I've left 40e beind. Called into AIB, filled in a form and they balance the ATM and if it's over you get it back. If not youre entitled to the CCTV footage of the machine to take a case against whoever stole it! Luckily mine was 'eaten' by the machine so got it back!

  • No, but I've done other stupid things when I had a lot on my mind or just had some bad news. It's quite easily done if your mind is just elsewhere.

I don't really get how people do this.

Me too, it's a bit like ordering a nice pint and then walking away from it when it's put in front of you.

    How is it possible?

Ya :( today. Walked away and left 500e behind me! No sign of it when I went back :(

    Just an update folks.

The cctv from the bank has been handed over to the law, they are hoping that whoever picked up the money will hand it in.
Fat chance I suppose :( these scum dont care that they've taken my rent money.

Anyway, there were several people and cars in the vicinity and the thief will be caught as they were seen.:(

Done it myself at an ATM, at a petrol station with 200 euro, went back and it was gone.

The bank will have a record of it. I rang my bank, they said theres a delay built into the ATM where if your moneys not taken, the Atm will swallow it back up and show a profit.

I had to report it, and fill out loads of forms, but eventually that ATM showed up as been in profit, and the bank sent my money back.

€500? I presumed you were joking. Jesus. That kind of money means a lot to lose, unfortunately some people will only see it as ''a win'' and neglect to to think about the repercussions it can have on the person who lost it.

Now usually I'm too cheap to leave money behind me, but my own situation was a little more stupid, stuck in Charles de Gaulle airport at 6am, had no money on me until I realised I still had €40 in my account. Unfortunately ATMs in France often supply the cash after the card, so I walked away, delighted with myself, while some lucky Pierre walked away with my breakfast food money. It's not so much the money that hurts, it's the sickening feeling of stupidity, the feeling that you might as well have set fire to that money for all the good it did.

Happened to me in Barcelona a few years ago! It was the last day of the trip, I had €70 euro left in my pocket which I figured would do me for the day... until I got robbed on the metro!

So went to the ATM to take out another €60, and I'm gonna blame it on the shock, but took my card and walked away without the money! Luckily the lady after me in the queue came running after me with my money!

Bottom line is, Barcelona's got its good guys and its bad guys!

Never left money behind but a good few years ago some ATM machines had a glass panel that used to slide down over the keys and the screen etc. One night langers after the disco I went up to one to get money for a taxi and left my burger down on the ATM machine , a couple seconds after I got the money the glass came back down trapping the burger!!! At the time I thought it was so funny so left it there and went accords the road to see the next lad who used the ATM, in the end we got bored and went home. Can only imagine the next poor old locked sod to trying to get money out and getting a free burger :) how's that for banking customer service? Free burger with every withdrawal.

I often wondered why they got rid of those sliding panels they'd stop a lot of the card skimming crack now !!
