I never had a butyl tube that would lose air on its own in any considerable way, unless slow leaking after a puncture (fixed by checking in a bucket of water). I check the pressure every 2 weeks and need to top up only occasionally by 10psi or so.

They are mostly Halfords brand and Schwalbes.

    I meant the gear itself?

I have the Gaba and well impressed by it. Wouldn't mind its winter equivalent.

I bought the Alpha for next winter, but with the cool spring/summer weather I used it on Fleche/400 and 600 audax rides. I tend to run warm but on very long days more layers are a good idea late on.

Really impressed. Cheaper winter jackets keep you warm but you can sweat a lot in them; the Alpha is effectively two jackets with a mesh type inner and an outer wind and shower proof outer. Open outer zip on climbs allows sweat to escape and close at top.

Was expecting to only use Nov-March ish but with no layering/layering it is adaptable to lots of conditions especially for long days. Wouldn't expect it to keep out a monsoon but i'd expect to be warm.

Edit: paying for a high end winter jacket to keep you warm in wet Irish winter conditions on long rides without mudguards is like getting a ladder to pick fruit when there is real juicy stuff pickable from the ground! Yes your bike will be ugly but you'll ride it more

If you want as many as 10 tubes, bike-discount.de will be almost as cheap if not cheaper for Conti tubes (depending on the valve length, really), even factoring in shipping: http://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/continental-tube-race-28-s42-64095 come down to €2.99 each, and http://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/continental-tube-race-28-s42-64095 to €3.29 each and shipping is €8 to Ireland - the former end up cheaper, the latter would be maybe €0.85 dearer than the CSS offer, but some people might be happier with Continental tubes.

Just to be clear on this, I always get confused buying tubes. This link is for a standard 25mm tyre on a racing bike with a normal length valve?

    Sorry for stupid question...

That tube will do 20-25c tyres on 700c wheels, and has a 42mm valve, so it will suffice for "standard" height rims. If you zoom in on the second picture, you can see the specifications from the box, or at least that's the basis I'm using!

What's "standard" these days? I'm guessing not the older flat type, but the alloy ones with a rounded, boxy cross-section? (Sorry, I'm not up on the right terminology. I just roll into my FNBS and point and grunt!)

It's handy way of working around Uk only delivery or high international delivery charges. I've got stuff of Castelli cafe using it.

If it fits in the sizes they have that is a proper bargain. Got jacket in sale on another site in March, fantastic jacket for winter.

Summer is only time to buy winter kit...:)
I saw this one earlier and was tempted. Great price.

Which colour do you have by the way?

Got these (jersey + bib shorts) for €23 delivered.

Took 2 weeks to arrive and it seems like genuine gear with good quality chammy. Haven't worn it yet.

yeah of having the arse ripped off you and your gear may survive the cycle home

I thought the rule of this forum was not to endorse fakes..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,415 ✭✭✭✭Trojan

I'm not at all convinced it's fake, the quality is way too high (had proper tags, chammy, zips aren't the cheap quality ones). It's a Russian team so it could be geographic arbitrage. That said I've never ever considered buying team gear before, so I'm comparing it with leisure gear.

I'll take some pics later and you guys will be able to tell from. If you're certain it's fake then I'll take it down. (I've edited my OP pending verification).
