That'll hurt the stores a bit I hope. Damn near 500 euro and more depending on which network you get it on.

Why? The most you'd save would be about a fiver, might even work out more expensive, delivery to Ireland from the UK site is more expensive than delivery from the Irish site

That's an awesome phone if your into gaming, I just sold mine second hand and it was pretty battered with a scratched screen for more than that price.

Absolute bargain if you'd not like to have an iphone. Best phone for gaming every. It's a bit fiddly out of the box but update it an it gets a lot better, sony have said they won't be releasing a new one shortly but just aim to make this one better with every update.

If your even half thinking of a new phone, this is a bargain not to be missed, loads of free games from sony and android ones that work with the dedicated gaming pad to keep you amused.

Delivery date says October, so expansys have obviously got wind of the imminent price drop that's due (prices change in store at the start of every month), this phone hasn't been selling at all, lots of interest but nobody buying because of the price.
Not sure if sony can afford to do it but if they let this off at €199 on pre pay for the christmas (which expansys sim free price suggests) market they would make a killing, it's the phone every young lad wants.

I'm half tempted to buy it again:)

Nice one. The screen on my Galaxy S has been a bit fubar lately, so I've been looking for a decent new phone without having to pay a fortune or sign up for 18 month contracts. Just ordered this from the Irish site, as the price difference is mere pennies, and it'll be express delivery as opposed to standard mail form the UK site.

    Roll on Friday fortnight...

would it be worth waiting a few weeks? theres no mention of it being for a limited time or anything so it more than likely will be dropped by everyone else.

I dunno it's hard to know, Once apple make an announcement it's going to be carnage, HP just proved if you want to kick apple's ass you need to do it on price and people will buy it. Maybe sony has learned something recently.

Personally I'd never buy anything from a tomorrow shop. If that's the new price it'll still be there the 1st of October, but expect demand to be high but i'd also say sony distributors are sitting on a lot of stock that hasn't moved so it could also be a once off deal while there trying to shift stock.

At that price it's a steal.

I think I'll wait a few weeks and see if it hits €200.

Once there's a price drop in these things they seldom go back up.

It could be a case expansys are sitting on a load of stock and just want to blow them out. I doubt it but it could be, price drop is 100% on the cards but i'm not so certain it will be that dramatic.

    Edit:
It looks like sony have slashed the price for Q4, just not official yet. Firesale anyone?

It didn't get great reviews and I hear they plan on updating it soon

There's been a few updates already, it's the OS (Android) that needs to be polished to integrate better with the sony software but it by no means it should be avoided, at it's current latest update it's pretty good. Most of the reviews were done before any update.
If your into gaming with real buttons not tapping your fingers on a pain of glass there's no better phone or anything even close to it out there period. (well besides a nokia n-gage).
If you have an xbox or playstation you'll get why this phone rocks and at that money it's the best bang for your buck your going to get anywhere, get a sim only deal and it'll have paid for itself before the warranty is up.

Yeah I can't play most touch screen games at all.

Touchscreen games suck. I don't know if prodding a piece of glass should even be considered gaming.
I'm off to carve someone up in Gears, Real Game, Real Buttons, Real People, Chainsaw optional:)

I waited and waited for this to come out in Ireland on Meteor, when I got it I payed 260 for it and am tied down to a 2 year contract :(

But, its a great phone; for playing games, reading comics, the android market, internet radio, the list is endless.

I will say the selection of ps1, playstation certified games is crap, theres about 7, and while they're good games, its just not enough and noone seems to be buying the ones already there. However, this christmas should be the most competitive year so far for smart phones and tablets, and sony's range of playstation certified devices is coming out very soon, meaning the amount of games should increase exponentially very soon, I hope. I heard something about sony announcing 150 titles for it, only time will tell.

Could you order and cancel before Oct 7th if something cheaper comes along?

I presume they don't charge your card till shipment?

For those who feel the software catalogue is lacking.

    http://psp.dashhacks.com/2011/09/07/psxperia-convert-any-psx-game-to-xperia-play-format/#more-20237

you first need to save your *ahem* original PS1 discs to ISO format on the PC, but I imagine there are plenty of other tweaks to get some nice games on there.

    also - emulators :D:D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,028 ✭✭✭d31b0y

Have one. It's awesome for gaming. Don't expect top of the range hardware though. Still the best phone I have ever bought. If you want a dual purpose device (gaming and phone obv) then you need this phone. Plenty of development over on xda too.

how long does the battery last while gaming & surfing the net etc,
is it good for a couple of days or does it die in a few hours like most smart phones.

You wont get 2 days with gaming and internet. But I have heard 1 day even with gaming a good bit which is very respectable these days. Best thing is to look up some reviews or youtube vids from owners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,587 ✭✭✭DesperateDan

Yeah its easy to run all the older emulators on it, Snes, GBA, Megadrive, a bit fussier to get ps1 games working flawlessly. And the mobile internet seems to be the biggest drain on the battery by far for me, you should easily be able to game 3-4 hours during the day and just charge at night. And who needs more mobile gaming than that?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,664 ✭✭✭pah

    Just ordered :)

Use voucher code 10EXP for €10 off being €230.51 in total ;)

Now to sell my iphone 4 16gb 1 yr old, whats it worth?

My friend has one and I wouldn't have a problem with the size or weight. It has a good feel to it.

Download the Sony Updater, that phone has had a fair few updates, it's a bit pants out of the box.

Prices haven't dropped on the Networks here this month, Meteor came down to to €379 in bricks and mortar shops since friday but there still up around €479 online the same as o2, voda and 3.
This is a safe bet bargain this month, the networks won't be coming down to the expansys price by the looks of it.

Chances are they'll be on ebay unlocked and delivered for a £25 premium, like the zte blade/san francisco was

Is that to a UK address or an Irish address? Was looking at this phone, will be over in the UK in a few weeks but the t-mobile and argos deals seem to be online only and I'm assuming you have to post to a UK address.

Payment was through Paypal and it allowed me to use an Irish address. Although, it is still possible that I will get an e-mail along the lines of "Sorry, we cannot ship to Ireland etc etc".

    Hopefully not! :p

It's very easy. Costs about €15....

See here. If you contact blagus on XDA-dev, he will sort everything out for you.

Please note that this solution will require you to make a testpoint connection to GND (basically, use a paperclip to connect one point of the phone to a point under the battery).

I have done this and it works a treat. You will also get your bootloader unlocked if it needs to be which will allow you to flash custom kernels and roms.

It could be a risk buying from here as the quote below taken from their website states the following.
**We can deliver anywhere in the UK and Northern Ireland (unless otherwise stated) as well as Channel Islands via our partner Ship2me. We are unable to deliver to the Isle of Man, Isles of Scilly, Orkney, Shetland and Western Scottish Islands, BFPO addresses, or the Republic of Ireland. For these areas, please make enquiries at your local store.

Every sim-free phone i bought since my release day 7650 has been from them. Only problem i've ever had was something showing as in stock but actually wasn't when i ordered

A couple of times i've had stuff arrive within 21 hours of ordering

Really tempted to pull the trigger on the expansys one but I just have a feeling I'll regret paying the extra in a few days if a cheaper deal comes along
