I wonder what will happen in the normal weeks when this whole thing is live. I think I will miss the fighting over food/pissing on beds reality-show stuff. You kinda get to familiarise yourself with fighters that way.

They'll have the reality TV stuff too. They'll have highlights of what happened in the house that week and then the fight at the end!

By the way, if that Cochrane lad was as good a Porn Actor as he is a fighter, i'm not surprised nobody bothered watching his movies! What a terrible fight!

Yeah there won't be any cockraining on oglers, ticklers or fisters. Looked like a fairly normal guy with a very journeyman fight game.

So much talk of Codey McKenzie I had to google him. He was the big lanky Alaskan guy who looks like an Anon mask! Weird show. And it's running over by nearly twice its alloted time slot :pac:

Here's the Irish guy! Ole Ole Ole!

At the time McKenzie was on the show, he had a record of something like 8 wins and 7 of them were Rd.1 Guillotine chokes!

OH!!!!! That toe is nasty! It actually looks like it's broken off (it hasn't, but it looks terrible!)

I was looking but couldn't see the infamous toe. Was it dislocated or what's the story?

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,164 ✭✭✭✭MrStuffins

......... i;m guessing you just saw that there?

    Nasty!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 786 ✭✭✭Kurz

Ah sure if Bob Sapp's foot came off he'd pick it up and hit you over the head with it.

Will the first episode be repeated on ESPN?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,432 ✭✭✭✭El Guapo!

Only got around to watching this now. Glad I taped it, all those ads would've done my head in.
    That toe was nasty!
Looking forward to this season. I like the whole live fight idea. At least that way the editing won't make it obvious who won like in all the other seasons.
Disappointed for Ali, I thought we'd get an Irishman in the house this year.

Looks like there are some good fighters in this season. The Brazilian, Chiesa and the taekwondo/wrestler fella look good!! Only bad things are Jon Anik wrecks my head commentating and the coaches seem a bit dry.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,426 ✭✭✭Roar

the coaches seem a bit dry.

It seems they genuinely don't like each other. Check out this, where they watch their last fight with John Anik in the middle.

Should be good for some fireworks over the next few months

I really hope Urijah wins this.

Only really got to see Urijah fight just before his bout against Cruz.

Seems like a straight up genuine dude and, IMO, one of the nicest people in the UFC along side JDS.

I've seen every season and from day one they have been tinkering with a successful formula, now I think its gone too far. I didn't enjoy the live show. I thought there was something wrong with the sound for the first two or three fights. The three lads "commentating" isn't going to work as far as I can see. They clearly need a play by play man.

I thought it just looked bad, sounded worse and lacked the usual excitement which goes with the beginning of a new season of TUF.

Had to laugh at some of the delusional fighters though, some guy who's already lost 1/3 of the fights he's been in calling himself "the king of pain" or some s**t.

i had mixed feelings about it.
1 round a fight was brilliant though. i enjoyed the no commentry and the lack of teammates shouting advice like in other tufs.
while the dana, dom, cruz talk was strangly absent, very quiet or boring some of it was interesting when they talked about who they had trained with or dana critisizing them.
im not sure the the last few seasons ratings took a nose dive didnt they? they needed to change it up

I'd lost interest by the end tbh. Had it in the background and glanced up when something interesting appeared to be happening.

But even Jon Anick said on the ESPN UFC Podcast that people would need to kinda go with it for a couple of episodes before they started to see the true benefits of the changes. So I'll trust that they have their **** together. To be fair, last night was a bit of a prototype episode and I'm sure they'll iron the kinks. I won't go writing it off just yet.

Well I wouldn't write it off. Sure all the other episodes will be totally different. Highlights of the traning and house and only a few fights live which will be more rounds

I liked it. And I think the live fights add 2 things. Firstly, the added excitement of the fight being live and secondly, those editing the show won't be able to edit in such a way as to spoil the result.

Also, the show has been stale for a while, it can't get much worse

The best thing is we won't have people saying "They're showing Christian Marcello a lot on the T.V so he must be going through". It was pretty predictable when they pre-taped and you could find a leak pretty much anywhere if you wanted to.
I watched a Youtube video of a highlight from last season and it gave away that Brandao and Dillashaw were in the final in the comments. This was 4 episodes away from the end of the show.

to be perfectly honest it needed commentary. Especially with them being on FX and trying to bring in new fans to the sport, they needed someone commentating on the action to explain what was going on. For long stretches of the night there was just silence - 16 fights with no commentary wasn't a great idea tbh

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,432 ✭✭✭✭El Guapo!

None of the other seasons had commentary though. I don't think Dana and the lads were there to commentate but rather to get their reactions to seeing the fighters for the first time. Anyway that was only the first episode and from now on there'll be the coaches in the corners shouting instructions as per usual.
I personally liked the episode and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

none of the other seasons had 16 fights in a row on a new network either. it's ok for one fight, but not for that length of time IMO.

This. It was the one thing that really annoyed me about previous seasons of TUF
