Where would I find compression shorts? Do the big sports chains have them?
Elverys, Marathon, Lifestyle? This will be my first pair, so I'd prefer a bricks and mortar store where I can try them on, rather than buying online.

Elverys might, but Marathon and Lifestyle are only good for football jerseys :) You could also try Amphibian King or Runways

I wear these under my shorts. They prevent chafing but the shorts still ride up between the thighs, but it's not uncomfortable anyway.

Cheers RayCun, none of those 2 stores near me.
Anything in the Limerick or Kerry area?

John Buckley Sports in Cork? They're the closest I've heard mentioned.

Wow - it doesn't take much for a thread to go off track eh? ;) - sorry, pun intended.

Thanks for that pic Patrick_K - put me right off the dinner!
@ brownian, I had to look up that particular affliction, thankfully I don't suffer from it (yet) :)

Back on topic now. I think I'm going to try a pair of Compression shorts.

As I mentioned, I'm new to running. All I have is ordinary Nike, Adidas running shorts and the new Nike Tempo ones.

Stupid question, but how tight are these meant to be worn?

Buy em online. They're stretchy by nature. Whatever your jocks size is should do you.

Elverys should have them if it's a big enough store. I know the one in Galway stocks both Canterbury and Under Armour. Nike also do a long leg tight fitting base layer short. Expect to pay €60 to €70 for Under Armour though, the Canterbury ones are around €35 if memory serves me correctly. Keep an eye on Lidl offers though, got a pair there cheap enough but they sell out quick.

I bought a pair of Adidas 7" shorts with the inbuilt tight under layer and they can be annoying, after washing it usually takes half a mile of pulling them up before they stop trying to turn into ankle warmers.

I was in jjb in dundalk today, these shorts are on sale for 15 beans each!
few nice deals on tshirts too, got myself a few pairs and tees:cool:

Thanks dunner - 15 Euro is great value - picked up a smaller size in these 2-in-1 shorts, and it seems to have done the trick.

Thanks for the heads-up on JJB sale.
