Facilities look good. Any idea of membership? No details on site.

2 different gyms being discussed here folks.

Jacqui Skellys new place is flyefit.ie in Ranelagh (beside/above superquinn)
the-gym.ie is a well known PTs new venture based out of where Squash Ireland used to be (beside the Driver Testing place in Rathgar). He's going to have prowlers/tyres and stuff like that apparently.

Has anyone signed up to flyefit?

Im always apprehensive in joining a gym before it opens, as you will never know how busy it is.

Can anyone recommend any other gyms in the ranelagh area?

    thanks

I just checked the flyefit website , not opening until 29 th november this is a massive delay . I drove by the site and there was no construction work going the place was locked.

You are wrong . The site is not closed. It's locked from the front for public health and safety reasons. The architect, project manager ( a cool guy who chats to me when I,m getting my coffee fix from nick! ) and providers have rear access. I see them going in and out a lot. They are opening in November , yeah they are late but they are giving two months free membership to any one who is happy to wait for it to open ... Works for me!

How is it two months free membership when anyone who joined over the summer has already paid for two months membership of gym that isnt open?

You only pay 4 one month upfront to get the special offer €19. That covers the first month when it's open. December. I don,t pay anything else until 29th February! Thats jan and Feb free !!!! I paid by cc 0nline. If I like it I,ll set up a monthly DD online after February and I can pay month by month . You cancel it online when ever you like as theres no contract.

Well whoever this extremely well informed flyefit girlie person is , let me say this . It's BAD BUSINESS to over promise and underdeliver . I also noted a tardy response to the very polite people asking for an opening date on Facebook . If flyefit had given more info about delays , the poor impression wouldn't have been created . It's their own fault . I was ready to join flyefit but I went down to check out a new gym on Orwell road . The lady on the phone was honest about ongoing building work and there was none of that over promise under delivering crap . Of course I was not asked to pay upfront or in advance . I was told to cone back on Monday and if I was happy to think about joining . Ive worked out in gyms all over the world . Never been asked to pay for anything up front with a opening date months away

I would be absolutely stunned if this gym opens or remains open for a year or two.

I joined flyefit and paid in advance to get the special €19 per month rate. Seems fair to me. OK so they are late opening, so is Ben Dunne in Sandyford (4 months I think) so I'm happy to wait at €19 a month ...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19 dmalone

cause you don't have to pay again until March 2012 ..... if you signed up for the special rate of €19 a month ...

The three month delay is to assess the amount of people willing to pay upfront - and then go back to the bank to get working capital . So you never booked a flight in advance to get a better deal !!! The introductory special rate of €19 a month is a great deal for those willing to wait. You can sit there and BS all you like. Sound's like you'll miss out on the great rate as you moan on and on ....

I think you have missed the point . Other gyms don't ask for payment with a distant opening date . You can prattle on confidently about missing a great deal all you like , sounds like a pitch for a pyramid scheme though ;)

I'm not missing the point. I just returned from the UK where I was a member of the GYM GROUP they operated in exactly the same fashion. Pre sale offers that worked for new members. Frankly I've no idea what you're talkin about a pyramid scheme !!! Try counselling that may help you with your anger !! :)

totally agree and for me they have not done their maths and are about 5-10year behind in terms of what people want from a gym now and the ideal gym model.

Could you explain what you mean? What do people want from a gym nowadays and what's the ideal model you're talking about?

I just want a few weights and a shower!

    Hi all,

Just thought I may be of some help to those interested in the new gym in Rathgar. I got a tour of it this morning. As of today it wasn't finished but should be there in the next few days, they do have all the equipment in there and are open for business there's just a few finishing touches being done to the dressing rooms. On a whole the facilities are good. They have separate cardio and weight rooms and a spinning room on the ground floor, with a yoga/pilates room upstairs. Classes arehowever very limited, there will only be spinning and a bootcamp workout scheduled. Yoga and pilates are available at on additional fee.
The prices are as follows. €55 a month by standing order with an additional joining fee of €25, or a once off payment of €570 for 12 months.
Hope this is of some help!

The more I think about the FlyeFit change of opening date the more disingenuous I find it and the more it annoys me.

They are going to be fully 2 months behind schedule, and yet didn't indicate this until last week. To be honest, I seriously struggle to imagine a scenario in which an opening date gets put back by that amount all of a sudden. Barring a roof caving in during renovations or a sudden planning issue, I can't help feeling they knew damn well they were behind schedule for a lot longer than that.

This. People don't seem to realise that stuff like this happens all the time. I'm sure the people behind Flyefit would love for it to open tomorrow but it's not always that simple.

Gyms opening behind schedule probably does happen all the time, but gyms selling memberships with the promise of a specific opening date that then keeps being cancelled doesn't. That said, why would anyone in their right mind hand money to a gym that doesn't actually exist, even if its management has an impressive track record of kind, honest, compassionate and non-deceptive customer relations. The website doesn't even offer people their money back, which speaks volumes.

Suggest you go back and look at the website again dude, there is actually a no risk full money back gaurantee with membership. The've highlighted it in a big yellow box, in the FAQS and membership tcs. If you don't like it when it opens you can get your money back. :)

Because getting money back from a Jackie Skelly business operation is that simple?
Go to the consumer issues forum and type Jackie Skelly and examine your findings.

This is reading like one big shill-fest for FlyFit. Closed so I can go Inspector Gadget on this flyboy.

    See what I did there?

    meh, it's early.
