Boards.ie Server Event: Operation Red Horizon

I'm hoping to organise a server event for next week (probably Wednesday or Thursday night).

The operation has been classified as top secret so details of what'll be involved will be released on a need-to-know basis.

All you need to do at the moment is get your kit sorted. Here's the suit you'll be wearing for the op:

It should look like a tiny version of this when you open it:


You'll need to copy and paste your character's face into the right part (marked in red) from your character's skin file to the navy seal clothes file. You can use MS Paint or something like that. In just a few short minutes, you'll be set and looking awesome in your new gear.



If you have any trouble doing this, just let me know or I'll have you doing laps of the training yard for wearing an improper uniform.

The size of the seal team will be limited to 6 or 7 members so we're planning to run the operation at least twice (one straight after the other) to accommodate everyone interested in taking part.

I forgot to mention that I need 4 actors. I know someone from IRL who can play one of the parts, possible Cherry can play another and maybe Xenon can do the third part. Any volunteer for the 4th?

Benefits include exclusive access to the server while I explain your role and a behind the scenes tour of the event. Oh, and my gratitude!


Also, Cherry, I'll have the final version of the schematic to you by Wednesday morning if that's okay. Had to add a few torches and make a few other changes because creepers kept spawning in places they shouldn't.

Right. It looks like I can't edit the original post anymore so I'll post the event info here. Maybe a mod can move it into the first post when they get a chance.

Congratulations. By opening this thread, you've just agreed to be enrolled in Minecraftia's private mercenary army - BlockWater.

Two weeks ago, intelligence came to light indicating that three adventurers had discovered a diamond mine of uncountable wealth (more than 64 diamonds).
Finding this mine could fund our army for months and kit us out in some seriously blinging armour. However, understandably, the three adventurers are keeping very tight-lipped about its location.
It's up to us to extract this location by whatever means necessary...

Here's all the intel we have on them.
All 3 adventurers live in this island complex:


The Machinist is a serious piston enthusiast. He spends his days searching various caves for slimes to craft sticky-pistons.


The Collector is quite the connaisseur of rare minerals and paintings. Intel has on occasions spotted him out in search of stronghold libraries.


The Dwarf just seems to spend his time eating and digging holes.



Each adventurer protects one element of the x-y-z coordinates for the mine's entrance which is written on a note in their inventory.

During the day, they split up and head off in various directions which will make planning an ambush nearly impossible. However, they each return at night to their respective homes -making nighttime the obvious time to strike.

Unfortunately, there's a catch.

Each adventurer can trigger an alarm from their home if they suspect something is up causing the others to run and we could be waiting months for another chance to take them out. Also, they've hired one of the best bodyguards in the business. He normally accompanies one of adventurers during the day and stands guard at night. If a member of BlockWater even steps foot on the island by at night, he'll alert his employers and we've missed our chance.

The insertion point for this operation will be a small set of ruins just off the coast of the island complex. From there, the team will wait until daybreak and once all three adventurers and the bodyguard have left the island, the team will proceed to the complex, recon the various buildings and then develop and implement a plan with the equipment provided.

Some people are asking about what time is the event on at.

The earliest I can do is 8pm Irish time (7am Australian time).

Hopefully Cherry will be able to import the relevant chunks before that and I can maybe I can meet the "actors" half an hour beforehand to talk them through their roles and help get them into character. :-p

Like I mentioned, there's going to be a limit on the number of members in the squad (6 or 7) so we'll probably just run it twice. Maybe 45 minutes later.
If you log on and the first event is underway, I'd recommend checking what time the second event starts and log off until then or you'll run the risk of spoilers/ruining the experience for the others in your squad.

Perhaps if Cherry is around we could remove the current whitelist and add on squad by squad. In that case only the squad whose turn it is can log on to the map.

I'll import the chunks at circa 7pm tomorrow evening so. Server will be down for 30-40 minutes during that time, and I'll PM Teg on the co-ords of the chunks when I'm done. I'll be on from 8pm.

Regarding the whitelist I'm not sure if the right way to go about it is to block people who don't want to play the event access to the server.

You're playing the bodyguard, Xenon.

I was thinking that your old MiB skin was perfect for the part but feel free to improvise!

I'll try to log on at 7:30pm tonight and talk the actors through their roles. It's fairly straightforward and there aren't many lines (if any at all) that you need to learn so it should be hard to mess up!

Okay, just some quick rules and tips:

Standard Minecraft Adventure rules apply. That basically means you can't place or destroy any blocks. The only exceptions to this rule is redstone circuitry, any equipment blocks that you're given and mob spawners if you come across them. Obviously, Creative Mode is forbidden!

Read the signs around the place. Most of them are important.

The team needs to be off the island by sunset.

If I think of any more, I'll let ye know during the mission!

Server's down at the moment. Hopefully we should be back up and ready to go by 8 anyway.

Just one thing that popped into my head and has me a bit worried:

The island was designed and tested in Peaceful mode. Of course, on the server, there will be mobs. If you see a creeper, try your best to ensure he doesn't blow any of the structures up! If one does, let me know and I'll see what I can do to fix it. Bloody creepers.

If you ignore chat while the squad is on the island and you're off adventuring (maybe hit F1 to remove the dialogue box), you should be able to be part of the squad in the second playthrough relatively spoiler-free, if you want.
