It's released September 14th and it's well past midnight in New Zealand. Why should 'they' have to wait!?

    *sob* *cute, well-acted cough* :(

Lol, they are usually a bit late getting the games out. You could just buy a saturn copy and DHL it to yourself :P

Knowing my luck if I imported Radiant Silvergun now I'd get collared by An Post. I'll stick with the XBLA for now. :D

I might actually get this at some stage as my original copy never gets played. Is there any other decent shmups on xbla does anyone know? (regardless of region)

Yep, check the SHMUP PORN thread. I've listed a good few in there, all 80 MSP each too.

I do own Sapphire, but only as part of the PSP PC Engine Best Collection. I can only dream of owning the real deal! :(

Pah, white truffle pâté is for commoners :p

I don't know how people can keep sealed games. Firstly you never know if they work or not (it's rare but I got a brand new Medal of Honour that was faulty with no scratches and also copies of Castlevania the new generation and lethal enforcers 2 for the megadrive brand new but were faulty). Secondly tearing open that sealed copy of Maken X yesterday was very satisfying. Never let me near anyones sealed collection.

xbla games usually don't come out until around noon or later if I recall correctly. So probably not worth sitting near an xbox furiously checking the marketplace until sometime tomorrow afternoon. Or for NZ sometime around midnight.

Funny to think that the gasses given off by the booklet of a sealed game are probably ruining the disc as they're unable to escape the package :D

Shut up, shut up, shut up.

I'm sure the gas can escape through micro fractures in the plastic, only visible with an electron microscope, RIGHT.

But seriously. I don't believe in keeping sealed games, unless you have another original copy that you can play.
I'm not a big collector of them but any I have are doubles so I can also play them.

    Edit:
Plus I think the amount of rare games I have is fairly low anyway when compared to some of the people here.

Very true. Sapphire and Darius Alpha owners only bathe in goats milk and wash their hair with Veuve Clicquot Grand Dame.

PSP Sapphire owners bathe in toilet water and wash their hair with a box of Barry's. :pac:

It's still not on XBLA but apparently it's appeared on Partnernet. Anyone able to confirm?

edit: I'm hearing rumours now it will be appearing on the dashboard around 10am GMT. Can anyone check round that time?

And I'm not fecking about with MS Point cards so I can use my fake UK account!

There's a certain horrible irony to that :(

I'm going to give it a week or so and see if the price of the game drops on Fleabay and pick myself up a copy.

I wonder if the superb Harmful Park will ever come to XBLA, or is it doomed to be a collectors item for the uber rich and dedicated collector?

I had a look last night and they don't seem to have budged. Still around the £100-£120 mark. Which is what, about €130 to €150?

Be interesting to watch over the next few weeks alright. Even if the standard going rate doesn't drop, you might get the odd seller freaking out and getting rid of it cheap quickly.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

Probably as much chance of Harmful Park coming to XBLA as Sega producing a new console alas. :(

I wonder if Cho Aniki will though...?

It's only just after dawning on me now that this means Radiant Silvergun will finally be in English. I had just assumed in my head that everything would still be in Japanese :D Will have to try to download it for that alone.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,392 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Sure it's all in english other than the voice overs? And the story isn't exactly shakespeare.

The game has a very cinematic vibe. It will be nice to finally know what the hell everyone is saying. Shakespeare or not!

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,392 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Played the demo. Great to finally be able to play the game on an arcade stick. Demo is criminally short though. I'll have to put soe money on the O2 card today!

Played it for a while there. Huzzah for steep learning curves! Getting there slowly.

Little disappointed at the graphical makeover though. Seems a bit half-assed compared to Ikaruga? Not that it makes much if any difference, but seens like higher res textures only. But then Ikaruga had better graphics in the first place.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,392 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

There's a lot more work gone into this than Ikaruga. Ikaruga was simply up Res-ed. Radiant Silvergun seems to have been programmed from the ground up or at least heavily modified. First there's a dramatic increase in the quality of the textures and 2D art meaning that this was all redrawn. Also the 2D plane backdrops are now polygonal it seems instead of using fancy mode 7 effects. Also the transparencies in the old game were all ugly mesh effects but are full alpha effects in the remake. It's quite a remarkable makeover actually. Also there's the bloom effects that I'm not digging since they are more distracting than anything but it looks like you can turn them off.

Also I think you can change back to the old graphics in the options, will have to check later when I'm home.

Tips for people new to the game. Don't bother playing this with the 6/7 button console set up. Use the 'claw'. All you need is 3 buttons to play the game. hold the joystick/pad like an arcade stick with your 3 fingers hovering over the 3 primary weapon buttons and learn the combinations for the advanced weapons. It's confusing at first but will stand to you when you get better at the game. o1s1n can attest to this.

Also it's not explained but pressing all 3 buttons unleashes the radiant sword which is a close range attack. It's useless except that it can be used to negate pink bullets. Collect 10 pink bullets and when you activate the sword again you get a heavy damage smart bomb effect that leaves you invulnerable for a few seconds. So when you see pink bullets get close and keep spamming the radiant sword so it swings around you!

Is it like R-Type in that you can switch graphic modes or do you just play the Saturn mode?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,392 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

No, there's a tonne of graphics options in the options screen. I only had a quick glance. In college now so no way to check but it looked like there was options for the old graphics, they even had 5 transparency options, 2 alpha effects and 3(!) ugly mesh effects for authenticity.

I have to say the bloom is pretty but very distracting, I'll be turning that off.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,392 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Oh another thing, watch out for the R-type homage boss in Stage 1. Probably my favourite boss in the whole game.
