    i agree with that , tinned fish is goog. also i cover the bottom of cage in mud so the mink doesnt feel the steel of the cage when it walks in

    Mackeral is supposed to be good , right time of the year to get them in numbers of the rocks there well in now. Can be frozen and used as much as you like.

    Sardines in oil for Winter, smoked kippers for Summer.

    I've caught 2 mink in the last couple of weeks using mackeral. It starts to stink after a day or two and the mink can smell it a mile away! If you don't want to waste good mackeral, just use the heads.

    sardines in oil not ketchup:D in saying that if you only bait every second or third time and have it hidden in a nice tunnel curiosity will pull them in

    LIDL tinned mackerel in oil is the only bait I use.

    I would recommend using salmon heads mackeral scraps and fish oil. Your local fishmonger will gladly give you fish scraps free of charge!! It helps if the bait is fresh and not let rot. I have over fifty mink caught this year with salmon and mackeral scraps. Trap placement also is the key.
    Good luck with it!!

    +1 on the mackerel heads. Get some pilchard oil from the tackle shop, makes a world of difference.

    PUT CAGE ON TOP OF SARDINES INSTEAD OF INTO IT.COVER TOP AND SIDES WITH MUD AND VEGATATION.

    i find you can bulk up your tin of sardines in oil by adding more oil yourself n useing a hand held blender mix it all up n add a good bit of sunflower oil n blend it all up you inrease the bulk and you can place drops of this leading up to your cage trap etc €1.05 to €1.40 isnt that cheap for a can and keep the cans for putting the feed into inside in the cage

    I have never used a steel trap yet to catch mink, yet I have had hundreds. 3" plastic down spout, and a extended litter picker upper, bait is tuner in the tin in brine, its always worked for me.

    PLASTIC PIPE BETWEEN 36"/40"LONG X 3"/ 3 1/2",ROCK IN THE BOTTOM OR WHAT HAVE YOU,SO IT CANT DIG OUT 6 1/4" HOLES 6" FROM THE BOTTOM TO LET EXCESS WATER OUT PUT IN GROUND AT A ANGLE SO AS THE MINK CANT RUN OUT AND NOT TO STEEP,THEN THROW YOUR TUNA IN,KEEP END OF TUBE 1" ABOVE GROUND I HAVE FOUND THERE LESS CAUTIOUS OF THE PIPE THAN THE STEEL TRAP,HOPE THIS HELPS.THE PAIN WITH THIS TRAP IS SETTING THE PIPE IN,I USE A POST CUTTER TYPE BIT,YOU CAN PUT THE PIPE TRAPS AFEW FEET FROM THE WATERS EDGE,WATCH YOU FINGERS,LOL

    In internet terms;
    • Cap locks on - Shouting
    • Cap lock off - talking.

    Plus all caps make it very hard to read, and most won't bother so your posts/points are lost.

    Easier to buy a couple a cages, and you'll find it's easier to dispatch from them too! Also these yokes aren't very humane, with most who use them just leaving the mink to starve or drown in them! Also there's the legality of the so called trap to bare in mind, in this day and age with lots more eye's on what people are up to, this sort of thing could get a lad into trouble! Just my opinion!

    I heard someone say that Black pudding works well. Majority of people just use very smelly fish. But the blood in the black pudding is supposed to attract them well. Can't really say if it works, but in theory it sounds good. But fish seems like the safest and most solid option.
