Just imagine if they'd throw in a couple of bikes as a surprize...

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,504 ✭✭✭TheChrisD

Oh my god, super excited now. Just checked their track list and they're giving all the variants available for Sonoma: NASCAR, IndyCar, the full circuit, and the dragstrip :D

Disappointed that's there's no Silverstone Arena though :(

Leave them out imo. Wasn't a fan of them in PGR4. Leave bikes to the bike games.

    Whooo!
    I have 2.2 million Credits and 60+ Decals in Forza 3! :D

I loaded up Forza 3 there yesterday to check where I was in it. I was level 41 and half way through season 5, had about 2.2mil and then it hit me. I had lost my VIP status, plus the extra tracks that came with the collectors edition of F3. I checked Live and they were not ticked off even though I still have the scratch cards I used and the codes were used under my profile on release day. I still had the two car packs that come with the CE though.

This better not happen with Forza 4.

I placed my order in Gamestop on Thursday.

I think I'm the only one who found the last game a bit dull. I thorougly enjoyed Forza 2 and definitely got my value out of playing it, but the third one just left me cold for some reason. Things like the rewind feature and the ridiculously unrealistic engine swaps also frustrated me.

    i love engine swaps.

    mk1 mx5 with rotar 13b engine was sweet :D

i cant understand why the rewind feature would annoy anyone? its only in sp and its completely up to you whether you want to use it or not  will be getting this next week hopefully, whats the best price around guys?

I've an MX5 with the 3 rotor engine swap in FM3, it's about 900hp never wants to go in a straight line lol :D

Yup. Had my one up to 500hp I think. Most fun car ever. Sound was unreal too!

That will be my first car to buy. I hope there is mk2 one, if not: mk1 will do too :)

Yes, those engine swaps are fine because they are realistic.

It's the fact that you can shove a V8 from an Alfa 8C into a MiTo without absolutely any modification that gets my goat. I like my racing games to reflect what is possible in reality.

As I said above, I like my racing games to reflect reality. You can't rewind time in real life, so why should you be able to in a game that is 'largely' supposed to be a driving simulator?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

It's your choice to use these options though so I'm not sure how they'd effect the way you play the game... If you don't want to stick a 8c engine in a mito don't, same with the rewind.. don't use it. U can turn it off in the settings anyway... The game is made to suit all levels of gamers. Some want to go crazy with mods and rewind a crash to make a correction... Some don't. You have the choice to do these things...

And to be honest, I'm glad the game doesn't reflect reality otherwise I'd be stuck driving a van and a red 99' micra!

There are several unrealistic racing games out there like Need For Speed, which are purely arcade. Why can't the more casual gamers flock to that?

Forza and Gran Turismo should be for the real petrolheads who want an experience that is similar to real life. The fact that the developers give you the facility to plug and play different engines and drivetrains into cars with blatant disregard to the physical engineering possibilities of real life dissappoints me personally. It makes you wonder if the game is actually produced by real car people or those 'petrolheads' who are of the Top Gear generation.

I mean, what is the point of putting all your concentration and effort into a race when you can simply rewind the mistakes you make? I know they're not putting a gun to your head to use this feature in the game, but it still doesn't inspire confidence in the principles behind it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

It's business, they have to appeal to as wide an audience as possible and I think Forza does that very very well, more so than any other racing game out there... For realism there's games like iRacing etc. For lunacy there's the likes of Burnout, NFS etc..

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,147 ✭✭✭mise

I dont really see how the rewind feature is a problem to be honest. As unklerosco has said use it or don't, its your choice, pay the game whichever way you like, especially as its only in single player.

And I think if the game was developed purely for petrolheads, it wouldnt have anywhere near the budget it has now, and most likely wouldnt be as good. They've got to cater for as many gamers as possible in order to sell copies. I reckon they've found a good balance

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

Volvoman, I know where you coming from with all this, but you can't have perfect simulator.

That rewind thing can be disabled, so you won't use it. On ladderboards you get marked for using it, so your time does not count much if you use it.

Engine swaps are fun. Yup they can make no sence sometimes, but it's there.

The thing I like about forza, that it gives you ability to do so, and then if you want, you can use it, if you don't want, then it's cool too.

Anyway, I cant wait for Friday. It was awile since I played some racing games. Forza4 timing couldn't be better.

  • Registered Users Posts: 884 ✭✭✭zefer

Just played it here in work very impressive. Graphics are brilliant and so is the lighting. (used the top gear track)

Voice recognition in the game works very well also.

I was told Car soccer would be in forza 4.
Is this true or a complete lie

I'm getting my copy from Gamestop. I think it's €45 for the standard copy and they give you five free cars when you pre order.

I'm not bothering with the collector's edition this time.

I sincerely hope it's the latter.

No, but Top Gear style bowling is.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,174 ✭✭✭✭Captain Chaos

The Forza 4 season pass is on Live now for 2400MSP. It is for 6 car packs each containing 10 cars. Not including the BMW collectors edition DLC pack or the American V8 pre-order DLC pack.

That's 6 packs at a 30% discount than if you buy them all as they are released.
The first pack is out next month and one pack per month there after.

Having interviewed the lead developer, I can assure you car soccer exists.

Not really my type of game, but the preview suggested car pornography on a ludicrously explicit scale. The assists are an excellent decision, and the game is completely customisable. TBH, anyone who dismisses them entirely is only being elitist. The game the hardcore racers have always loved is there, but it's fully playable for newbies too. That is not a bad thing, despite some people misinterpreting 'accessibility' as a bad word.

Also, insane marketing push for this. There was an ad on TV there that seemed to last around two minutes.

So im being elitist because i only race my sims with all aids off?
When im simracing i want total realism,i dont want driving assists of any form.
I think its fine for games to offer assists on or off options but to label those that prefer to not use them elitist is a ridiculous statement.

I meant anyone who is entirely hostile to their existence is elitist, which they are, not people who play simracing.

There'll always be a place for hardcore racing sims. It's only fair to acknowledge not everyone wants to play that way, and to give out about the assists being there when they're 100% optional is silly.

Forza 4 is a game for both groups, and that's only to be encouraged.

    On topic:

I won't be getting that pass. I preordered collectors edition and by the looks of it, there are alot of cars with it. Plus I heard they mix and match system with cars. So I'll get only stuff I want.
