Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Season 4

I see that season 4 ladder is in effect since 3.30am this morning, have to play my placement matches when I get home, probably will stay in Silver. I finished just outside the top 25 in Silver season 3, so my aim in season 4 is to get into Gold in 1v1, and hoping to get into Platinum in 2v2. :pac:

What is everyone else hoping to get out of the coming season?

    Hopefully a bracket or 2 ahead ^^

Placed Gold on both my accounts (Terran + Zerg) :( Which is really disappointing since I won both my placement games, And I am almost entirely playing Platinum players. Something to grind towards I guess this season.

My goal for season 4 is to get to masters. I am in diamond right now. As long as i keep laddering/practicing and don't procrastinate to much i think i can do it.

Winning doesn't matter. The placement match is designed to weed out inactive players.
Your actual league placement is based on your MMR (hidden B.Net ranking) So your recent win/loss ratio (i.e. during the season 3 lock) would have determined your league placement for season 4.

I comprehensively beat my opponent in my 'placement' match. Still plonked into Bronze.
Bummer, with my 80% win ratio over the last 6 days (climbed from 16 up to 7th) I had hoped to make silver........

EDIT: after 15 games in season 4 I now realise my recent streak was a fluke. I have lost 10/15. (and 1 of those 5 wins was a disconnect by a Gold player at game start!!) Hitting the wine now and going to leave it till tomorrow!!

I had something similar with my zerg account, and these were all platinum with a few diamond players, and still gold :( But I still have much to learn it seems so with my week off next week I will start the grind :D

I just want to get out of Bronze, thats my aim :)

This season I just wanna learn to play faster and cleaner, I think to get to that high master/low gm level you need to devote a lot of time to just learning to play faster and more efficiently and you have to actively try to improve instead of just spamming games. Going 3 seasons at that mid/high level masters 16XX points last season and 13XX this season without any real progress is kinda depressing.

I will get to masters this season if it kills me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,806 ✭✭✭Lafortezza

Lost my placement to a 1-base baneling bust after going 1 rax, fast expo. Placed in Gold again, after playing a few high golds and lots of platinums before the lock. Hopefully can get promoted soon!

Played a good few matches this evening/night, thinking "man the people who haven't played all that much in season 3 will be on this evening."
WRONG. No, no the all-in brigade rained on my parade. I have yet to play a ladder game that has lasted longer than 15 minutes. One guy went so all-in that he had to lift his CC from his main to his natural to have a mining base.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,137 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

    My goal is very simple.

Play the game more consistently and get better with Protoss.

I'm not concerned with my "rank" or "ladder" I just care, as the same in every game, about getting better.

The sparse practice and laddering I've put in over the last week I feel more confident going into games as Protoss. I was weary at the start being in Platinum swopping but I think I'd be able to continue to be competitive at that level.

I think my goal for season 4 is to get more consistent games in and hone the basics. Come season 5 I'll look at revising my goals if things change.

I'm looking closely at my gaming recently and see that world of warcraft is eating up 4 nights of my time a week, with little return for the average guild I am part of. I'm going to look at this situation as I can't continue this with such poor progress.

So in summary, or my specifics.

    Get comfortable playing Protoss
    100 Protoss 1v1 wins
Take part in more community events (lans and online fun nights, tournies)

If I keep at Platinum I'll be happy.

Longterm goals are dependant on my time and situation. If I had the time and could get back some of the stuff I had in my WC3 I'm pretty confident I could get pretty good at this game. But it is just about finding the time :(

Happy with that, something to work towards

Doc how did you place silver? :D
been sitting at 1st in bronze for 2 days now 10 more wins then the next guy still no promo :[

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,137 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

No idea man, I won my placement and all :(

I think I'm top 5 in my league, I dont mind honestly cause its a better chance to learn the basics with protoss.

I'm one shy of 25 wins which aint bad for a few days work...

Still getting it handed to me by Terrans though haha.

Feel super good versus Zergs, really got the forge expand down nice

  • Registered Users Posts: 26 D0Gma

nice nice :) i find with terrans always nice to go for an early poke with a zealot n a stalker ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 640 ✭✭✭Thornography

Tbh doc, you would lose the rag learning protoss in platinum as a brand new race. I played my platinum account as zerg for a while and lost like 10 games in a row so I decided to dick it the whole way to bronze to learn naturally. Back In gold now on that account and already playing the plats :) If i hadn't done that I would have rage quit the game I think.

Feck this, I ended Season on a great run of games (approx 75% win rate) but so far Season 4 has not been kind to me.

Currently have 40% win rate (16/24 W/L) I have 16 victories and the players on top of my league all have 14-19. I just can't get a run of games under my belt. (in a small victory 2 of the wins were against higher league players)

I think a break for a day or two then go back and watch my replays. At the moment I am not focused and just not smooth. (Also think my laptop is on its last legs) Most of the losses were against better macro players, luckily very few zergling rushes and no cannon which was a pleasant change!!

