build up of lactic acid in the muscle from overuse!!!:(
