THe "standard" stuff you get over the counter is rubbish... all the active ingredients have been removed.

For a start, I'd recommend upping your caffeine intake and see how you react to that first before goiing for any more potent thermogenic.

That, in adddition to what Burkatron just said.

Anything that works seems to work on basis of suppressing appetite rather than the thermogenic properties which I imagine are of limited benefit.

Oxypro Elite worked very well to kill appetitie but I think has been reforumlated so not sure if it works anymore

Ive tried quite a few of these "burners"

    Thermobol
    Ripped freak
    Animal cuts
    oxy elite pro

Ive tried them all for one bottle with a solid clean diet with one cheat meal per week.

Apart from Oxy elite the other 3 produced no addtional fat loss as oppsed to not using them at all..in other words...what i lost...i would have lost anyway!!

With oxy elite i lost 1/2 a lb more per week vs the other 3 with the same diet and cheat meal.

I dont use them any more, i'd rather keep the cash then drop the 1/2 lb that im gonna drop anyway!!

As far as i know any decent ingredients in Oxy elite are long gone in the irish market.

Before I had the good sense to do the above I tried thermobol. Imagine my surprise when my face started getting warm, hands swelling, rash on arms and then tongue and throat started swelling up so I had trouble breathing. I had to drive to chemist in a tearful panic to get anti-hystamines.

    Really?

If this is true then we're gonna get some killer (hopefully not literally) pre workout and fat burning supps...

But I would find it difficult to believe as they usually get abused and people start dying.. and then they get taken away again...

Anyone know if this is true, not the dying bit, the legal Ephedrine?

I thought it was banned because it's used to make crystal meth, rather than the people dying thing

afaik - and I can be corrected on this - it's illegal in competition according to WADA but not out of competition. It's pretty rough stuff though and getting your hands on it legally (according to the IMB) would be fairly problematic i.e. it's still pxn-only but can be used out of competition from a doping pov.

Isn't sudafed used to make crystal meth ?

Sudafed is a brandname for a medicine that contains Pseudoephedrine.
Pseudoephedrine is used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Pseudo ephedrine is used instead of Ephedrine sometimes....I think! I learned the very little I know of crystal meth like most people here from Walter White!

I think the problem is that people alter their diet and take the burners at the same time, so attributing any additional fat loss to them is very difficult. I'm sceptical, but some, and only some, do seem to have a reasonable thermogenic effect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 192 ✭✭heno86

most fatburner's rely on caffeine as the main matabolism booster..i buy pure caffeine tablet's and just take these...waaay cheaper

Pseudo-ephedrine can be used too. Considering thats freely availible, I doubt that was a factor in banning

Ephedrine was what Maradonna tested postive for during the 94 world cup.

Accordign to wiki, its available OTC in Canada and in the UK "it may only be lawfully supplied within a registered pharmacy and while a pharmacist is present".

    Is that accutrate?
Think its illegal in supps here in oz, but prob easy to pick up

Yeah ephedrine used to be illegal in and out of comp, but now it's illegal in comp and ok out of comp (afaik). But to get your hands on it you need a prescription.

The link wasnt the important part..the crux of the post was that less than one second of googling keywords threw up a site dedicated to its sale.. its not illegal to buy or posses..

It will however be seized by the Irish Medicines Board, as a mate of mine found out when he tried to order some without knowing it's legal status last month.

I have had some great results in using thermogenic burners. I cut a ton using thermobol and found them great but also had good results with BSN thermonex.

I know Thermobol have a new caffeine free formulation. Not to sure how effective caffeine free products would be though tbh?

Then why include the link, which you know well is against the rules. Don't argue with me on thread either

Posession might not be illegal. But If it is a prescribtion medicine. Then isn't buying online, essentially importing, is likely to be illegal?

Its not a prescription medicine, unlike amphetamine for example so its not illegal to own it or posses it however if the customs service open the package and dont like the look of it they'll deem it to be an "anabolic steroid" and seize it.

Its all down to luck really.

I was under the impression it was prescription medicine. Was posted earlier in thread that it was.
If its not then I'd expect what you say above to be the case

Clenbuteral would be a prescription med thats used in weight loss too and its known to be thermogenic but epehedrine is rarely used medicinally outside hospitals(its used to restart hearts from what i've heard).

Having said all that i wouldnt go messing with it,it causes horrible side effects and can be dangerous too.

Isn't epinephrine the stuff one gets in an "epi pen" when one is violently allergic to somthing, like nuts.

yes - also known as adrenaline

    ephedrine is something different
you can get ephedrine in the UK without a prescription in a pharmacy - its used as a decongestant

Yep. Totally different drugs but I was talking about his reference to restarting hearts specifically.

I'm just wondering because alot of people do end up taking weight loss stuff with little knowledge of the product, just looking at the different things out there and there's loads!
I think it would be good idea to have a post that looked at the different types of products in an objective way, saying how there meant to work and if they're any trials that give evidence to the claims, side effects(thinking of alli here) Also from the looks of post here what kind of ingredients to watch out for, if shopping online.
And of course ending with it's pointless if your diet is crap.

People are going always going to try these things or at least be curious about them, giving people decent information on a list of the more popular types rather than people relying on information which mostly comes from 'product information' and reviews that can't really be relied on too well(ie mightn't be the tablets at all but they think it is)

At this point I should say that I know pretty much nothing about this, I only got to know CLA from that awful ad were it it shows a graphic of a woman getting thinner(and her boobs somehow get bigger:pac: that bit always made me laugh). I'll just leave this up to the people here that have more knowledge on the topic if you think it's a good idea or not.

Ah thats the stuff..so you dont get Ephedrine from a doctor at all...no prescription= not illegal.

I'm not following you - there's a difference between something being illegal and being obtainable by prescription only.

Ephedrine is medically legal but only available by prescription (afaik - there's only pseudoephedrine in OTC medications), so you can't import it. It's not illegal to be in possession of it if it's been prescribed to you though.

What i'm saying is its not covered by the Misuse Of Drugs act so nothing will happen to you if you have it in your possesion.

And yes,you can import it..chinese herbalists import it by the ton and seeds to grow the plant may legally be grown(if you can be bothered).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,902 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

Nobody said it was illegal to have in your possesion, or that using it was illegal. It's just like having antibiotics right.
But if its a prescription drug, then importing might be illegal. But it might not be, seeing as you can buy in in the UK in a pharmacy.

I thought Herbalist import ephedra not ephedrine. Might be a legal difference there. I know there is or was here in Oz.
