Must have been an under charged round, what ammo were you using? Does the barrel look ok inside and out? If it was me i'd probably get it checked out just to be on the safe side

Take the bolt out give it a good once over and inspect the barrel from both ends and give it a good clean . I bought a brick of CCI mini mags a few weeks ago and noticed a few under powered rounds Id say chances are thats all it was. Usually CCI are the higher end quality wise, have had alot of trouble with remington ammo. Chances are it was just a bad round .

You'll be fine or rather your rifle will be fine.

A .22 bullet is much softer than the bore of a barrel. Give a serious scrubbing and get shot/rid of the ammo. No harm to put up some batch numbers. Could be an issue, and would be helpful to others.

I really wouldn't worry about it, but fair play for catching it. Some lads wouldn't notice and try fire another straight after without checking.

A few years back, I applied for my first rifle which was to be a .22 magniun, the licence came through and went and collected the gun, delighted with myself. Headed off up the back fields that afternoon with the dad to zero it in and try it out. Filled the mag with amo but then had trouble closing the bolt. Rang the dealer and he said he was'nt sure what the issue was and to bring it back. But in my innocence I decided to hand feed the smaller .22 bullets into the gun as the dealer has initally told me I could use both types of amo. I fired a few shots and the dad was passing remarks about the very bad groups I was getting. Then I hand loaded a high velocity .22 (not .22 magnium) into the gun and WHACK like a explosion next my head. Turned out I had been given a .17hmr by the dealer insted of the .22 magnium. Somehow the first few Eley subsonic went through the barrel (hence the bad groups), but the last one stuck in it and then I fired the high v round.
Any way the point of the story was that the dealer had a guy remove the blockage and I went with the .17HMR (after licence adjustment) which worked fine.
