So we had a Rock/Metal Gig of the Year last year and it was won by Kiss's performance at The O2, Here's the link to the thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=69723431

So now it's time to do it all again for 2011

If you've been to a totally awesome gig put it in here, all i need is band and venue.

At the end of the year, gigs with the most nominations will be put into a poll and we'll vote on Best Rock/Metal gig of 2011 from the Top 10 nominations

    Rules

Gig MUST be on Irish Soil in 2011
You can nominate as many gigs as ya want

PLEASE TRY AND LIMIT YOUR CHOICES TO TRULY MEMORABLE GIGS, NOT JUST ANY OLD GIGS YOU HAVE BEEN TOO

Volbeat at The Academy was great but of all the gigs I have seen this year nothing will touch Rush at the O2.

    Simply amazing!

Roger waters at the point without a doubt. Though I'm sure Rush would have been up there had I been able to go

Oh god yea, KISS was amazing!

This year has to be Alice Cooper @ the o2, without a doubt blew everyone else I've seen out of the water.

Not strictly metal, but definelt Rock, I'd say Prince's gig in Malahide would be gig of the year for me anyway.

So far, Rush and Roger Waters gigs at the O2, Primordial at the Academy, and Amon Amarth/Ensiferum at Vicar Street (okay, Children of Bodom headlined but I went for those two, and my friends and I all thought they stole the show).

I'll second this, I was at the gig too and it was great, though I was there for CoB primarily.

Another vote for Rush and Roger Waters at the Point from me.
I thought Maiden were excellent in the Odyssey
Jimmy Barnes in the Olympia under very trying circumstances put on a great gig
Black Country Communion in Vicar St, although I'd be inclined to drop the keyboard solo!

I saw Gorgoroth Saturday night and they were simply blistering.About 70 minutes almost non stop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 140 ✭✭The Neon Knight

    1) Journey / Foreigner
    2) Black Country Communion
    3) Cheap Trick

and now time to throw a cat among the pigeons, having attended the Roger Waters shows , I don't think it should be classed as a gig, it was more like musical theatre. Finding it hard to agree with all the votes here as surely the esscence of a gig is to see the band play live ? when in fact for the vast majority of time the band was out of sight!

Nah, sure you could hear them, which is the important thing. And I wouldn't say vast Majority of the show. You could see them for most of the first half and a good bit of the second when they came out the front.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Nah, sure you could hear them, which is the important thing. .

Well I can hear and see Westlife and Boyzone too, doesn't mean they're singing live. For all we know Roger and the boys could've f**ked off up to Jury's Inn for a pint and left the tape running. Nah I want to see bands sweat , fist pump and earn their money the traditional way!!!

Late entry from Black Stone Cherry in Whelan's last night. Great gig from a class band!
