Cutting a Naomi down to sit down size is pretty typical behavour even amongst purists. The sit down version which you see in Japan is pretty much exactly that.

I think painting it black is a mistake though. Black plastic cabinets always look cheap to me. I've seen it done to a variety of Net Cities, Egrets and Ponys and it always looks naff.

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Painting an Egret black is a sin dude, don't even talk about it :)
You might as well drill some holes in it and install some flashing blue leds.

Matter of opinion - if it was a gloss black I would agree but the matt black looks rather good in person and in those photos

    Don't do it man :p

    Although I shouldn't really talk.
If anyone seen my PC they'd give me the ole "bricks, glasshouses" saying.

There aren't really any black plastic cabinets though so it looks inauthentic. Except the European Atomiswave which looked dog ugly.

Black should be reserved for woodies. Even then I'm not a big fan it just reminds me of the typical Irish arcade machine covered in cigarette burns and painted black to hide the dirt.

Lucky that my cab was a UK cab so...

Changing the stock colour of a cab wouldn't be my cup of tea either but atleast you're doing a proper job of it. The quality of that black finish looks pretty good dude. Will be really interesting to see the finished article compared to the second one you have.

Like the ones every single one of us here grew up on & loved? There's having a nice cab, & there's taking it too far.

Some progress shots - after a LOT of cutting, hacking, grinding I've finally got the cab frame back together to ensure everything lines up.
    185501.jpg
Decided to just place the plastic covers over the frame to see how they looked :) note, the base of the control panel has yet to be painted.
Thinking of leaving the system box & legs white, repainting as needed. What yea think?

Gonna need to get a small bar type stool for the thing now.
Note the many many parts and wires all over the floor :)

Just got a Shuttle PC which will be my emulator box, setting it up now. Need to find a menu system which works and doesn't look like poo.

Looking good! Although I wouldn't have the skill or patience to lop the legs off a cab. Nice job though, I do hope the monitor will be tated at some point in it's life?! :)

They are truly beautiful, but like my dream cab, the Windy, specialist dealers won't touch them because they are so hard to get parts for.

A shame, the aero city is beautiful. Even has a shmuppy name too!

Well my plan is 2 have to cabs. One stand alone and my candy cab. Dont know what I should be aiming for though. Another candy or find a cool jamma cab

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,224 ✭✭✭KeRbDoG

Had a little time on my hands today so mounted the screen and re-cabled the cab.

Cab running 'Capcom Vs SNK 2'
    185823.jpg

Cab running 'Last Blade 2' via the EmuPC :)

Tomorrow I will bring in the control panel adapter harness I made with the Minipac from Ultimarc. Will get a good feel of it then.

    Looks savage
I'm not usually a fan of the Naomi standup cabs but cut down they look mental and I think the matt black looks great!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,224 ✭✭✭KeRbDoG

Got bored so upgraded the Net Dimm board of the Naomi. 256MB to 512MB.
No use for the extra memory :) think only one game ever needed the extra RAM

Now with added Naomi2 mainboard - for what you might ask? No idea!

    201323.jpg

Only game I knew (and could play with the controls I have) was Virtual Fighter 4. Looks better than I remember!

oooh sweet, theres one for sale on Otaku that I buy if had the funds,
I must try get one of these Naomi 2 Motherboards down the line too.

I got the Harness to make 6 Button Per player.
I have yet to hook up my Netdimm as loads to restore yet.
But got V Tennis working on the Cab and its unreal addictive.

Can you swap NET DIMM from Naomi 1 to 2 :)
I think no issue more or less some process but different files uploading to it.

Yup, you can swap the netdimm from a Naomi1 to 2. Just need to ensure you have the right firmware/BIOS EEPROM. I already had one pre-burned to drop into the Naomi2 today :pac:

Worst thing you can ever do is update to 512 especially if you Net Boot, which is why id say you have a Net Dimm in the first place.

    only needs 256mb

Why would it be the worst thing? I did it because I could and cost feck all and if I ever get a Tri/Chi it's upgraded and ready to go :)

To be honest, I haven't had time to play it. It's been sitting in work in a room far away from everyone including me so isn't play enough. Waiting on my feckin' house to be finished so it can be installed in its rightful place in the kitchen :)
Fav game, Virtua Tennis :) 1or2. Brings me back to my college days. VF4 is great though. Wish I could play Monkey Ball but need the special controller...on the wish list.

    Updates:
    • Sourced a Zombie Revenge dual analog control panel, a little adjustment and it works with Super Monkey Ball! :)
    • I have feet for the cab, just need to put them on. Need more drilling since these are cut down legs
    • Naomi1 mainboard for sale should anyone want one
    • I got a marquee holder and marquee, you just can't see it in the below pic
    • Really need to play around with HyperSpin, would be great with this cab
    • Noticed my donor cab has an ultra flat screen which prob just has a messed up chassis. Might look for a Rodotron 666A-29 chassis for it. Anyone have one spare?
    • No additional work on the cab itself for an age due to work and house issues
    • Got my hands on a loom which converts the JVS cab to take JAMMA boards. I just needed to get a EGA->VGA adapter unit el-cheapo but did the trick, need to try a different PSU for it as the one I tried might be giving a little interference. Might just take power via the JAMMA connector.

Tested it out with Ciderman's G-Net board

Looks amazeballs but why demo it with G-Darius?
Should've tried something better like... Gradius Gaiden or Raiden 2!

Would have made more sense to have the game mid-demo never mind trying a different game
