Actually, Alt+3 doesn't work in OS X. Found that out when I gave iOS development a go.
You did something wrong, just pressed it, guess what...# :pac:

You're forgetting to add something like the €270 (£229.99) cost of Windows 7 Ultimate to the bill, Macs come with OSX on them - which are not limited to different "versions" so a fair comparison would be the cost of Win7 Ultimate. All the software that comes preloaded as well.

And if you're talking about actual PC's.. You can't argue with this tbh.

Well, I could argue about this. Such a biased picture, a lot those peripherals such as webcam, microphone are built into monitors these days. I like Macs but If I had the money I'd rather spend it on a top of the range thinkpad - the build quality is far superior to the apple alternatives.

Sure even the macs have wireless keyboards and mice.

Clearly Sony are the winners here.

Nope, with Sony the mess is on the inside. They're the worst of all manufacturers for the bloatware crap they pre-install on their products. A fresh install of windows 7 is about 35-40 processes on boot, I've seen Sony's with ~95 after first setup, riddled.

K,talking about pcs. Can buy a top of the line 27" iMac for about 2000, or you can do what I did and build one for about the same amount and get this

Look at all the wires, though.

Look at all the wires, though.

There's not that many wires, and most of the ones that are are hidden. I could quite easily have gotten a good wireless keyboard, mouse and speakers and halved the amount of wires.

Unless you need to run stuff like Final Cut Pro, or are doing development for an Apple device, a Mac is an expensive fashion item imo. You can get a better PC for less money and you can destroy it at the same amount. Mac OSX is good, but I disagree with it being far better than Windows 7, or a lot of Linux OS'.

There's nothing in an iMac or a MacBook Pro that justifies the cost that they charge for them.

Yes, the Sony looks neat and tidy on the outside but is a mess on the inside.

So, it looks slick and neat. Clearly the better computer. Steve Jobs was a visionary.

the Pc more than likely has surround sound set up from the looks of things, a gaming mouse and keyboard, looks like a remote receiver on top, a decent webcam not that built in shyte. Do I see two DVI cables? Could have a projector plugged in that we can't see.

Standard Dell mouse and keyboard, stereo speakers on the underside of the monitor and I only see one DVI cable. That's a card reader on top of the PC.

I have an iMac and a Dell sh*tbox on my desk and they look pretty similar to that photo, except my iMac came with a bluetooth mouse. Oh, and my built in "shyte" iSight is 1280x960 :)

I know, loike. Don't they realise that only Apple can provide a visually appealing computer experience. I feel so much more secure, knowing that as I use my Macbook in a local Starbucks, everyone can see the Apple logo, glowing away, powered by my sense of self-satisfaction.

I also thought it was an awesome move to make the iPads screen so shiny, so that awesome mac users can see themselves using their iPad.

Someone told me a while back they overheard a sales guy in one of the major shops, can't remember which one say that running Windows on a Mac is safer and you can't get a virus...

Well it is a Dell, I'd barely classify them as PCs any more. My point being the mac is restricted, I can do what I like with my PC. The mac in that picture would be far to restrictive for me.

I used to work in Apple in Cork, on a production line. God knows how many of those feckin things I builts....
And believe me, the people doing the final assembly in Cork ain't exactly rocket scientists...

I thought everyone in Cork was a rocket scientist. :)

Ridiculous comparison really. Dell has a tiny little screen, clip on sperakers, external card reader, external webcam, and is made to look a mess.

I specced one up to as close as I could to my PC, and it would cost over €1000 more than I paid. Two years ago. And that includes all the peripherals too. I also, specced up a 27 inch iMac for the laugh, €3,000. You'd get a far more poweful PC for that price even from the likes of hugely expensive Alienware

If people want to pay a huge premium for an Apple logo and an OS which is less compatible, fair enough. Other manufacturers build quality and asthetics are right up there too if you dont buy bargain basement rubbish.

Similar case with Internet Explorer. People who hadn't got a clue what they were doing installed loads of useless add-ins which slowed IE down. They installed Chrome, and it was faster. As someone said earlier, its the exact same with Apple, €400 laptop -> €1200 macbook, of course it's going to be a different experience!

The whole wires & cables mess argument between a Mac and a PC is a bit childish, really.

It's your own fault if your desktop looks like noodle city.

I hate the whole mac versus pc thing, its been done to death. The simple fact is they are both great for very different things.

Yes windows based laptops are cheaper for a higher spec, however the macbooks are far more solidly built and in my experience provide a much better user experience especially for the less advanced users due to the fact that Apple has created a system in which you never have to really play with settings or important OS files. Also the fact you don't (most of the time) have to worry about viruses. So basically if you have the money and want a laptop which will cause you little frustration and will last, and can also run Windows then a mac.

However Windows has a lot more software and is definitely cheaper to get an extremely more powerful setup and tbh Windows 7 is an amazing OS now to Microsoft credit with very few issues. So if you are wanting to spend less money, want a gaming machine or just can't stand Apple its definitely the choice.

My advice if you don't game, get an even cheaper laptop and load ubuntu, Linux is just better!

Unless, like me, you are involved in music production and find that all your expensive software and equipment doesn't work on Linux, despite the best efforts of the Ubuntu Support forums. So, my advice is that if you don't game or use any specialist software or peripherals, then get Ubuntu.
