Do you go all out trying to please the people you know in the month of December or are you a cost effective type of person?

    In other words, about €3.50

I'll always try to buy something I think they'll like. Some are very hard to buy for, then only then will I buy a voucher so they can decide themselves.

In terms of how much, depends on how they're related to me. I spend more on anyone close to me.

I tend to buy them things that they would by for themselves if it was not the most expensive time of the year and they not so busy looking after everyone else.

Ok well all responses so far are taking the piss... so I'll be the first to answer truthfully.

About 15 euro for each family member, shur the best part is the dinner and bottles of beer/wine.

Six presents this year (mother, father, sister, girlfriend and two others) cost me 220E so 35-40E each on average.

Way too much :( Buy for 3 nephews, 3 siblings, 2 siblings-in-law, 2 friends, mother, stepdad and stepbrother. Will be spending about €550/600. Luckily I just broke up with my boyfriend a few weeks ago or that'd be another few hundred!

You should have waited until after Christmas and got a decent present of him.

We do Kris Kindle so I used to only have to buy two presents in total, worked out about 100euro. Now i have a boyfriend and his family to buy for too. So I'd say I'm gonna spend 300-400.

There is 18 people in total in my family. So we decided instead of getting a sh1t load of cheap presents, we'd get one decent present instead . Works out great for us. So I do "have a grip".

I don't know if I'm even gonna buy any presents this year.

I don't do all the big hype about christmas and Valentines Day.
Christmas is just like any other day to me.

60-80 on the parents each. Do kris kindle with OH's siblings & their partners & limit is 30. 30-40 on each of my 6 nieces & nephews, 30 on each of my sisters & their partners. So about 500-550 euros in total. This is aside from all the other Christmas sh1t we have to buy like extra food, tree, decorations etc. This is the first year in 5-6yrs we haven't had to get a loan, I've been setting it aside for months!

If we still have a bit of money left over we might get each other something but very often make do with a 20 euro "token" present to open Christmas morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,641 ✭✭✭Teyla Emmagan

Let me see. Only have 4 to buy for and made a christmas cake and a pudding for another 2. And a couple of small gifts. Still reckon I'm at 350/400 though.

Horrific money really. But I started in July so the bigger gifts were paid for months ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

€0.00. I buy nobody presents and they are encouraged not to get me anything.

About €400 this year, I think. Have a lot of people to buy for, so some people get smaller presents than others. But I'll never buy a present for someone unless I think they'll really like it. Cheap or expensive!

More than a thou, but less than a thousand.

Probably something like 150e, which tbh is more than enough for a student with no job. Got presents for my parents, sibling, boyfriend and two aunts- job done!

    Around 1500 euro

    Just over 2k. What recession?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,775 ✭✭✭✭kfallon

Niece and nephews are easy to buy for, family are nightmares cos, like me, we don't really care about presents but we buy each other stuff anyway.

I buy something I know they'll like, sometimes I might ask brothers and sisters is there anything they want cos no point in buying something that a) they won't like or b) they already have.

How much each present costs doesn't come into it tbh, I'm not a tightarse (may have something to do with my late night self fingering tho :pac:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,010 ✭✭✭ringadingding

There will be 18 of us for xmas day this year.
Kris Kindle here too, one decent gift with a max of 100 per person, names out of a hat.

But theres 3 kids who will get a small gift from everyone I think.

I estimate we spent 3-400 on my daughter, but a chunk of that was getting a 3ds, yeah I know, i'm spoiling her. But shes a good kid.

I saw you posted, I was expecting a story about one of your ex boyfriends who got you a sh1te present and how you got the better of him by letting everyone know how bad he was in bed or similar. You must have a good story about this

Just for my wife. She does all the presents .......... I find I get a migraine just thinking about it. But she goes a bit gaga as she loves the whole hype :o. I don't ask but would safely say about a grand.
