Boards A/R/T 8 week loss challenge - Part three

Now unlike those on the fitness forum we will have guideline and not rules as those training for larger races have different needs and a naughty reward can help focus us towards finishing that extra mile etc in training or a race.

Also there is no point doing anything today that you can't see yourself doing in 6 months or a year. We are all trying to create a new us and some lifestyle changes will get us there quicker than a list of RULES !

So we'll weigh in each tuesday and try to do it at the same time each week. As in morning or evening.

We'll ask you to post at the start with a short bio, fitness goal and starting weight in total pounds.

Then a weekly update with starting weight and current and how your week went training wise etc. We'll then do a table each week showing how all are doing ( not a leaderboard as this isn't the biggest loser )

Also you must measure each week as muscle weighs more than fat and if you lose fat and replace it with muscle you can gain on the sacle but lose inches off your body. We'll just do 2 inches updates in the middle and at the end.

Below you'll find some help on measuring, how to prepare and on diet ( these are thanks to g'ems )

    How to Prepare
    Measurement Guidelines
    Diet I
    Diet II
    Diet III

You may want to reference the Fitness:The Basics (Incl Diet and Nutrition) thread aswell as it's another great thread put together by the fitness forum guys. Transform has some good videos on that thread too which might have people more inclined to follow the no junk food guideline.

    Here are the guidelines

    1. eat healthy - take the healthy option when possible
    2. keep well hydrated
    3. keep a food diary and read labels on food to see what in your food.
    2. exercise and prepare properly for your race
    3. Limited booze, junk food and caffine
    4. don't starve yourself the day of/before a weigh in
    5. Measure your body as you can stay the same on the scales but can loose inches
    6. Weigh yourself at the same day and time each week were possible as your weight can change a lot during the day.
    7. Your only in competition with yourself so jut because someone loses 2 pounds more than you don't get down over it.
    8. Never mind "no pain no gain".......i rather "no effort to gain"
    9. Share youe experiences, good and bad. They can help others and we can help you.

So let the fun begin !

You can join in anytime over the peroid and remember your doing this for yourself in the long run ( excuse the pun )

    Hi Woodle,

Thanks for the thread - was really looking forward to it. Have just picked up an injury last night on a run so im not sure how long it will take me to get over it but I'll give this a go anyway. :)

Starting weight for me is 184 lbs and waist is 36 inches.

Credit to elvis for keeping this going. I'm finding it a great help in that it's holding my concentration and is making me think more about my food intake.

and with an injury this should be a great help in keeping you in check :D

Even if your injuried or feel your at a good weight STAY INVOLVED, it can help you stay at that weight be keeping yourself in check.

I am setting myself a target of 209 pounds which is 20 in 10 weeks but i will be stepping up my training for DCM and i know that every pound i get down makes thise 26.2 miles easier.

Good luck to all and final weigh in will be on 28 Oct

Meant to join this last go around. I have lost a **** load of weight over last 15/16 months, so always keep an eye on it, so wanted some way to keep me honest and track what the weight does over the latter part of marathon training.

Will probably join in with this again. I'm struggling at the moment with motivation and keeping on the straight and narrow food wise and exercise wise.

I will probably be weighing myself on a Thursday or Friday as well.

Ive lost 9 lbs in total over the last 2 challenges. If I lost that amount over the course of this one I would be thrilled. I am really motivated at the moment and the changes I am making are fitting so well into my life that I dont see this as a diet, its now becoming a way of life for me.

Great stuff Bally8, I'd love to knock 10 off in this period and get down to 160 but although I've lost alot, it's working out that I'm losing 1lb every 2 weeks.

A pound every 2 weeks woddle? Don't be shy, you are knocking them off every 3 hours!!

    Well spotted :D
I was 171 when I last checked but after putting it in the table I said go weigh yourself and be accurate.
When I came home from Wexford I had gone to 175 from 169, so much cider and eating out it was unreal, I was a right pig but couldn't control myself

1lb every 2 weeks is excellent Woddle, they say its the best way to keep it off if you're losing it like that. I doubt I will lose 9lbs more over the 10 weeks. Im getting closer and closer to my goal weight so I think it might get more difficult to see rapid changes. Still I wont let that stop me trying:D. Im the lightest I've been all year, thats great motivation in itself.

Setting myself a target of 14 lbs loss for this challenge. Having lost around 20lbs in the last 16 weeks, this is just about achievable if I keep up the exercise and better eating!

I feel a bit out of place here. I'm not trying to lose weight for health or appearance, instead I'm trying to find out if a lower weight will improve my running times, and I'm not even convinced that it would. If I could get to 140 pounds by next spring I'd have a better understanding. Because I think that reducing caloric intake would have a negative effect on my training, I'm trying to come down very slowly - eating healthily, cutting out junk food, trying to keep my chocolate habit under control.

I lost 3 pounds in the last challenge, which is just about what I wanted to see. Another 2 or 3 pounds by the time DCM comes around would be great.

