    Hi there,

I'm Ciaran, heavily involved in the News Team of DCUfm and I presented the Movies show last year (G'wan The Picturehouse!) and like Cian said, helped out on loads of different shows as everyone does.

As for sessions, oh god yeah there's plenty of them. The station is really like a great big family, that loves drinking and general malark like that!

If there's anything Cian can't answer I'll do my best to do so. Like he said, shows need more than a presenter. There's a lot of stuff always going on behind the mic.

As for the News Team, we take it pretty seriously. Bulletins on the hour, sport ones too. And two current affairs show per week. If News is for you then you definitely want to get involved in this arm of DCUfm. The News Team is always looking for new recruits. Newswire (The Current Affairs show) needs researchers, presenters and plenty of stuff along those lines. If you've any questions in regards to this side of the station, ask away! We're gonna train everyone in on all they need to know anyways.

Drop in during Orientation Week to say hello and be sure to join on Clubs & Socs day.

    Sure, we're a lovely bunch!!

Oh god yes. We will be planning many outings, and advertising them heavily. Pizza has an odd habit of showing up in the studio when you least expect it, as well. But you didn't hear that from me.

    HAI DAR CIARAN!

Which reminds me. The first session shall likely be some sort of joint 20th birthday party between Ciaran and myself. Turning 20 on the first day of college, don't you know?

    Suits shall be encouraged.

    1: can I come?
2: do the chicks have to wear a suit too?

2: do the chicks have to wear a suit too?

1: Yes! And your friends can come too!
2: While the suggestions for chicks-in-suits are fewer, suits are still encouraged. Or at least a nice evening dress. Maybe a ball-gown. They don't let you into Coppers in just ANYTHING, these days.

More info shall be made available soon, and possibly broadcast on DCUfm in the days before it happens.

Well i don't like serious stuff, at all (that's what the lectures are for after all). Can we not have a show that just talks about "the morning after". College is all about the parties and nights out so can there not be a show dedicated to people sharing their stories from their nights out ? Where the best places are to go out and where aren't. I'd also like to interview people on campus and ask them some really strange questions and see how they answer.

I've just whipped up a preliminary form for people to fill out if they are interested in helping out at the station! We'll need everybody to fill one of these out at some point over the next few weeks, so you may as well get it over with now.

This is a bit of an experiment, and we are looking to do all application forms online. We might get in contact with you later requesting more details.

Below is quoted the "Get Involved" page from DCUfm.com. Please read!
DCUfm is always on the lookout for new volunteers to join the team.

Whether it’s news, sport, music, arts, talk or Irish language programmes, we want to hear from you. You can join as a presenter, or work behind the scenes editing or producing if you prefer.

    What we’re looking for:
    1. Commitment and reliability. Don’t say you’re going to do something if you’re not likely to be available.
    2. You can do as much or as little as you like, but be clear about what times you are / aren’t free.
    3. Radio listeners. To know what good radio sounds like, you should be a regular radio listener.
    4. Interested in a music show? Specify what specific genres you like and what bands you enjoy. Don’t say you like “all types” of music!
No previous experience is required – for many of our volunteers DCUfm is their first foray into the radio world. If you have recordings of previous work you’ve done, email your MP3s to us too. If the file is too big to attach, use websites like SendSpace or YouSendIt to upload the file and send us the link.

Once you have read the above, please click (NOPE! OFFLINE! See below) to start filling out the form. I know it's a bit long, but it used to be LOTS longer. We used to make people make an actual calendar of when they were free! Now, with the magic of the internet, you simply need to send us a link to your timetable. Magic!

Note that filling out this form does not mean you are exempt from attending any mandatory meetings held by DCUfm. There is a VERY important meeting at the start of the year where we explain how things work, and detail how training is going to work.

Filling out this form just means you get your interest in early, and we get a headstart on building up schedules.

We have temporarily taken the form offline as we make a few changes.

Well hello everyone, I'm Tracey DCU MPS's other PRO!
I really would encourage everyone to join mps and get stuck in with both FM and TV! Most of my best memories of first year apart from all the drunken ones either were in FM or with people from MPS or on our trips. Don't be scared of FM! I remember I got an e-mail saying that I was to be in the station for the next morning for the breakfast with two people I didn't I was TERRIFIED! I had no experience and didn't know anyone on the show! I'm so glad I did it though I made brilliant friends got great experience! The same is said for TV! PLEASE JOIN MPS it really is DCU's best society! Looking forward to seeing ye all clubs and socs day and if your really eager then on the 28th of October for Get to know MPS day!!!
    Tracey :D

I'm in the process of building a system which is going to introduce this very fear into people in the coming weeks. ;)

I agree, I came up with the idea for a show (Occam's Barbershop) and requested a cohost. It's pretty scary, meeting them for the first time. But Brendan and I are now a perfect on-air match, and learning to work with him to the point where we now just bounce off each other was hugely educational!

So, once you get that scary email which tells you who you will be working with and at what time, don't be worried. The people are statistically going to be awesome.

Also, the morning show shift (9am) is actually kind of awesome, since you get to eat pastries, drink coffee and read the papers in a nice warm room as everybody around you freezes in the snow come winter time.

    True story.

Hi guys, Sarah here. Sorry for not commenting on this thread earlier.. I'm doing Irish and Journalism (pretty excited now it's getting close!) and would love to get involved doing anything with MPS, especially with DCUfm :) I've done some work experience in local radio and newspaper in Wexford but they never let me into the studio in the radio station! :-P ( Perhaps with good reason! ) Anyway I'd love to get involved, and will see ye on soc's day! :)

Just popping in to say even if you only have a passing interest in radio, you still need to do this. I'm heading into my 4th year with the station and deciding to check out that first DCUfm meeting back in 1st year was the best decision I ever made.

Also get involved with sport if that's your interest, I hear that Action Replay thing is decent enough :P

I have some experience with news reading on air. If you're stuck, I'm your woman!!

I meant to sign up for this last year, but I think I was under the impression you had to be a Communications student or something.

This year, though, I'll be repeating parts of second year (:o) so I'll have some free time, and I'd like to get involved - is it just a case of joining the MPS on Clubs and Socs day and going from there?

ya thats all ya have to do! from there you will be on e-mail lists and whatnot and there will more than likely be a FM meeting either before or after clubs and socs day that will be plastered around the campus in the form of posters!

SPREAD THE WORD DCU MPS TV AND FM ARE NOT JUST FOR COMMUNICATIONS STUDENTS ANYONE CAN JOIN FROM ANY COURSE ALL YA NEED IS TO LOVE MEDIA! :D

This. I'm a Science student and I'm involved with it as much as possible. MPS welcomes everyone, and I mean everyone. I could easily have been brushed aside for some Communications or Journalism student, but instead I was welcomed with open arms :)

If you've any interest in radio (even as a thing on the side), you should join DCUfm. Plus, it looks great on the CV:D

Thanks to everybody for chiming in! DCUfm LOVES getting people who are doing varied degrees, because we can always use them for some show or other. Join MPS!

Just to give people a quick heads-up of where we are now - We have had a wonderfully large number of people click through and fill out their details, but we still have room for more! If you want to be part of DCUfm this coming year, you need to click HERE and fill out the form.

    Hop to it!
