It was filmed in June & July - on the few sunny days we had! And by an Irish company!

I know this cos as an avid watcher of both Masterchef UK and Masterchef Australia plus thinking I was a good cook, I applied for the show but didn't get to the audition stages. I now realise this was for the best cos the 16 that got those lovely aprons are waaaaay better than me!!

I'm not sure about the format though - it's like the new UK version on speed since they are getting rid of people very quickly...I mean 4 on the first proper night was a lot!

P.S. This is my 1st post on here - apologies for the irrelevance of some of my content :)

Yeah its almost as if they made it not knowing whether it would work out so they have an abbreviated version compared to the UK/OZ format.

Is that the oyster-shucking guy? Bit of a whinger alright, he cries very easily.

I want to eat all of the dessert ones, those chocolate lollies in particular! Not a fan of frogs legs, snails and fois gras though

Wonder who will go, they were all ok. Your one that over-salted the fois-gras, at least she didn't fall apart, just sucked it up and got on with things.

Yep for a second she looked like she was about to cry and then she just got on with it.

Fair play. She is v young.

Bridin is really irritating me, she says she's confident but it's pure cockiness! I love the Polish guy he seems like a sweetheart, as does the Cork girl.

Nice to see Labour's new senator John Whelan enjoying the champagne and oysters. True to his Champagne Socialist principles!

Oh, will Richard go? Or Shane? Is there a Shane?

Wow, wasn't expecting that to be honest.

Very gracious in defeat as well.

    Jarek?! Wtf?

Boll*x. Really liked him. Dunno who I'm gonna support now.

Christine and Bridin are very annoying tbh.
Janek seemed keen I would have given christine the flick purely for the annoying factor.

I reckon Richard was kept in purely for the entertainment factor, his dish did look slightly better than Jareks though

Bit unfair that someone gets to just shuck oysters while someone else has to do a beef tartare or a liquid egg.

I wouldn't eat anything except the chocolate lollipops!

Also it was a bit unfair that people had to vote on the canapes considering they weren't even the contestants' recipes!

Catching up late as always, but having watched 90 seconds of it tonight, it dawned on me , this is the same production company as makes the irish apprentice is it not???? Same poses, same way of delivering the voice over, same choice of shots of the judges from behind waiting for the contestants as they roll up in mercs ,same way of saying their lives are on the line lmao. It is the same company no?

Edit: Red vs Blue ...... change it to make 10 canopies to sell 10 and we have the apprentice ireland, lmao even the picking of the teams and the chit chat from the contestants about the show down.... swap the aprons for suits :D

Edit again: Vote with a red or blue poker chip now where have I seen this before :D MC:IE took a nose dive tonight imo

Richard (aka Ginger Whinger) moaned that oysters were too easy, but he was 'too busy' to help his team mates, and served up awful fish, 'ignoring the contents of the box'. Christine was the only one that had to remake her canape and served up awful fish, 'clearly out of her depth'. But Jarek goes??

Are they judging on personalities rather than cooking skills?

There was something very obvious about last nights show. In the cook off at the end the judges excused some poor dishes because it was clear a long way out that jarek was the one for the chop. As soon as he was picked last it was obvious that he'd be the first to go.

But I was annoyed by the judges reactions to dishes that were the same if not worse than jarek's. "it's fine...you're ok"

It annoyed when Richard gave out that oysters were too 'simple', then when doing the dish at the end said he was going to keep it simple!! There's no pleasing him, he seemed like a total idiot when Christine was talking to him. Some incredible talent there though, shane seems nervous but he has great potential. We haven't seen much of that guy who did the lollipops he should be given more airtime

I fully agree because they get judged on the taste of the food, and while execution etc. will play some role in the taste, the main thing is the recipe. The contestants had no say in their canape selection so ultimately this format is unfair. It would be different if they were given a selection of possible canapes and had to chose the ones they want to make.
Also think Jarek wasn't the worst, was sorry top see him go.
Generally I like the format, the last episode in particular, quite polished. Judges still feel too stiff and some of the judge-discussion-amongst-themselves bits in between come across as terribly stilted and scripted.
I still don't feel I can name all the contestants, the show moves on too quickly not giving you a chance to engage with all the participants.

I agree. Some of them are getting a lot of air time, like Bridgeen for instance who didn't come across very well last night, whereas others are hardly seen at all. I feel the judges have their favourites and have their minds made up in advance sometimes about who's going and who's staying instead of judging purely on the dish they are presented with. Felt very sorry for Jarek and hope he is getting lots of well wishes from people.

Gutted to see him go last night, not that I am a big fan but for the fact he simply did not deserve to go purely based on what was shown in the episode.

Going back to my point I made jokingly earlier about it being very apprentice like last night, his being cut stinks of "he's no good for the telly, get him off" just like I feel happens on the other show, where you feel the person going was decided by the production team and not Bill Cullen or the Judges

/removes tin foil conspiracy theory hat :p

Yup. The fact that it was so blatantly obvious that Janek was going out makes it reasonable to believe that this program (this type of program?) is all to do with 'good television' rather than good cooking. It kind of makes me not want to enter next year. I rather suspect this kind of thing goes on in all these reality programs, but maybe they're better at disguising it than these guys are.

In fairness even Reality TV takes on a storyline. The editor of the show knows the decision of the judges and will edit the show to try and convey the direction the vote is going in, the Blue team possible got more air time last night as they lost the task (during the task).

Just getting to watch this now on Sky Plus and my first reaction is OMG it's sooooo staged!! All the posing outside on the steps of the hotel!

And my 2nd reaction is that Richard has a really bad attitude...what a moan and def not a team player!

And my 3rd reaction is that the blues deserved to lose but I don't think that Jarek deserved to go (it should've been Richard)...I did like the fact they did a Mystery Box challenge though :-)
