My mother asked me to get her the Twilight DVD boxed set for Christmas.

    I will miss her. :(

Someone suggested I get them the box set also, went into town to
day and got them Requiem for a Dream instead.

    Why?

That's like getting your sister tools because you like DIY.

I dont like Twilight, but... I love how some people really really hate it to the point it makes them angry.

Nothing I hate more than people who suggest that you should get them a gift. And in the long term she will benefit more from Requiem for a Dream, may help her appreciate just how good cinema can be.

i'm sure she will be delighted when she sits down for a nice light, frothy film and then BAM:

    ASS to ASS

I haven't read any of the books or seen any of the movies. I did read a review of the new one, and learned a new word: heteronormative.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

When Requiem for a Dream pops up in conversations it's always Elenn Bursytn's performance that people like to wax lyrical over. But really, the star of this film has to be the Ass to ass guy

It's a damn shame that the ASS to ASS guy didn't get any awards or significant recognition for his performance. You just can't beat that look of pure, intense glee on his face

One more thing: no matter how much you like the films, please don't get a cake made using them as a theme. Cake Wrecks has already seen too many of them, such as this ... thing:

I bet now you wish you'd used her credit card to buy porn back in the day, now yous would be even. :pac:

I went to the first one in the cinema (only been to the cinema twice since then) for reasons not related to seeing the film. I fell asleep a couple of times but I was amazed from the bits I did see as to how they put 37 million fcuking dollars into such a turd. The actors can't have been paid that much and the CGI was some of the worst I've seen since the video for Go West by the Pet Shop Boys.

What I don't get about the Twilight thing is how so many grown women find the whole thing so romantic...what's romantic about a 104 year old guy hooking up with a 17 year old girl?

Let The Right One In really does a great job of highlighting the predatory nature of the vampire myth, and the parallels to paedophilia due to the (actual and perceived) young ages of the two main characters in the movie are pretty obvious.

Yet, when it's Twilight, people seem to ignore the same obvious suggestion of an older person getting involved with a child...just cause he looks young, doesn't make him any less a predator imo.

    So, yeah...Go Team Edward!

It's a franchise I guess, so all they want is money from it. My housemate went to see it last night. I couldn't believe it. She claims to find it hilarious and only watches it to laugh at it, but I don't know how she could spend money on something that she finds laughable. It's still going to be 'hilarious' when it's available on DVD or for illegal download.

What really bothers me most about Twilight is the f*cking up of the vampire myths - like you said, vampires don't sparkle, they don't fall in love with "normal, plain girls", they're certainly not "vegetarians" and they definitely can't procreate. It's fine if they want to make the vampire attractive and strangely seductive, I can deal with that, Dracula had a bit of that. But they should be scary, confused, dangerous, predatory and somewhat foreign (in the sense that they're strange to the outside world and maybe a bit misunderstood). Let The Right One In was pretty much perfect - faithful to all the myths and gory and scary, while still having an emotional level.
