Guys I have a T8 mod with only say 150/200 shots fired, I was wondering what maintenance or cleaning is required with a mod, and how often. If no maintenance needed, all the better.
Also when firing say 3 or 4 shot groups it heats up a lot, is this normal?, its on a 308.

The mod for me always gets much hotter than the barrel. It's thinner metal. When I take mine off I give it a squirt of WD 40 and leave it standing on some kitchen towel in a dry place. Seems to keep it nice and tidy. I'd say it's especially important on a Reflex design like the T8 as it doesn't strip down for cleaning.

IWM are you spraying the WD40 down the spout of the mod ??
If so do u then need to clean it through, and how?

I spray it down the back, where it contacts the barrel. I just leave it standing on the muzzle then. It doesn't even drain any onto the paper typically. Seems to do a decent job.

When i had my T8 i used to spray the crap out of with any generic gun oil, then give it a clean with a brush i originally bought for my alloy wheels ...........

............. then spray again with oil to remove any fouling. I then left it sit in a jar, muzzle down, and let the oil drain.

When it had drained for about an hour or so i'd bring it out and use the air line to blow out any remaining residue. This bit is not really necessary and you can just simply wipe as best you can with a cloth.

I kept a fairly good routine going on my T8 with regards to cleaning - it's a POS design though.
I got one of the Roedale mods off Edi from here - the same if not better performance - way shorter and lighter - completely strippable for cleaning.
I use it on the .22lr as well - just unscrew all the extra baffles as they're not needed. Makes for a great mod and smaller than the SAK.

Spray after use ASAP as it's the water condensation inside that starts to rot them. Use WD40 as its a water and oil (ish) repelant

    I've one on my .223.

As soon as you get home, put the T8 on a radiator, or in front of a fan heater (mind the bushing). This does two jobs, firstly it helps dry out any moisture, secondly it helps the WD40 you're about to spray inside to freely run around inside to coat the insides. So, mindful that the mod is at least warm, and possibly hot, spray WD40 into it. How much? I spray enough to make sure I think that amount will coat the insides, don't use too much though, no need to have the mod dripping! These two actions help stop the interaction between gunk in the mod and moisture turning into metal eating crap.

Second thing I do is to use regular gun oil on the outside of the mod and I then keep the mod off the rifle in an oily sock. Works so far.

(Just a note on the WD40, if it's practical for you to do so, then spraying the mod directly after you've finished shooting when the mod is hot is a better route than spraying after getting home. Just doesn't suit me so I wait until I'm home.)

i regularly spray gun oil into my t8 and rotate it so as to properly coat the inside of the mod then stand it in a warm dry place to dry out.
when i pick it up after drying i tap it in the palm if my hand, sometimes there can be loose carbon in the mod that came loose from the oil doing its job.
just put a hover to the end of it and keep shaking it until any loose material is sucked out. then i either use it as is or spray a little more oil in and leave it until i go shooting again. if i haven't used it for a while i will spray a bit of oil into it as a matter of maintenance

I take the mod off as soon as im finished shooting and spray it with WD40 when I get home.
I also clean out the barrel because I get a lot of carbon around the crown area.
Has anyone used a ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning a moderator ?
