Did you have the texting issue and has it cleared up? Mine is still acting up today, texts failing constantly. 3g has been ok in fairness but only used twitter and rte app, nothing heavy.

I had an issue with iMessage where it wouldn't send pictures, but it's cleared up...

Guys, we have a serious issue with Meteor and the iPhone 4S. I see on the Meteor forums they confirmed the Micro sim is just 32K!!! Nevermind even 64K, it's just 32K! It needs to be 128K for the iPhone 4S!

Bloody hell, this is a total disaster......

We have to be able to get out of these contracts. Under consumer law we're covered I believe, the product is not performing or functioning as specified so we should be able to return and cancel the contract with NO penalties.

Meteor are not equipped for the iPhone 4S..

Oh dear - wish I had seen this before!
I have just gotten myself a 4s from Apple (so not locked to a network, thankfully!) and it is due to be delivered tomorrow.
I am on a Meteor sim only plan, and popped in to Meteor to enquire about getting a micro sim (currently on a iPhone 3GS) once the 4s had arrived, and was told they would cut my current sim.
Any idea if the normal sim is 128k?

I'll move if I have to, but the Meteor plan suits me really well, so I'd like to stay with them if I can.

WTH kind of cowboy outfit is Meteor? It's one thing to cut your own sim at home but to have them do it instead of giving you a micro sim?

Yeah, I thought it was a bit strange. Figured maybe they have some sort of cutting device, ie not a knife ;)

There are SIM cutters available (works like a cookie cutter) which give perfect result, but they must be watching the pennies - a SIM is a couple of € from the SIM manufacturers, but every little helps™

I popped my phone on to charge last night it was at 33%, 8 hours later I go to get my phone and it's still charging and is at 98%.

I also noticed the settings app started crashing again in the last few days and now I'm having idle usage again this morning with the battery draining away.

This is just getting ridiculous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,706 ✭✭✭120_Minutes

I must have gotten some of your idle usage, after I did my reset and took it off charge at 8.30 yesterday morning, at noon it said it had been on standby for over an hour!

OK panic over. A restart seems to have cured the problem…for now.

Yeah I've been in bogota, the last few days. I think it's the network who are you with, I'm with three.

    hmm im with vodafone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭franciec

Reading the apple forums it seem to be just the 4S and Vodafone when not connected to 3G or wifi. I think 3 piggybacks on Vodafone when not on 3G so might be the case.

Apparently I've been in a shopping centre in Shanghai for the last few days. I'm on O2.

I get that kind of thing sometimes on Meteor, but not as dramatic as you guys. I live in Dublin 8 but regularly show up down in Dundrum or Bray direction. It corrects itself on WIFI

Has anyone a fix for this? Wish I could just get rid of it now sickened that I'm tied in to 24 month contract for this cr@p!

I'm worried that the new build of iOS 5.0.1 might block the jailbreak?

Anyone have a clue if it'll affect it?

I don't think so as Pod2g and Musclenerd think the software is more open to breaking than the previous ones. I can't be sure though. I upgraded as although I am dying for the jailbreak, I want a functioning phone first.

5.0.1 is untethered jailbroken by pod2g
So it's safe to update, check his blog for release news

No, not yet. He is working on it this weekend. Supposedly the code/method used i should not be much different from that which jailbroke the A4 devices the other day.

I got my replacement phone from Apple yesterday.

So far, no issues. Have sent a tonnes of texts, testing this out and they go straight through, no hangs and no dropped networks to "No Service". I'm on Meteor and had all those problems before. I did the update as well yesterday evening when i hooked the phone up to my mac.

Mine is perfect since the update last night. I got a replacement from Apple a few weeks ago and it did not solve the issue. Seems the update has....so far..

Just let it go through a full cycle once per month(from fully depleted to full charged). Download Battery Doctor from the app store. It gives you reminders and advice for best use.

There is a newer version of 5.01 that has just come out in the last few days. It's not being pushed automatically to every phone as it is only targeted at people who are experiencing network problems. The new version is 5.0.1 (9A406) whereas the old version was 5.0.1 (9A405)

And me thinking the iPhone 4 was bad.
This phone is pathetic Apple should be ashamed to release a phone with so much problems,

I have started to restart the phone after each full charge and m no longer getting massive idle usage like before. I've just had around three hours usage with three days standby.

This s the first time since October tat te phone has gone for more tan a day without ending to be chared.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 203 ✭✭Rob C

The new phone Apple sent me has iOS 5.0.1 9A405. No updates available and the issue has not occurred at all on this phone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,310 ✭✭✭Harcrid

Well my No Sevice issue has gotten worse and is happening more often. Finally decided to ring Apple and they are sending a replacement tomorrow. Hopefully a new phone will fix it.

When I send my old phone back do I include the box or accessories? I am assuming not and I will just get the new phone without the extras.

Yeah Its all a bit mad, I still had battery problems after the 5.0.1 update - but not recently. They must have snuck something in under the hedge or something.

    Alls grand now!

Last night we were in a pub that has poor reception. I pull out my phone from my jeans pocket and it says no service, my wife's and sister in laws iPhone 4 on the other hand had at least three bars (we are all on Vodafone).

Even after I pulled out my phone it would remain in no service, I had to toggle airplane mode to get service back but as soon as I popped it back into my pocket it lost reception.

This isn't the first time I've noticed this either, I thought the 4S had some new fangled antenna?

I can't believe I'm going to have to call Appe yet again to replace yet another phone.

These are exactly the symptoms that made me decide to call Apple and get a replacement. It happens most when I take the phone out of my pocket or in areas with low coverage. My wifes iPhone 4 does not have any problems in the same areas. I am not optimistic that it will be different on the newer phone though.

I decided to sign up to Applecare as I may be sending more than one phone back if this keeps happening.

It's funny, but replacement phones do seem to be better. Got mine from apple last Friday and have had no dropped calls or texts not going through. Even in a very bad coverage area like my office which is stuck in the middle of a big building, I'll still have one bar and always can make calls send texts etc. Have had no "No service" issues. Had them all the time with my first phone.

This replacement phone has been excellent. Working the way it should be.

And note I have not done the update Meteor were advising. No need, it's the 9A405 version of 5.0.1 I have. No updates available and everything is working A1
