Nah not true. It wouldn't be written into any documentation that a panel must be discarded after 4 years etc. You'd never set up a panel in the first place if there was a possibility of it going on that long.

Shatters last comment was interesting on nov 17th when he basically changed from what he had previously been saying and stated that the longer things go on - the less likely the panel would be kept. Because of this change of language, it would suggest to me (me anyway) that he is expecting things to be dragged out over a longer period of time as opposed to taking in recruits in may 2012 and nov 2012 as a previous poster suggested.

In any case, i think the time is ripe to no longer continue suckling at the tithe of alan shatter for his drippling of costic milk and information but instead make it clear that as future guards we know what we want. If the panel does what to keep its place - i would probably suggest to them contacting their local TD's etc and stating that you are more than happy to meet the entry requirements for the new course by doing first aid, swimming certs etc in your own time and at your own expense before entering Templemore.

At least this way there'd be no justification for dropping you (the panel). This is what i'd suggest. However whether shatter would want the keep the panel even in this instance depends on how he feels the atmospheric coagulation of the moment suits him. It's all up in the air at the moment. However things go we can only say at the end of the day it was our intention to do our best as future guardians of the peace.

Was talking to a lad at the weekend. His buddy works in templemore and said that the trainers are studing the new course at moment and hoped there would be an intake in May 12 and Nov 12

hi yogi, thanks for sharing, its very similar to what myself and a few others on here were told so i'm inclined to believe it!

Like i said before "get a grip!" there seems to be a few people on this forum who have absolutely no tolerance for any opinion other than their own and most of the decent posters seem to get banned for having the audasity to question them, this forum is decending into a farce its half full of gob****es and most are moderators who are wannabie Gardai, pricks of gardai or who had to leave the state to get a job in the police because they couldnt get in here! God I feel great after that! Goodbye,if your going to get banned you might as well do it in style!! :D:D:D;)

Dudes relax. We may all very well find ourselves working together someday or at the very least sat around the station canteen eating pizza and watching the porn channel.
We need to remember we're all on the same side.

This may be the waiting to apply room but anything that effects the panel will effect those of you waiting to apply (whether the panel is being kept or not). Anyway this whole area is being turned into a complete joke so I still say if the mods are ok with it that we create a new forum and try to get the good days of posting back! I know the trolls and clowns will still be there but we can just let the mods deal with them!

It's only natural to feel annoyed with the way things are with the economy at the moment but on here is not the place to vent your frustrations. Buy a stress ball, go start a fight with a tree, eat custard till you pass out - do whatever you want but don't annoy us. It's hard seeing your life pass by and you still not having started your career in AGS and wondering if you ever will ....so be considerate.

Garda Commisioner will be appearing before an Oireachtas Commitee today to discuss community policing. Hopefully someone will highlight the need for a new recruitment campaign to address the issue of low Garda numbers.

Hi, has anybody heard any or seen any figures for total Garda retirements for 2011 and first two months of 2012, now that the last day to avail of old system has passed??? Thanks.

Shatter explaining how most cars over 300,000km are in ''good nick'', as well as the introduction of taxes to Garda allowances. Unfortunaly, Queen and Obama visits ate into the Garda budget causing a €27.4 million deficit. No mention of recruitment unfortunately.

No plan, as of yet, for recruitment in 2012. It's all still a numbers game.

    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/budget/budget-2012-howlin-kicks-off-twoday-cuts-and-taxes-plan-2954182.html

Howlin will be announcing some of the cuts to public service spending today. According to the above article roughly 40 stations will be closing, mainly in Dublin. If the Gardai can achieve the goals set out today and have a surplus in their budget(very unlikely though), they may have funding for a new campaign. Garda numbers are steadily decreasing. At least we should be getting a clearer picture than this time last year.

Very doubtful, thats just wasting money.
It's more likely if they had anything left over for recruiting they'd recruit from the panel. Not start a new campaign.
Realistically no new campaign will start for at least 2 years.
    We can all dream

guys, theyre closing busy stations in dublin during night time hours to save on electricity...............................thats how broke they are!!!!

wont see a recruit going into templemore in 2012 i would suspect, based on that.......

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 435 ✭✭tweedledee

75% of the cuts from Dept of Justice are gona come from Garda funding. Sad to say but it will be a loooooooooooong time before they spend anything on new recruits.
When the Justice minister thinks patrol cars with 300000 on the clock are in good nick and safe to drive, imagine how he feels about Garda recruitment. The silence from the Commissioner speaks a thousand words.

In one of today's papers it read €79 million to slashed from the Garda budget next year through pay and pension savings , 31 stations to close and reduced hours in more , Civilian staff and the Garda Reserve will play much bigger roles in the future.

    Any link for this?

GRA really need to start being more vocal about everything.

Not major news but it does make reference to the new BA in Applied Policing and how it addresses multiculturalism

well the auld lad was talking to local chief super recently and he seems to think it will be no sooner than 2 years before recruitment and very possibly up to 4 years, i could not figure out how this would be possible(4 years) untill i read the sunday business post where it said there is the possibility that numbers will be brought down to 12,000 rather than 13,000. this would definitely take 4 years to achieve. the gards are being seriously cut an since this rescission started things have only got worse, and i think its going to keep getting worse for another few years, i recon the long wait is goin to be alot longer than we want it to be esp if it goes to 12,000. i wasn't even goin to say this but i certainly dont think a chief is goin to pull this out off his ar** :(

Personal opinion is not a fact. Unless he's the commissioner or Alan shatter he doesn't have a clue of what is happening.
