Hi First time posting just wondering can you put Version 2.15B8 on box which currently has version Version 2.15B5 on it???Also have signal strength of 90% and signal Quality of 86% on Ariva box but when i plug in Sky FTA box into another room quality and strength goes down to about 30% any idea why this is..thanks
Yeah you can update the firmware to 2.15B8 no problem, as for the signal problem someone else will have to help you out there.

What's to be gained by upgrading to this latest version? Is it a case of if my box is working fine at the moment, leave it alone?

+1 - doesn't have to all the channels either - even if you stuck the streams at the back of the list.

Here's my channel list, all up to date.

That's brilliant - upload of userdb went well and quickly. Channels are all in a nice order. Thanks for your hard work!

I've had my receiver for the past month or so working perfectly but today when I moved it from the bedroom to the living room so that my brother could see some of last nights rugby which I had watched while recording last night, I found that the USB drive(which is always connected to the receiver) would not handshake with the receiver.I rechecked all my connections a few times and even attached a different drive and a different USB cable to try to get a handshake but no joy.It just would not recognise a USB drive.
I brought it back up to the bedroom and reconnected as normal and still nothing. I opened the receiver to check if anything had gone amiss with my USB connection which I moved to the back last week but everything perfect i.e. no strain or nothing touching which shouldn't be. Suddenly after another few tries it recognises the USB drive and is working perfectly since. I have never experienced a USB device refusing to handshake like that before with any of my equipment. Any ideas?

I installed the the sat dish and ariva 120 two months ago and I have noticed when there is heavy rain or very windy I have lost some channels or the picture on some channels have become distorted. The next day channels back to normal, picture quality is excellent though.
Should I be expecting this re occurrence again when the weather turns and is this normal behaviour for satellite servicethank you.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,351 ✭✭✭Ronnie Raygun

It's normal behaviour for a badly installed or inadequately spec'd satellite system; you either need to align your dish better (& skew the lnb properly) & make sure it's well secured or get a bigger dish.

This assumes you used decent quality cable & made good weatherproof connections.

Had that problem myself when connecting a USB stick to upload the channel info. Took a few goes for it to register on-screen. I thought it was a dodgey USB stick TBH. Anyhow, if you're trying other drives, maybe something else is the problem for us. **scratches head**

Iv a 120 connected to a modulator set to channel 45, problem is the box is cycling on/off, the whole time, latest firmare on it, all cables ok . So i disconnected it left overnight and pluged back in with just the scart and it's fine, but tried again on modulator and it's off cycling again, now i cant flash it bacause its cycling, this is a new box, any ideas or could it be the channel it's set to, it's connected to a tachnomte( channels 26) with aljazeera. and a sky box on channel 68 via rf, the other boxes are working fine. what could be the problem,

Maybe it wasn't "safely removed" during the move ......

This can happen when you just rip the cable out without unmounting it in the menu on the box.

If you connected this to a laptop it might give you a pop up to say the drive needs to scanned for errors and automatically fix them.

The satellite box wont tell you this in a popup, but is doing it in the background - especially for those drives dependent on drawing power from the USB port.

If you have these symptoms, just leave the drive connected, power off and on with the remote and give it 30 secs to read the drive.

Have been using the 120 for some time now. Relocated the USB port to the rear of the unit as its a PITA located on the front of the unit behind the panel IMO.

I'm sure the USB port is poor quality as its hit and miss with 3 different sticks which I have used for channel dumps / tests and upgrades ( all 3 work fine in laptop ). I might swap it out for a better quality part in the future.

If the box is left on for several days, mine has a tendency to need a reboot. No particular pattern, just one of those little annoyances.

As others have also found, external USB powered drives have a better success rate than non powered.

The 2 day EPG is a pain also; I'm sure there is a massive market for a Freesat approved combo box with half decent build quality.

All in all, happy enough with the unit but I'm gonna try another low tier combo box ( opticum X7 ) just to draw some comparisons.

I'm straying off topic but there is no commercial reason for Freesat to become involved in a combo box as all the UK freesat channels are on satellite .

Cheers Tony, a guy can dream cant he ;) Any issues with the USB ports that you have been made aware of? Any complaints of temperamental behaviour?

Yep, same for all users. Irrespective of the firmware.

Of course you can :) I've not been made aware of any issue with the USB bar one that was disconnected at the board.

Afraid not as we no longer repair them here.

Why have you blown it ? It has a 5v phantom power on it from the board to supply power. Your problem with various sticks that work in a laptop is down to a minimum write speed being required in order for them to work on the box.

Trying an Opticum box will produce similar results. From memory the Opticum's are made from the same ALI chipset.

The now/next limitation on the satellite side is down to how the information is presented on 28.2. There are combo boxes that have patched software that download more than now/next data from 28.2. They are either linux based or the Technomate higher end combo boxes with the phantom patches. You are talking €220+ though.

We may want to head the warning about safely removing your hard drive.

I didn't do it right after a freezing incident and look at the results \/

I restarted my machine, then took out my flash drive before she completely rebooted.

Just a quick question. I have a Ferguson Ariva 120 that I got from satellite.ie and am really happy with the product.

I am curious about the card slot. What cards (legal ones only), are people using with it? In other words, what works with it. Sky? Foreign Sports? Dodgy European Porn? Y'know what I mean, I hope..

I haven't done anything to the firmware on the box, it's still as it came from satellite.ie

    Thanks,
    MJ

I'm having difficulty watching AVI files from the USB port. It plays the audio but not the video and says codec not supported. Any reason for this or have I missed an upgrade on the firmware?

    Thx:)

The video codec is not supported .... re-encode the video to something that is supported and all will be OK.

I was at an exhibition in London 2 weeks ago and one of the stands were selling legit cards of an adult nature cheap. I didn't make a purchase as I morally object to the sexual objectification of women...... Oh and I didn't know what card worked with the Ariva. :)
