Not this afternoon anyways... our student numbers aren't active for another few hours or so because CAO only closed yesterday afternoon so TCD only got our information about choices last night

checked it again there... it was working for me too apart from the fact that the course number was different to my course code? I'm doing science but it said "015" as opposed to "071"? May ring them in the morning :/

Seems like they're telling us all different things

Well going on what they told me on the phone today I sent them in the FRS1 and GF1 forms. I did write a note on the end of the GF1 saying that I have applied for the grant and will inform them of the decision asap.

    I'm sure they'll contact me if there's a problem :o

I did the same, but I didn't pay the €2000 yet. Are you supposed to pay the €2000 if your not sure whether you'll get the grant?

I honestly don't know at this stage..I thought from what they told me on the phone that I didnt have to pay it until a decision was made on the grant but then it seems they told someone else here that they have to pay it now if they dont know the grant decision yet.

I imagine that they'll send some sort of fee demand out to us..Anyone else know?

The course number for science is 015. You'll see it like this on some forms but don't worry, it's just the difference between the CAO assigned TR071 and the trinity course code 015, either is sufficient to mean your course.

As for the reg fee, I think when I did it, in 2009, the form was a bit different and didn't specify that you had to be in receipt of the grant, but as far as I know this is how it goes now:
-Apply for grant and send the GF1 in. If you're successful you're nicely set up, no further hassle. If you're unsuccessful, not only do you have to pay the reg fee but you also need to pay an extra fee for messing them around, between €300 or €400.

    OR

-Apply for the grant and don't send the GF1 in. In this circumstance you pay the reg fee. If you get the grant you'll have the reg fee reimbursed to you, so you wont be out of pocket. If you're unsuccessful, no worries, you've paid your fee.

Now don't blame me if I'm wrong, this is just my experience of the grant system and it might be different for you guys.

I think I'll pay the €2000, just to be on the safe side.

The first option sounds like exactly what I was told by the fees office on the phone yesterday morning. I'm hoping its right cos I dont know how quickly I can come up with €2000 if they look for it lol..

This is all so confusing! I really don't know what to do about this grant and I really want to get cracking with these forms... :/
