From only playing a few times on my own the lmgs are vital for choppers and juggernauts as you need to reload multiple times with assault rifles or smgs which can be costly. Don't get caught out like I was facing a pair of little birds with a shotgun and a pistol! Armour is also important as without it your screen blurs when shot causing you to miss shots but it goes very quickly. When facing the suicide troops try killing them near groups of enemies so they're caught in the blast, flash grenades or a few well placed rounds to the legs can get a rid of a group of 4 or 5 in one fell swoop. On some of the tougher levels you face juggernauts and choppers simultaneously so having either a predator or delta squad is vital. I noticed Delta squad succumb fairly easily to dogs but were grand against normal soldiers. I think it's a case that open maps are best suited for preds and air support and covered maps for riot shields and delta squads.

Self revive is also very important especially as a solo player. Also perks come in care packages so if you buy a perk you have to call it in and then collect it. Be aware that the perk care package occupies the space for air support so having one means going without the other. I'm not sure on the max number of perks you can have at once.

Make maximum use of the breaks between rounds as you'll be collecting ammo from fallen enemies and running to the various armouries to pick up goodies. You can make crawlers but they only stay alive for a short while so you only get a few extra seconds of respite. Another thing is that you're scores you achieve offline don't get saved (on xbox anyway) so you have to be connected to xbox live or psn to have a score saved.

Getting into games with randoms if absolutely horrendous, takes about 3-5 minutes of searching on the Tier 1 maps, and about 2.5 for dome. Very annoying.

Played earlier for a while, did decent enough. Might try get a boardsie for co-op tomorrow :)

Yeah it's pretty good. Think i got to level 24 or something on one of the maps gets hard though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,144 ✭✭✭CORaven

You can only have self revive and one other perk at a time.

I should be on later this evening I think, would be better playing with someone who actually communicates so I can get past wave 24.

I'm absolutely loving the survival mode. Got to level 26 on resistance and 24 or 25 on village.

Sentry guns rock. Plus assault riffles are so much better than lmg's.

Maybe we can start sharing techniques on each map here.

I was sad to see zombies gone until I played this.

Tip: Don't use sniper rifles against juggernauts, just pump bullets into them with ARs, or predator missile their arse :)

Gotta lov the delta team with the riot shields. Can't wait to play some tonight.

Am really looking forward to this. Haven't played it yet, i just finished the campaign, but it sounds like it has the potential to be as good as or better than Gears 3 Horde mode or Halo Reach's Firefight.

I find its missing something that could make it great. The delta and riot squads are cool but half the time they get wiped out before they get into a defensible position, or they follow me when I go searching for supplies inbetween rounds and then they get caught in the open and wiped out.

If you could issue orders it would be much better, but its not really cod's style I suppose.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,324 ✭✭✭RGDATA!

agree about the delta squads. they do help if you're holding down an area, but even just to be able to turn on/off whether they follow you on the fly would be great

finding the Striker handy in this. you have to buy it and pay for the ammo obviously but with the large mags it's so good for racking up quick streaks in the early rounds that it pays for itself quickly.

best of all it murders juggernauts - one stun and you can get a full clip into them and they're down or as good as

I played this mode for the first time last night. It's a lot of fun, but i just don't understand the decision to make it 2 player only.

The whole point of a mode like this is teamwork and getting a strategy together, and each person having different loadouts and specialisms, and being responsible for mopping up certain types of threats etc. You have a wealth of options in terms of upgrades and loadouts here, but there's just not enough manpower to get a decent team strategy together which would make it really really fun.

The map i played on was the first one, in paris, i think it was called resistance. I don't know if that's overly large compared to the rest, as i havent played them yet, but it had massive possibilities for tower defence games. The large number of loadouts, air support, and explosives and weapons options on it could have meant a wealth of different possibilities for great gameplay, but because there was only 2 of us, and quite a large number of AI enemies to deal with, we just camped in the bombed out house with shotguns and claymores, mined the 2 approach paths, and milled everybody out of it with predators and air strikes.

