Free Android App for checking your credit

    Hey,

I created an Android app that contacts your network provider and tells you how much credit you have instantly.

It uses the USSD codes to get the balance.
For some networks, it automatically texts the correct word to your provider to retrieve your balance.

A simple app that you put on your home screen.... for people who are too lazy to type in *174#...*100#...etc.
    (Like me) :D

    Here's the link...

    That was fast.

Got the new version. It rings 1744, is this right? Because 3 have no ussd codes for balance?

    Well done, nice simple idea.

    Nice and handy.

Yes it rings 1744 for Three users(I hope this is right, isn't that how you check your balance on 3?)... as you can tell I'm not a Three user, but I couldn't find any USSD codes for them. They seem to be the only network in Ireland with no USSD codes.

..... you could try *123# and see if it works? If it does, then let me know and I'll update it.

I had to change one line of code.... that's why it was a quick update :D

Cheers... It is very simple...It only took 20 minutes to make it for Irish networks. (A bit longer for International networks)

Makes my life easier.... hopefully everyone else's too. :)

That code doesn't work either. Ah well nothing you can do at your end if the network don't have ussd.

I usually log onto my3 online to check the balance.

But if they did, they'd probably be the best worst USSD in the world..

TBH, Three get a lot of flack. Some of it justified. Most of it not.

People don't understand that you get what you pay for. O2 [et all] charge more so can invest more in Customer Care [and I don't just mean their department].

Three don't charge as much as the other networks, so simple economics dictate that their service may not be what you would expect.

I agree. I might get more 'added value services' and better support with the big networks but I get the raw value with Three and once its working properly that's what counts.

Thanks a lot...that would be easily done. I imagine 3 users wouldn't have to pay anything to access that?

Anyway...I'll update the app in the next few hours (once I get home from college)

    ..I love feedback

    Thanks again :D

    Edit:
The app will support New Zealand networks in the next update also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭robbio87

    Ok,

    The app has been updated.
"Three" users will be brought to that website listed above.
Internet connection is required... Users on every other network do not need the internet.

If it still does not work then I guess I'll have to find another way around it.

If you have any friends in New Zealand/Australia/USA/UK..... now they can use this app too.

Seems that way on my phone. Took a while to load 1st time on 3g.

Would imagine so. my3 only auto authenticates when on the 3G (or Voda 2G) network not on WiFi. You need to go to three.ie/my3 to access your account if on WiFi and enter your details that way. Not sure if the App can be made to access it this way, then it would not matter if you were on WiFi or 3G?

Is there any app that checks your usage on bill for meteor? Used to use mobile account checker but it stopped working months ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,968 ✭✭✭✭28064212

A suggestion: add a widget that displays the balance from the last time you checked (as well as the time/date you checked it). Then you'd just have to tap it to update it

Boardsie Enhancement Suite - a browser extension to make using Boards on desktop a better experience (includes full-width display, keyboard shortcuts, dark mode, and more). Now available through your browser's extension store.

The only thing I can find on meteor is Meteor MyAccount
    this

not sure if that will help... :(

    Thanks for the suggestion,

    I've been looking into this....
It turns out that I cannot do this "yet" because I cannot find a way to get the current balance from the ussd message.

ie. The message that pops up to show you your credit... I cannot get my hands on that text... I'm not even sure if its possible. And I would need that text to display your balance on the widget. :(

Another way that could work around this is to connect to the internet and log into your account and get your balance from there. Then display it on the widget. But, to do that for all 35+ supported networks would take quite a long time.

So, for the moment I'll be leaving it as it is and adding new countries and networks when requested. :D

If anyone has any other suggestions, or knows how I would do the above... then please let me know!

And if you like the app, then please take a minute to rate it.

Yeah I found a request for an API to deal with USSD codes but looks like its a low priority? I wouldn't imagine it would be too hard to do with the likes of 3 though with their web based interface?

Heh, there's a rather longer set of requests for it here. 3 years, 547 stars, 222 comments, and nothing

I'd imagine its pretty low down and possibly not even on the radar for further versions, its not the sort of thing that would be important.

Here's a link to some code you can try, in the onResult method you can check the intent to see if it has an data, I've tried it and the intent is null but I'm on bill pay and can't find a USSD that will give me a positive result.

    EDIT: link might be helpful!

Thanks to all for the comments,

Yes, I tried that code, but it sadly does not work for me. :(
Until google make an api for it then it's unlikely that all of your wishes to make a widget will not come true.

On a lighter note, I've updated the app to support the following countries:
    - Belgium
    - Mexico
    - Netherlands
    - Poland
    - Portugal
    - Romania
    - Russian Federation
    - Sweden
    - Thailand

That's 21 Countries Supported so far....
    Over 50 mobile operators...
Over 420 downloads (so far) :D

If one of ye could tell me how you would normally check you're balance, then that'd be a big help.

Is there a number you can ring to check the balance?

    Thanks for letting me know!

There is only two ways to check balance on 3 as far as I know, either ring 1744 or logon to my3?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭robbio87

If I were to set the app to call 1744

    Would that be acceptable?
I know it would probably take longer to hear your balance

To be honest I probably wouldn't use it as I can just create a shortcut to a contact on my home screen? Any idea why it has stopped working?

Until I find the correct URL to check the balance, then it's going have to be 1744...

I have no idea why it stopped working.. unless Three have changed the address.

Possibly my last update of the app??
That could be true....if I don't find any errors in it.

I've updated the app to potentially support EVERY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD

This is thanks to a new feature in the app called DIY-USSD, which lets people from un-supported countries to save their network's USSD code (eg. *123#).

Once that's done then the app automatically checks it for you.

    I know... Awesome, Right??

This is a nice idea but I usually just add *174# as a contact then put a direct dial or contact shorcut on my home screen. Same effect without an app. I guess this is launcher dependent though but I know it works with ADW and GO Launcher anyway.

hey thanks...yea, a couple of people suggested that. I know some phones can do that.. but mine cant, :( that's why i created the app. For people with ****ty old androids like me :D

For some networks(eg. the australian networks), the app automatically texts the correct word to retrieve the balance from the network.
So in that sense, the app is useful to some.

i was looking for an app like this a while back ago so glad someone made one but i eventually figured out that if i make my meteor *#100# a contact and add it to my htc people widget it works jst as well as this app would.. if you dont have a htc phone ders lots of similar widgets on d market.. better to get a scrollable widget tho like d go launcher people widget.

Thanks a million I use it on my HTC desire S on meteor (network), works great with their USSD but where it really shines, above other apps is with the 3 Ireland network as I use it on my home screen to check my balance as it allows me to check via wifi and directs me to three.ie site which I can login to check my account settings balance etc. The 3 supplied app only works via network data on, which is a pain when roaming
