Are Europeans Becoming More Hated/Distrusted In America Now??

So I'm reading over the Amanda Knox case over the Huffingtonpost, Youtube, Cbs News, Abc News etc and all the comments from the Americans I've read seem to have a distain hatred towards Europe and Europeans now. So much so that I've concluded two things:

    1. She was only arrested because she was an American
    2. It's un-American it's travel to europe or even to travel abroad in the first place.

Now I'm sure there's around 50-100 million Americans who would wish for Europe nuked off the planet tomorrow if they could (Rush Limbaugh, Glenn types). Here are some comments from the left wing Huffingtonpost:

    "Lorraine Brewer
I would never ever step foot in Italy and for that matter......never ever step foot out of the United States for any reason.....God Bless America!!!!

    Mariah Dailey
Omg She is finally out of that Hell Hole!! Not feelin any love for Italy that's for sure. Wont catch me wanting to ever visit either.

    ziggystardust
I'm guessing Americans vacationing in Italy has plummeted because of this. I know I would think twice.

    ProgressiveChange
If the United States can kill an alleged American terrorist with a drone and without trial, it could have rescued Amanda Knox from this ordeal. America often acts first and answers questionsl later.

STAY HOME...if you can afford a vacation, take it here in the USA (Florida, Hawaii), or a safe place like Canada.

    MsG7
I know she wants nothing to do with anything Italian ever again.....lol......not a slice of pizza or anything...and I don't blame her....She said she wants to lay down on American grass...

If I were her, I would kiss the ground as soon as I touched down in good ole U.S. of A.....I'd be spread eagle face down as soon as I got off the plane....lol..

    lindanfla
I be she doesnt leave the good ole USA no time soon.....why these kids think they have to study in different countries I will never understand there are very good schools right here in the United States....they ony end up in trouble of god forbid dead

    Pikilina
Italy is definitelly a very unsafe country, scary send your kids there, especially if Americans, they hate Americans so much and it has been like that ALWAYS,jealousy of when America used to be a great country, however wellcome Italians have always been received here....

    akutan
I bet US colleges don't seem too bad to her now.

    jrfromdallas
I bet she never eats italian food again.

    Maribeth79
    Long over due!
This is why Americans need to stay in the good old USA. That case against her was a total sham. They have taken years of her life that cant be replaced not to mention the mental anguish.

    dkazoroski
The Italian government unlawfully held an American citizen for four long years - time for the US to get some guts and make 'em pay dearly for THEIR crime!! Shoot'em down!!

    gwats1957
A little advice? Go home to the USA, and NEVER leave again, not even for a weekend in Mexico. Some things crawl out of the shell, and get eaten immediately. Italians forgive, but they rarely forget.

    Shirleyn48
With all the violence today (particularly against female college students) its best to keep your kids at home. If there is a college near your home, have your kids live at home while attending. Play it safe!

    Hermadite
The real lesson here is to stay out of foreign countries. For starters, watch the movie "Midnight Express." You will tear up your passport and never travel overseas again! Don't press your luck. Stay home and survive!"

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/03/amanda-knox-verdict-_n_992798.html

There was plenty more. The thing is, these were from a liberal site in America, so God knows what Fox readers think, probably want the whole of europe nuked like I say.

You know, despite what some Americans think Italy is not a third world country. Look we know it's corrupt, anyone who follows their football will know that. But I don't buy this attitude that she was just targetted because she was an American, sorry I don't.

And why is it so unpatriotic (as one American on Youtube was telling me) to travel abroad?? Almost unamerican like??

There's calls for a lot boycotts to Italy because of this. Some of the far right probably want a war. Were they even burning Italian flags in Seattle??

It's a shame because I would like to see more Americans come abroad, but there seems to be a recurring theme of criticizing Americans who do go abroad now. I've been to Italy and don't think it's all that bad of a country personally or bad as some of these guys are making out. Is there a lot of hatred and anger towards europeans these days in America??

I would put more value on the deaths of thousends of American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan than worry to much about American opinon on one lone female who got ''herself '' into some serious trouble in Italy .

Any foreign AH readers are probably wondering if anyone in Ireland ever does anything all day other than blasting each other with pi$$.

Most of those comments probably come from people who never would have gone to Italy (or anywhere else) anyway, and use this as justification. Millions of Americans have gone to Italy and the vast, vast majority have not been accused of murdering anyone.

