learned a lot of specialist martial arts things generally not known in the western world

Hahaha thats a wind up right? Gave me a chuckle anyway :)

I tried Kickboxing, Taekwondo, Wing Chun, Bujinkan and MMA before finding Muay Thai.

Now I just train Muay Thai as I found it to be far superior to everything except MMA. MMA was fun but I perfer the striking from Muay Thai plus there is none of the 'dim mak' and bowing nonsense that comes with a lot of martial arts. Oh and none of that 50e per belt shenanigans either

Koryu Uchinadi Kenpo-jutsu is a modern interpretation of Okinawa's historic combative-like disciplines.

John Kavanagh the owner of SBG Ireland posts on here as SBG Ireland. Maybe you can send him a PM and he'll get back to you faster.

Hmm been a long while since posting in this forum.

Like everyone interested in Martial arts should I tried a bunch of arts and settled on what I liked. These are
    • Wado-Ryu Karate, which I've been doing since I was a teenager across a few different federations.
    • Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu which I really enjoyed but had to put on hold for the last few months due to college and uncertainty over hours available to train. I'll be returning to this in the new year to a different club that suits my times.

In college I trained in some of these, some of which I'd like to return to.
    • Brazilian Jiujitsu, I'd love to return to this. Will check club recommendations posted around here for info.
    • Kick boxing, great for fitness though not really my thing.
    • Shotokan Karate, really just done as an addition to my wado-ryu training.
    • Judo, was interesting though I've taken to Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu instead.

SBG are offering free training for the whole month of January to anyone interested in getting started. I'd highly recommend you head down to either the longmile road or city centre gym and avail of this offer.

Isn't the free training just in the Longmile Rd. gym?

In fairness, that depends on what your into. Just because you don't agree with the traditional stuff doesn't make it "nonsense".

Yep, 100% its just my opinion. I don't want to threadspoil so without getting into a long winded debate on the merits and downsides of eastern culture and values.

Respect - Very important, for the teachers, students and the practitioner.

Tradition - Fine as long as it doesnt impede the development of the art.

History - Important and valid as long as its very clear that its being taught for the sake of history

However in my opinion "death punches" or strikes where you don't make contact but you attack their chi or whatever is all nonsense.

In the past it was Tae Kwon Do for about four years, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for about a year and at the moment it's Kyokushin Karate. Being doing that bout year and a half now. W=In the future would like to give wrestling a try.
