Not too sure about rabbits. Must check it out.

There are restrictions on the trapping and moving of Wild animals, as in those with a season. There are rules/laws though on any animals that are transported including rabbits, and other vermin.

It can only be done under license/authorisation from the NPWS.

I'll have a check and see what i can find.

Why would you reintroduce rabbits back onto land?

No its not illegal as long as the traps/cages used conform to legal standards. I have an email saved for the last 2 years confirming it.

Dept. of Ag will be the fellas you'll be wanting to email about movement. NPWS will send you to them.

"The issue of transportation of live animals within the EU comes under the remit of the Department of Agriculture, Marine & Food. You might want to refer your question on this issue to them."

surely they need permission of the landowner of the land they plan to release them on?

I was under the impression that it was illegal to move animals. I suggested it about the urban foxes before and the majority said it was illegal. Rabbits and foxes would both be called vermin and in the same category wouldn't they?

From NPWS (as is the above).

"In answer to your questions on rabbits, they are not a protected species under the Wildlife Acts so you would not need a licence to hunt them. However, you would need the permission from the landowner to hunt on their land. You would also not require a Wildlife Dealers Licence under the Wildlife Acts to sell rabbits as that is a licence that is issued for protected species only.

The same would apply to releasing any caught rabbits into the wild. A licence is not required but you should be aware that if 'unnecessary cruelty' is caused whilst hunting rabbits, a person may be guilty of offence under the Protection of Animals Acts 1911 and 1965."

I would assume that you would need the landowners permission to release rabbits on their land alright, I would also think it'd be a wise move to ask the surrounding landowners as well for obvious reasons.

I notice there's no price on the advert, I'd say if they're charging then maybe that may be their downfall?

Indeed - can't see many farmers being too happy with someone turning up with a load of live rabbits:confused:
