    http://www.rte.ie/ten/2011/0921/adele.html

I like her but this doesn't surprise me....too much of a good thing and, I really hope next time "it lasts in love" for her...so much angst can't be good for the psyche

So who do you despise musically??? My Mum loved the Dolly Parton original version of "I will always love you" and she despised Whitney's treatment of this Country classic...hadn't the heart to tell her it was Whitney's efforts that made it famous (and then some!!).............and both versions are banned in my orbit:D:D:D

Terry Jacks - Season's in the Sun.......found my Dad's porn stash when I was little and this was playing on the radio as I digested the content (tame Fiesta & Playboy, it was the 70's!!)........still feel  and regress to childhood embarassment if I hear it!!

Someone in work today kept playing her songs on the cd player. I felt like jumping off a bridge after listening to them.

I hate Adele's big foghorn voice. Lifts me out of it every time I hear her

    I am totally shopping there

If only shops would do the same for all that autotuned cat puke that passes for music.

Never seen her or heard her sing yet but am aware of the name. Based on this I'm guessing she has to be some X-factor creation (sorry I mean democratically voted winner)?

No, nothing to do with X-factor

She went to a school for performing arts as a child and got to where she is on her talent

Hey...sometimes girlies/guys like a bit of padding on the bones and I couldn't imagine that voice coming out of a skinny bird:D:D:D

I only connected the name and the voice recently - I'd heard her before, but didn't feel inspired to find out who it was. OK, I suppose, but I've heard good things about her live performances. She really impressed music industry guru Bob Lefsetz when she played LA last month, and it's not the first time he's praised her work. Bob is not someone who's easily impressed.

I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. I honestly don't get why everyone hates Adele. She's got an incredible voice, far better than half the auto-tuned shite around at the moment.

    Brilliant

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,554 ✭✭✭steve9859

She is unreal. She had, if I recall correctly, 2 singles and 2 albums in the top 5 of the singles and album charts, all at the same time, earlier this year. First time that had happened since the Beatles. It is just she has been massively overplayed, and I guess some people need a break from the big voice and the angst!

its less **** than the xfactor ****.
but its so much more prevalent.....1 million tiny ****s is as bad as 100 big ****s, as they say....

Yeah, great version to be fair. The audience clapping out of time don't half ruin it though.

Shop copies an urban myth story shown in that Mike Myers Wayne's Film
Story gets picked up by London Independant and RTÉ

Staff member is available and happy to give a quote, funny that

OP starts the story on boards as if it was news and not advertising

Job done, well done to the owner

And well done to Adele who is incredibly talented

Aah now, should you not be over in Conspiracy Theories??

I have no connection to this shop although I did buy the sheet music to White Ladder in there;)

It was news to me, and I thought it interesting how songs we really like can become those we must avoid at all costs!!

As I said in my original post, I like her too...especially the track on the album where she nods to Jerry Maguire:D:D:D

It was worse back in the '90's when bastard Blur, and bastard Park Life was being played in every single pub, club, store, radio station etc, etc. Nightmare. The worst song ever written, by the worst band that ever existed.

You seem to be very easily irritated. You should cut down on your porklife mate... get some exercise.

She writes her own songs which more then can be said of a lot in the charts these days

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,512 ✭✭✭Oh_Noes

I've heard worse in all honesty. She's a good singer and I think "Rolling in the Deep" is a decent song.

I think the problem is the simple fingering/rhythm of the song, sounds like a kind of A minor, G major, F major thing which just happens to be a very simple piece of piano which anyone can play if they're shown once. A lot like chopsticks or three blind mice or something. I'd say the music shop owners are just irritated at hearing the same riff over and over rather than taking issue with the anxtiness of the song.

This is one of the comments from the OP's link - you couldn't make this up!:eek::eek:
Disgraceful. They should ban all those noisy indie bands and rock bands from the shops. More Adele and Lady Gaga and Westlife and The Script and Cher Lloyd and Matt Cardle and Jedward. Real music that people can relate to and want to hear.

it confuses me why everone in AH hates adele.

    shes fookin brilliant.

the same people hating on her would be the same people to give out about modern music when she's clearly the best and most talented artist to become mainstream in a long long time.

id much rather hear her all the time on the radio then bloody ke$ha....

You need to widen your musical net to be honest.

I bought the Verve's Urban Hymns CD off one housemate and broke it in two cause the other housemate was constantly playing it. money well spent.

you obviously dont have to work in a place that places her songs on repeat. Id much rather listen to kesha tbh.

It's not really my type of music but I think Adele's songs are good - but I still couldn't listen to more than two at a time! So depressing and a bit monotonous after a while.

If the staff at Opus have had to listen to 20 people a day coming in and playing the same song on the pianos, I can totally understand why they banned it! Loads of guitar shops have signs up saying "No Smoke on the Water, no Stairway to Heaven etc."

Nothing wrong with Adele but "Someone Like You" did get ruined a little by overplaying. That's not her fault though. She is a really talented singer and doesn't deserve the stick she gets.

Oh and to the wannabe comedians who makes stupid jokes about her weight:
    1. Those jokes have been done a million times before so you're not being original.
    2. She's probably already made more money than you will in your lifetime. So joke's on you.

my musical net is plenty vast.

she's honestly not as bad as youre all making her out to be. there is much much worse out there. ill admit she gets overplayed, which always ruins everything, but aside from that she's impressive.

Adele is the first living artist to have two top five hits in both the singles chart and album charts simultaneously since the beatles. shes only 23.

i know charts (especially today) arent a good measure of actual musical taste, but thats impressive.

Moved house recently and found all my old records;) Bought a device for loading them onto the PC....introduced my girls to some real music, amazing how many songs they recognised from samples.....and they agreed with me, the original version is more often than not the best.....