In fairness, a hell of a lot of Europeans stereotype Americans as fat, crass and stupid. We can't really complain all that much if they start to reciprocate.

sure they're an entire continent unto themselves, determined their way is the only way. I'm sure they see the countries of Europe as states, Particularly now with an ould enemy pulling the purse strings

only Americans I generally like come from the south, pico.. u know sports is a good indicator, why are they so curiously crap at otherwise world games? they didn't invent em, so they're not having it. I hope folks are not naive enough to follow their own 'world' games or suck up to 'superpower' nations regardless. cos they're inherently arrogant

The Superbowl winners call themselves World Champions
And the winner of the baseball World Series is always from North America

Can you imagine if Dublin called themselves World Champions at Gaelic Football. They'd be ridiculed for it :pac:

We've always been led to believe that many Americans dont have a great knowledge of countrys outside their own and many , many millions dont have passports because everything they have or want to see is right there at home .This only confirms it although I would not think it applys to the many who do have knowledge of Europe and the wider world and will continue to travel abroad ( except maybe to Canada :pac: )

    It depends.

I met plenty of American exchange students when I was in college, one of them's now a very good friend. He told me he votes Democrats but on a "lesser of two evils" principle. The others seemed excited about being in Europe and I remember a group of them went to Italy and Morocco. They had no trouble there and no complaints about those places.

I've never met a conservative American living in Europe. All the Americans I've met that are living here have been open-minded and wanted to explore new places and generally seem unhappy with what they have to put up with in the USA. A lot of them make jokes about "American freedom" and look back on the country with the same disdain that most Europeans look at it. It's definitely not the case that all Americans are as ignorant and narrow-minded as those ones posting that drivel quoted. Sadly, every country has it's idiots and every country has those people who want to get away from the idiots. Unfortunately, there's just a lot more idiots in America and they are a lot louder.

Also, I lolled at the ones whining about unlawful imprisonment and taking people's freedom away for years at a time. Don't they do that in Guantanamo Bay? But I suppose, that's in Cuba so it's different.

They're just the vocal minority and those with an axe to grind who tend to come=out in large numbers on the internet. You will see them on any news site that allows comments. USa is a big country in fairness so there is a hell of a lot of them, but a hell of a lot more who would be embarrassed to see comments like that

Italian cities do tend to be dangerous kips, although beautiful and always interesting, you do have to watch your back and they do rip off the tourists I think it's their national sport.

Except I would go back its a beautiful and very interesting country especially to a History and Art nerd like myself.

I live in the US and i see no hatred for Europe in the media, i dont really know where you are getting this from. The only thing i see is the analysts on CNBC taking the piss out of the PIGS and assessing America's exposure to the PIGS, but thats understandable.

+1. All the Americans I've met through my travels have been pretty down-to-earth and respectful of other countries customs. Moreso believe it or not, than the Canadians, whom some of I've found to be a tad arrogant and very quick to fall back on the " No, I'm Canadian - not American!" argument - much like the we do with the English I guess!

Good thing she wasn't arrested and tried for murder in America then. There's a fair chance in a lot of US states that she wouldn't have been alive for the appeal having been given a lethal injection, electrocuted or gassed to death.

Quite honestly, it's a bit rich for Americans to critique any European justice system when their own regularly has miscarriages of justice that are quite often fatal.

I suppose, she was wealthy, cute, female, and white so obviously they care more too.

    Thats not entirely true.

The World Series was orginally designed to be just that the World Series.

The promotors of the tournament named it that hoping that it would attract countries in the Caribean and Japan, etc to send teams. But at the time no foreign countries could afford to send teams but the name and tournement were a sucess and so the name stuck, no reason to change it.

Maybe they should have changed it for symantec reasons so whingers in internet forums a 100 years later wont get offended.

Ireland hasn't come up much in US media since the bailout crisis or Obama's visit. In general, Ireland has always got favourable media coverage, except in Financial media where people are less emotional in their journalism and more analytical since it affects their bottom line.

I lived there for nearly a year, I think the people are great, very polite, helpful and friendly. But I did find a majority of them (not all) insular, they really do not know much about the outside world.

As for the dumb americans, no way, but again they have a tendency to specialise, for example an accountant would read the accountant magazine, go to accountant conferences and have little interest outside that. So what you get are the best accountants in the world and the same goes right across the board for all jobs. So their nerds are the best nerds in the world.

Also they work hard, they do live to work.
