Another good nights lamping

I brought poulo6.5 out on my stomping ground for a bit of foxing last night. Unfortunately poulo forger his mod, so he couldn't use the 243 as it would have woken half the parish. So on we went with my 223. I let poulo have first blood since he was the guest, and he wasn't long about dispatching a red fella. He did say that he wasn't comfortable with my rifle and decided to work the lamp after that. As the night progressed we met a few more foxes, some were lamp shy, but luckily 3 stood long enough for me to take care of them. I gave the rifle back to poulo for another shot and he got another before we finished. I took photos of the 3 I shot, and I think poulo took photos of one of the foxes he shot, I can't remember if he took one of the second one. So poulo when you read this will you put up what ever photos you took last night.
    Here's the foxes I shot

All of the foxes were shot with 53gr superformance, and there wasn't even a wiggle out of any of them. I was quite surprised to see no exit wounds on any of the foxes, which surprised me since the 55gr v-max usually leave a big hole. But I guess this means that the 53grainers are totally breaking up inside the fox, which I'm guessing is why they are such a good killing round

They're left in the nearest ditch to return to the food chain

Fox call uk, but we hardly needed it, only used it to get them to stop. We walked up on most of them. They were all hangin around the fields

That would explain the smell I get on my country walks, then !!! From a later post it sounds like you're tripping over them almost. In the 70's the ould brush used to net me a few bob.
Do you ever think you'll see the day, like me, when you'll just admire them from a distance ? Took a while for the trigger finger to relax I admit.
Are there many lads at it now ?

As its the hunting forum probably the wrong place to ask. Nature and Bird Watching forum may be a better forum for that discussion.

No way to be sure how many actively shoot foxes. Most gun clubs, and lads with permissions do it as part of vermin control on the lands they shoot. Also depends on fox numbers in an area. If they are plentiful, and causing problems/damage then they need to be culled. If not, and there are no complaints from the land owners chances are they are not actively hunted.

Its each shooters choice as to the amount they shoot.

    thanks ezridax.
i live in an area with a high population of foxes, and since i'm the only one in my club that actively engages in vermin control i get called to shoot a lot of foxes. i don't mind because i enjoy it
poulo couldn't believe the amount of foxes we saw in such a short space of time, but like i said to him the other night, he might live in deer country but i live in fox country.

    to mattser.
i never said i don't admire foxes. i've often spent hours just watching them hunt and play on long summer evenings.
i think they're amazing survivors, and i admire them for it, and i'm glad their numbers are so strong here because it keeps me busy:D
