There's been so much doom and gloom on AH lately that I thought we could be doing with an 'ol thread about the good things we have in our little country.

I think we've a great wee island here. I love the Irish sense of humour and how we're allowed to take the piss out of each other but if a foreigner does it we get the pich forks and torches out. Makes me Lol anyway.

    Okay I'll start.

I love the beautiful coast we have. The Cliffs of Moher never fail to take my breath away.

Okay AH'ers what do y'all like about Ireland?

The potatoes, seriously. Ever had potatoes while abroad? They're horrible. There's a reason we eat so many and other places eat comparatively few, ours are ****ing delish.

Hmmm, I dunno about that- Bertie, Brian Cowen...

One of the best things about Ireland is our low crime rate. Not that you'd know we had such a thing reading the doom and gloom merchants in AH!

The Irish sense of humour, its definitely unique to us as a race. I lived in Germany for a summer and I remember my German friends and I could never quite relate to each other's humour. It made me feel quite homesick at the time.

Speaking of Germany, I'm looking forward to living there temporarily :P.

The movie company that sued a tonne of people for torrenting The Hurt Locker overlooked us. I call that a plus.

    *Social Healthcare
    *Overly generous Welfare system
    *Nobody is dying of hunger
*No regime is forcefully ruling the country
    *Decent but dated education system
    *Average public transport
    *Outgoing and interesting society

    Things could be worse.

    Bad things?
    *We're a shower of ungrateful c*nts

    There's ATMs everywhere!
I was traveling around Europe a few years back and finding an ATM was often a pain in the neck.
Our taxation system is deadly. Everything is sorted for you, no headaches trying to sort out your taxes at the end of the year.
Irish cities are always good crack with musicians and buskers playing late at night. You rarely see that elsewhere.

I think you managed to name everything that isn't great about Ireland apart from the coffee :D

The weather-I love our temperate climate. Sure a bit more sun would be nice but then I'd have to slather on the factor 50 more than I already do on so meh, not worth it :p.

No deadly creatures that want to maim or kill you (not counting the local scobes)

Irish beef and dairy is the best in the world. I missed Irish butter more than anything when I lived abroad.
Our farmhouse cheeses are as good as you find anywhere and our fruit and veg are fantastic. Same with our sausages and black pud.

Best bloodstock industry in the world here.

    Gorgeous lush green countryside.

    The people.

    Rory Gallagher's music.

    League of Ireland football.

    That's about it, really.

No, wait, there's no industrial pollution - I lived in a coal mining and coal-fired industrial region once...cough, cough, cough.