I'm going to sit this one out. I lost weight in the first one, put some on in the second one and now have a holiday coming up which will interfere with my diet.

    Good luck all!

I'm back again to give this another go, I've put on 4lbs since the end of plan2 but that’s mainly due to eating like a horse for the last 2 week preparing for gaelforce. My waist has stayed at 92cm so I'm hoping I've only put on muscle, even with the gain I'm still down 7lbs overall :-)

It would be great to get down to 168lbs but this time I'm only going to concentrate on my waist, it would be great to get rid of what’s left of the belly!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,199 ✭✭✭G-Money

I've really lost my mojo at the moment with regards to running and eating healthily. Just feeling pretty down about stuff. So to avoid depressing myself further, I'm not going to weigh myself for a few weeks as I'm certain I've put on a few lbs.

Instead I'm going to get back on track food wise and get back running. I'm thinking I'd like to increase my running to 4 or 5 times a week, doing at least 30 minutes each day, but probably a bit longer on a Tuesday, Thursday and at the weekend.

I don't know if running 3 times a week is enough for me to get into a habit of doing it. I feel like I need to be doing it more than that.

Will see how it goes. Sounds great in theory anyway!

Hi all, would like to get in on this if I can. Did a bit of lurking around while the last challenge was going on but it was gone beyond half way at that stage.
Am new to running and although it is a struggle sometimes I am enjoying it immensely, hopefully it'll help shed the pounds also. First 10k completed at the weekend.

I'd be delighted to lose 7lbs for the Oct 28th target deadline.
I've tried to enter my figures on that chart, without success. Can someone help me out here please.

    Current weight: 192lbs
    Current Waist size: 102cm's

I started the part two challenge but after a week I sprained my ankle so I didn't quite give up but I settled for maintaining my weight until I could run again so I'm quite happy I managed that! I can now run again but haven't done so for over 6 weeks so I'm nervous about getting back into it because I know my fitness has decreased dramatically! Any advice about how to ease myself back into running would be greatly appreciated, I used to be able to run 10km in 57 mins (not fast I know but I was never aiming to break any records I just run to keep fit and because I enjoy it!).

Anyway I'm hoping to lose half a stone and get back to being fit and running consistently again :)

Stayed the same this week which is brill as I was away for 3 days and ate a lot. However I did make much better choices than I would have in the past (not having dessert, eating fruit, fish, veg instead of the usual steak, steak, steak). My waist measurement is down 2cms!! Delighted with that:D

Down 2 lbs on last weeks weight (and yesterdays pre-race), probably still dehydrated!

Weight this week is 183.5 and waist is the same. had a problem with my achilles but it seems ok now and got a slow 2 mile run in last night. I know its only half a pound lost but considering the diet in the last week its a miracle!! I still havent figured out how to update the table so if someone could do the honours I would appreciate it....even better if someone could show me how id do it myself!!

Missed the start of this but will weigh myself in the morning and then every friday morning. Every 1lb less will help for DCM.

Just signing up for this now. Have put on a lb and a couple of CM since the last challenge. Not surprised as wife had a baby last week so the past few weeks nutrition has been all over the place. Would love to lose 9lb between now and marathon so we'll see how it goes. Will be weighing in on fridays from now on.

Didn't feel too well last week which affected my appetite and I subsequently lost 2 pounds. I don't really recommend losing weight that way and on past experience there is a decent chance that I'll put it back on again once recovered.

Can't believe I lost 4.5lbs this week!! Thats the most I've ever lost in a week or even in 2 weeks! But can anyone tell me is that fat lost or is a lot of it water weight? (I didn't take measurements last week and I probably should have but I'm not sure if I'm imagining it or if my waist looks a bit smaller?! But then again I'm probably just seeing things cause I'm so happy about the loss!!). I also probably didn't eat as much as I should have because I couldn't run up untill sunday so I was trying to cancel out my lack of exercise..

I went for a run last thursday and had to cut it short as my ankle started twinging quite a bit and I was afraid of making it worse after resting it for several weeks. But I went for a very short, very slow run on sunday and it was completely fine :D my fitness is down quite a lot after not running in well over a month at this stage... but my ankle is fine so I'm over the moon I can get back to running again and the -4.5lbs was just a bonus :D

Sorry for the ramble! I'm just really happy right now, even the dreaded 6th year and looming hours of study can't dampen my spirits at the moment!!:D:p

EDIT: I don't know what happened to the table one minute it was fine then when I tried to edit my post it's not showing up anymore!

Was a bit worried weighing myself in gym last night, as due to the knee injury I have done next to zero exercise of any type of description this week, I was also doing more than my fair share of drinking over this weekend after rugby and the super dubs!

So "all" I have been doing is eating properly and stretching exercises on my leg, and my weight is fractionally down, and waist is basically the same - so I will take that 100% of the time!
