Looks like a good deal... few questions though. Is it DEFINITELY saorview compatible? Also can it pick up Saorview HD? Does it have the TV guide, I think it needs to be MPEG5?

I bought the older one LD450 a few months ago for my dad and it's a great tv - it has a super picture, has the text and it has Saorview ( which means it will pick up the Saorview Hd). I can only presume this one is even better - sounds like a very good deal.

Sick.. About 3 weeks back I've ordered the 27 inch Acer for 225GBP delivered.. Back then, the LG wasn't on sale, should have waited ;)

    Good find, OP

50Hz though, otherwise I'd be all over it. Having seen the difference a 200Hz TV makes, I'm on the prowl for one of them, but can't argue with this TV if that's not a factor for people.

rte two on saorview is HD only, so if it's saorview approved, then it picks up HD channels.

I bought a 32 inch LG LCD tv 1.5 years ago for the kids ps3 and to my surprise it picks up Saorview and Rte2 HD and only cost at the time €299

    A little tip for folk.

Keep an eye out for the "new and used" prices below any tv's you're thinking of ordering from Amazon. Sometimes Amazon Warehouse sell off some units, and they have varying levels of usage and/or cosmetic damage.

Last week, I took delivery of the 32LD450. It was described "Used - As New", with the description saying it was repackaged.

It arrived in a non-branded box, but the unit was brand new.

Best part? It cost me £156, with free delivery!:D

I got it delivered through deliverme.ie. Costs €22 for overnight courier from Co. Down.
So Amazon ship it free to them, and then you pay for them to ship to you.

Bought one of these for the mother from HN 2-3 months ago, and its a great TV for the price, €399 at the time, even though its a steal at the amazon price.

Saorview is fantastic on it, RTE 2 HD for the Championship was class. It definitely has the MHEG5 for the new teletext as well.

Nice USB feature as well for playing AVI's, DIVX's etc and showing photos.

If I was to complain about anything at all about it, it would be that the overall color is very hard to get right. You can tinker away with it (plently of options and settings there) and get it just right for the channel you are watching, but then when you change channel, it doesn't seem to suit the next one. Maybe I haven't played enough with it, but that's the only thing really. The Intellisensor thingy that comes with it for color and brightness doesn't really fix this either

    Silly Question

Saorview approved means that their is no need to buy the set-top-box ?

Ya can just plug in the co-axial from the arial on the roof into one of these "saorview" tv's and bobs your uncle?

    Tks in advance.

    A.

You know how you don't need a set top box for saorview with this tv? Do you need a set top box to pick up free to air satellite channels with this box? I'm assuming you do...

Does anyone know if the usb playback has to be unlocked using a universal remote like the older model LG or is it already set up?

USB Movie playback thankfully now comes as standard with this model.

There's one "used - like new" available for £195.20 if someone's quick!

That would presuamably involve postage which would probably wind up more expensive.

Just a heads up to anyone buying one of these LG generally use panels from several different manufacturers so your tv may look completely different from your neighbours. I checked 5 shops last year for an ld450 with an IPS panel but they were all AU Opteronics panels which I really didn't like. So its a bit of a lottery. Some people prefer the au opteronics screens for the black levels but unless you mainly watch movies in the pitch dark directly in front of the screen then the IPS panel is a better bet.

£195.20 delivered free to Co. Down.
    €22 overnight courier to you.

    £195.20 + €22 < £244!

    I'm a big fan of deliverme.ie

But the known savings vs. potential hassle for that deal is somewhat unappealing.

Firstly, it'd be unwise not to add the extra shipping insurance with them (at an additional €10.00 I think).

    Amazon Warehouse:

    £195.20 = €224.40 + €22.00 delivery + €10.00 insurance

    Total = €256.40

    Amazon.co.uk:

    £246.03 = €282.71*

*paying in GBP and letting credit card handle FX is preferable to the conversion rates Amazon provide.

So, essentially you're saving €30 and that just doesn't seem to stack up.

Also, should a problem arise with the set, would that necessitate a return to Co. Down, from where the gratis Amazon return procedure would kick in? Otherwise, if you ship it from down south, my guess is Amazon would not cover the return cost (which they will do if it was originally shipped to a ROI address). Either way, you're out of pocket.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,014 ✭✭✭Soarer

Talk about poo-pooing a fella trying to save people a few quid!

This is all irrelevant as the set is gone, but to try fair things up a bit...

Why would you take the extra insurance for €10? Did anyone take extra insurance from Amazon? Is it even offered? I didn't take it, and luckily enough the set didn't arrive in a million pieces! It'd get you thinking that Amazon know how to package things without them smashing!

And if something does go wrong and you had to ship it back to Down, why would it cost more than €22 to ship it back? Deliverme are obviously making money on the €22, so it can't cost more than that. So even if you had to, you're still up €8.

Another thing about buying from the market is you have a 30 day return policy, as opposed to the standard 7 days.

So to my mind, saving €40 on a €280 set is pretty good.

As for "potential hassle", you can find problems buying anything from anywhere. I wasn't forcing anyone to buy the set, just letting people know that it was available.
I went through the same process last week, and would have no hesitation in recommending others do the same...which is why I posted originally.

Do you have the same warranty ?

Its a good point in fairness Badgermonkey!

You could just get the older LD450 and remote hack it to play divx. Its basically the same tv as the LK450 as far as i could except without the DIVX playback.

Thats whats I did. Bought a 42LD450 in tesco recently for 399. Went to argos and bought a universal and unlocked it. Unfornunately the universal remote would not work with my dvd player so I immediately returned it the next morning ;).

Have to agree about the color on these, the blacks are just nowhere near as good as the Sony Bravia 40" I have in the bedroom. However the divx playback is awesome. It will play literally anything I've thrown at it including MKV's. Some of which wouldn't even play on my WDTV Live, and thats a dedicated box specifically designed for the job (although a firmware update would probably fix it).

All in all, good value for the money.

I think you misconstrued my post Soarer. In no way did I have a pop or even a poo-poo at you personally.

I'm a big fan of Deliverme and Amazon Warehouse but simply think in this case, for the sake of €30-€40, I'd rather have a brand new TV delivered directly to me by Amazon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,014 ✭✭✭Soarer

No worries Badger. It just read a bit negative.

It just goes to show the different way people think, 'cause I'd much rather have the tv delivered to me by anyone and keep the 30-40 euro in my pocket.

The odds of something being wrong with new sets are fairly small in all fairness.

Is the LG 32LK330U not as good a deal at £241 ??? Seems to be the same specs. IIRC I saw somewhere that this model has 2 x mpeg 4 tuners.

Main difference is it's not full HD.

Also, lower contrast ratio and fewer HDMI connections.

I don't!!! But i'm flummoxed about where I saw that:confused:Just had a look at LG's Irish site. Both are Saorview approved, but LG give no details re the tuners in the sets:(
IMHO they are both great value and are among the very limited no of models that Amazon ship here free !!!

    It has passed Saorview approval.

By that very fact, you can deduce it is DVB-T + MPEG-4 (H.264) + MHEG5