Currently I am trying to get to grips with a 3 rax opening, poke a little then transition into tanks/medevacs and an expo. Think I should start going helion on the zerg (just never liked the helion as a unit)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,840 ✭✭✭Arciphel

Tenger, I am all about the 3Rax, we should have a few games sometimes and compare timings ;-) It's the transition into tank I struggle with, always seem to be vulnerable at the 8-9 minute mark to a counter-attack, especially against Protoss as 4Gate is strong then and even 3Gate Robo.

sh*tting all over master league currently, its actually sickening how bad master league seems at the moment, maybe my mmr's f*cuked, or maybe iv just reached a new plateau of ownage.... probably the former....
anyway, just got matched vs dApollo on ladder today, stomped him.. having such a good season so far... should be playing gm's soon, dont know why im not already, since my ratio is so strong.

just thought id let you guys know what iv been up to, since im sure yous miss my presence on the boards so much :p

ps:made an submission to r/ starcraft today, got top upvoated on the subreddit, and was frontpaged, like no4 on all of reddit... my e-penis is throbbing wildly atm

Still suck in Platinum and can't out. My attitude sucks when I lose a game or two though, particularly if I know my opponent is super bad. I'm good with straight up games but there isn't enough of them to get me promoted, too many weird builds and one basing.

Hmm apollo isnt high masters though and hes playing random, a guy i happened to get matched against 3 times in a row 2days ago was 3-4 places above him last season in ladder around 1400 points and high masters was like 1500/1600+ at least last season so i dont think your mmr is that close to gm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,460 ✭✭✭Orizio

Grandmasters doesn't even exist currently. And yeah, Apollo isn't anywhere near it. And no a player that finishes in the low 20s in Masters last season isn't going to get into GM.

  • Registered Users Posts: 98 ✭✭NighTxX

You can get grandmasters this season no matter what you finished last season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,812 ✭✭✭IRL_Sinister

Wait... I'm cconfused.... Can someone clarify something for me because at the moment I am totally perplexed... Why were Apollo and being good at starcraft referred to in the same context?? Even if not directly insinuated.

    ???

lol platinum leaguer talking about gm.... you guys crack me up. low level players really read a lot into ladder rating, currently have pretty nice % win vs high masters, with a decent no. of games, so it cant really be put down to statistical anomaly.
My clan has won clan wars vs Gm's (VP) , and im easily one of the best in my clan, tbh, the only thing in my way of getting into gm, if anything, is just the amount of time i can put in at the moment. dont know why orizio would make such an ignorant statement, based off last seasons ladder rating...

Seriously guys, might be hard to see from platinum league, but there's alot more to sc2 skill than ladder rating.

btw, i never said dApollo was amazing, though he's prob better than everyone on this forum, just thought it was pretty cool to be matched v someone famous on ladder. I also never said i was guaranteed to get into grandmaster league this season (though its definitely a possibility i think... )

Nice to see the forum hasnt changed, having a good day on ladder, come to gloat a bit, and all the noobies jump down my throat. now i remember why i stopped visiting this forum....
also, orizio, just wondering, what gives you the faintest idea you know what it takes to get into gm?

Edit, sorry guys if it sounds like im raging at everyone on boards, for the most part its a great community and you're a sound bunch, but with people like orizio, makes it really hard to want to participate in.

I think regardless of whether some people think UnholyGregor will make GM or not this season....

the thread is about your aims for Season 4.....so in that sense his post saying he thinks he is on track for that is perfectly fine.
(I do see how he was posting to boast about his celebrity encounter)

My aim is to get out of Bronzetown. I may be way off the mark with that aim. But it is still my aim.

So he thinks he will make GM, if he doesn't so what? His ranking/gloating doesn't bother me and more importantly doesn't affect my season.

No need to attack him for aiming high.......but at the same time no need to be so defensive for other posters questioning your ability to reach GM.
As he says, when/if he does achieve it he can then 'come back to gloat'. Thats a better response than running down others.

My pet hate with online play is the term 'noob' being used constantly. (Usually by immature players)
I stomped on a guy last week and all I got was a rage quit and was calling me a noob, he was also bronze, he is the same feckin level as me. (And considering that I stomped on him he must have been crap!!)

So while Unholy may feel that Orizio (or other Plats/Diamond) are 'noobs'...lets all be mature here and agree that they aren't, they may be lower ranked than a Master, but they are not 'noobs'.

Deep breaths all round, GG GL HF.

I find this post hilarious considering (a) you are by far the most bad mannered member of the Irish SC2 community and (b) its a bit sad to see new members who evidently haven't read your posts on this forum ever defending you. There is a reason the long standing members of the SC2 community in Ireland just out and out dislike Gregors in every way.

Anyway, you aren't getting into GM, I was merely busting your always cocky self, feel free to deal with it and leave the long boring self pitying and whining posts out. And no, being in platinum doesn't mean I don't understand how the promotion system works. And no, I don't care about 'slinging ****' about someone like Gregors who has spent the best part of the last year insulting loads of people on these forums until Khazidhea thought him manners (repeatedly) a while back. In fact, we all thought Khaz chased you off somewhere but alas you've returned arrogant as ever despite your numerous 'apologies' in these forums.

Its one thing to be good at a game, its also another thing to have a bit of decoram and level headedness while doing it.

You pretty much apitomise what I consider still to be the main reason we will never see any decent irish players on any scene at a high level.

Yeah you have skills, but you have a rubbish attitude, and that sort of carry on and talk simply alienates you further and detracts any support that you could receive.

And believe me if anyone can give you this advise its me, cause I received nothing but alienation, jealousy and abuse from this website when I was involved in proffessional gaming for a number of years, so stop getting on the defensive all the time.

This is literally the first thread i've seen you post and already I can see you fit into the stereotypical irish gamer category.

Best of luck iwth GM and hope it goes well for you, but if ever you want some lessons in how to not alienate the world while you play well at games, let me know.