We got to about level 20 or so with that strategy i think, but i just had a sense that it was missing out on some epicness. For all the tech options the game offered us, no matter what we tried, the lack of manpower meant that camping always turned out to be the best strategy. I would have loved to have been holding that main square with a team of four guys instead.

Still, it's definitely worth a spin. The spec ops mode has taken up more of my time than anything else so far in this game, and it looks like survival has the potential to add more replay value to what is already a very decent package.

How many levels are in survival games? I've gotten to 25-30 on the ones I have played.

Presume it just keeps on going till you die like in Zombies.

Stopped playing solo 'cos I always get a little sad when the last of my riot shield guys dies. Typically getting killed trying to save an NPC.

It's infinite as far as i know. It just keeps going until it wipes you both out, or you starve, or your missus gives out sh1te to you and tells you to come to bed 'cos it's 5 in the morning ( that's the most likely outcome, for me anyways)

I like sticking with the weapons that the AI are using in these kind of games as much as i can, and maybe buying a decent assault rifle occasionally if I'm stuck. You'll never run out of ammo if you're comfortable with using what the AI is using, and you can save your cash for the really cool stuff like air strikes etc.

I think buying a a predator missile and aiming it into the middle of the biggest bunch of hostiles you can find, and then wiping out the rest of them with their dead friends' guns is a WAY cooler way to get a killstreak than spending your money on fancy automatic shotguns! :D

the highest i got so far was 25 in resistance, i was in the house in the middle of the map but im gonna try the bookshop house at the edge of the map next. It seems from watching on u tube they tend to only come the one way and u can plant loads of claymores the other way to take them out. I was wondering does anyone use the rpgs for choppers. how many does it take to bring them down?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,152 ✭✭✭✭KERSPLAT!

I always stay above the arch on that map, between the ammo and granade supply, claymore/sentry gun pointing at "C" flag, claymores, C4 and me looking towards the stairs at "a" flag. Got to 27 :)

Gotten to round 30 on Solo on Resistance before getting tired and turning it off. Probably would have lasted another round or two I reckon. Highest on Insane difficulty is 22 with hypermuse, think it was on Bakaara but we were going for the PS3 trophies - last to round 10 and then 15 in each survival map. Round 15 onwards, and I don't think we were really fussed. Could have lasted longer if we really bothered as with most of the maps in fairness. Neither of us used a headset too which would have been dead handy in the later rounds.

Bootleg by far the worst map for survival, Arakden also deserves a mention in that regards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,178 ✭✭✭hypermuse

Is it possible to complete tier 4 solo? Anyone do it?

If by complete you mean get to level 15 then yea.. just find a good strategy for each map and stick to it!

I've found survival to be great fun and if I'm honest.. prefer it to MP..

My strategy is generally (not saying its the best strategy) as follows:

    • 1st few rounds.. only ever use enemy pick up weapons (practically infinite ammo), and use that 1st shotgun alot.. its great!
    • Kill 1st and 2nd jug with just my guns.. (buying ammo is necessary but only cost 750credits which is cheaper than air support)
    • 1st and 2nd round of choppers, again use ammo.. few clips from guns you pick up will take care of them just make sure your not stuck with a shotgun (again buy ammo after only 750credit)
    • For taking out Jugs later on in the game I always use c4.. If you run around the map tactically you should be able to group them together.. Get them close and lay down 5 c4 on a corner.. as soon as they walk around the corner BOOM.. you may need one or 2 more but 5 is enough if you get them bang on with it! (also try to set C4 near cars as blasts from cars etc will help damage the jugs who are susceptible to explosive damage) again C4 is quite cheap so it costs you less credits than using air support to take them out
    • By using the above tactics and being sensible with the way you spend credits you can afford to almost constantly have a riot shield squad and self revive when playing.. You can afford a sentry gun also, these are brilliant and essential to holding down a specific area! you know it'll protect a certain flank for you and if you hear your man say its gone then you can start worrying bout enemies coming from that direction
    • I never/rarely buy body armor as I feel you can take more than enough damage to get out of a hairy situation quickly! also a self revive is only 4000 credits and body armor 2000.. but if you end up having to buy body armor every 2/3rd round then your just spending more than necessary!
    • Always have flash grenades.. brilliant for getting out of a tight spot tbh!
on a side note.. If you use c4 to take out jugs.. be careful if your playing co-op! amount of times I've taken out a team mate with c4 is unreal! sorry Ade :D

I got everythin done but downturn. That map is a mess!

Found Downturn ok tbh. 2 of us downstairs with sentries pointed up the map and me and mate (and riot shield teams) camping the entrances on each side.

I liked survival at the start but I've gone off it a bit. Definately played zombies a lot lot more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,178 ✭✭✭hypermuse

Yea downturn is just a messy map! Thank god on MP no1 votes for it!!

For survival I found the upstairs part to be the best place to hold down! Three doors to cover.. get a sentry gun on one and your sorted. plus you got the air support crate right there beside ya if things get too hairy!

  • Site Banned Posts: 26,456 ✭✭✭✭Nuri Sahin

Yeah upstairs of the main hall is the best place to hold down alright. Anywhere else and you're fairly screwed. Tis a trek to the equipment armoury though. I think me and hypermuse got to round 19(?) before kinda easing off, likewise the rest of the Insane difficulty ones except for Bakaara which was actually quite easy.

Clearly I missed out on something with the Arms Dealer trophy/achievement. No idea what though -_-

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,938 ✭✭✭mackg

Seatown and bakaara are probably my favorites, got to 45 on seatown, the juggernauts just sprint at that point and take some baitin. You know your in trouble when a pred won't kill a chopper

same happened to me so just started again and bout 1/4 of the way through bang.. achievement unlocked!

Aye, I'll start it again soon. Probably next week though. Tis a bit time consuming. Effort!

****ing hell, fair play! Myself and some hobo by the name of Eric got to round 22 in Bakaara, but attention span kinda went at that stage. Felt we could easily get to round 30.

Can you tell us what tactics/guns are you using? Are you constantly on the move or have a good area to defend?

On resistance last night furious and myself got to level 25 staying near the guns and equipment just down from A dom steps before we got overrun with juggernauts. We were relying heavily on our sentry gun and were thinking somewhere around B dom or overlooking A dom is the best place for it.

I usually buy one sentry gun and one grenade launcher sentry.

Latter goes above the archway with staircase looking over the gun armoury side.

Regular sentry goes on the opposite side of the archway staircase looking down the long staircase leading up to C Dom(?). Very top left of map.

Claymores all round staircase either side and protecting sentries too if possible.

Jugs, well make sure they drop a Jug near the gun armoury and then lead it/them around the place. C4 takes them out quickly if not a predator and obviously flash bangs are vital against them.

Should see you to level 30 fairly comfortably.

Cheers dude, I should have said that Furious was level 1 and I was 26 so we didn't have most of the better unlocks, haven't got the grenade launcher sentry unlockable yet so we were having to make do. Can you have 2 sentrys per player or is it 1 turret sentry and 1 grenade sentry tops?

Our plan was to hold the area near the grenades and ammo. We had the sentry gun sweeping the street and furious on the raised walkway watching over the ammo box and C dom whilst the riot squad was guarding the rear of the sentry gun and I was behind the low wall watching the steps down from A dom, which I claymored up. We'd both keep a check on the street. Doing it again I'd put the grenade sentry (once we unlock it) near 1 on the map so we'd be able to scramble for ammo easier. Our riot squad was generally dire, one guy, lebouef; kept looking at walls instead of enemies. Cowardly Frenchmen.

Another idea was to hold down 2 giving the sentry guns as open a view as possible but the downside is we'd be far away from resupplying and we'd be in the open. There are so many possibilities in each map to consider.

Nah you can only have 1 sentry gun each, and so only the two sentries if your playing solo.

Riot shield teams are alright, but as you pointed out the AI are feckin idiotic at the best of times. I only ever call them in occasionally post round 20 or 3 Juggernauts are out and about.

I personally wouldn't recommend buying any weapons till round 20 at the very earliest especially on Resistance and the rest of the easy difficulty maps. The 1887, MP5, ACR and FAD you pick up from enemies will get you far to round 25(I forget when FAD guys join the fray tbh) even.

As for the map and the markings, it looks grand but the sentry nearest the long staircase leading to C flag will eventually be swiped quite quickly in later rounds as you'd expect leaving you horribly exposed.

Gonna give this another go tonight I think, 27 on resistance (solo) is still my best, I always seem to do stupid things around 25 onwards :o

Here we go so, I only play this split screen with my mates making communication easy, communication is the key to this.

    General:

I use the guns the enemies drop all the way until the constant FADs, then whack a RDS on the FAD for easy ammo and Usually buy a LMG w/RDS and grip. My favourite LMGs are the 3rd one (just like it) and the last one for the quick reload time but any will do. Two ARs is also a good bet because of quick reloading but when you get to tough enemies who take just short of a clip to take down this is problematic if you haven't unlocked slight of hand. It has to be said that since you go through bullets at an alarming rate later on and enemies only drop FAD ammo so you will have to buy bullets for the second gun anyway so the FAD is not essential kit.

In my opinion slight of hand is the only perk that makes a real difference.

Self revive is the most important thing to have.

    Seatown:

I have gotten to level 50 here and have never gotten choppers and juggernauts in the same wave making this essentially the easiest map for survival IMO.

We hold up the second floor area that overlooks the market. Up there enemies will only come from the ladder near the well and the path that comes from the castle, on the other side they have to come up the stairs. Enemies that come up the ladder near the well can be killed before they finish climbing the ladder! The guys that come off the path are usually slow enough to do so giving you plenty opportunity to mow them down (this spot is the ideal to place to get "get rich or die trying"). The stairs on the second players side is great too, but a lot of enemies can be killed before they even reach there because the window above the dumpster and the window that looks down on the the other path give you a clear shot at both the enemy spawn points that send enemies that way. I take this side usually and have gotten to FAD waves before an enemy on a wave without choppers or jugs even got to the stairs!

    Chopper waves:

These are pretty easy, I sit on the table looking at the stairs, a spot immune to chopper fire while my mate stays in the doorway looking at the ladder, ducking in to avoid chopper fire, kill the ground forces then take care of the choppers. No need for air support here.

    Juggernaut waves:

When I talk about Jug waves I mean waves with 3 juggernauts although the tactics can be applied to less they shouldn't be necessary.

Claymores on the path leading to the castle, placement is easy just make sure they are sufficiently spaced not to set each other off. Claymores on the other side: On the landing half way up the stairs facing the bottom of the stairs, at the bottom of the stairs pointing in the door of the building, just inside the door of the building but as far to the right as you can go with your back to the wall facing the same direction as claymore 2, inside the other door of the room so the lasers on the mine kind of touch either edge of the door. Placement of these claymores is important. They are there to kill dogs to give you enough time to hit jugs with preds before they get far, later on these preds will not kill the juggernauts but you will be shooting them for a loooong time without this damage being done.

Hold the usual positions and kill all the enemies you can before the jugs reach you. I like to put C4 at the top of the stairs to do additional damage to the jugs when they get that far. when you are overrun jump out the window leading to the market and bolt across turning around at the end to kill the dogs that will be following. Flash the market and unload into anything in there, repeat until out of flashes or over run. Head for the well side of the map and you should now have all enemies left in a line following you. Enemies on harder waves run at a disgusting pace so its best to only fire at flashed enemies run a big circle around the map collecting ammo and equipment if needs be. Use C4 and flash to thin the herd until none remain. Dropping air strikes on the chasing pack has a great Black Hawk Down feel to it.

If you try this out and make any improvements please post up, this strategy has evolved over lots of attempts and I'm sure there is plenty of room for improvement!

My longest post on boards by some distance.

I'll go through Lockdown and Bakaara as well if anyone is interested but I feel Seatown is definitely the map we have figured out the best.

    Hope this helps.
